What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?
Chapter 258: There’s Voices Here
Like seriously! We’re this high up in the air!! Why the heck are you charging through the wall that leads out to empty space?!
Do these Anomalies really just have no sense of self preservation at all?!!
I grabbed the Anomaly’s wrists as it tried to reach out for me, stopping its arms from reaching me before I tossed the entire Anomaly in the direction of the ground.
I floated up in the air as I watched the creature plummet towards the ground, the Anomaly grabbing at the air uselessly before smashing into the pavement with a loud crash, leaving a small crater at the point of impact.
Tsk... What a cunt.
I floated over to the ledge again and threw myself up using my strength, more out of a desire to just finish what I started even though I could just fly myself up the rest of the way.
I landed on the roof of the building and looked around, making sure that the area was clear since the last time, there was also an Anomaly that was standing on the roof.
Seeing that the coast was clear, I went over to the centre of the roof where there was an open area big enough for me to plant the antenna.
I simply placed the rod on the ground and the sides opened up to expand into a tripod before the top extended to allow the rest of the antenna to pop out.
I was still marvelling at how the thing managed to extend itself from just a simple rod when I heard some noises coming from the floor below.
The noises were muffled but they sounded like someone talking which made me freeze up.
There’s survivors?
I didn’t hesitate as I went over to the door and opened it, slightly surprised to see that it was unlocked before I descended down a floor.
This was another apartment building and unlike the first one we went through, the top floor was a complete mess.
It looked like the remnants of a warzone and I could tell that at one point, the stairs that led to the next floor below had been barricaded with furniture but that got torn apart with the remains of said furniture scattered in the stairwell.
The doors leading to the apartments were also mostly busted open with the doors either left swinging on their hinges or just simply laying on the ground in pieces.
Blood spatters and soot caked the walls as the place also seemed to have been set on fire at one point before the fire was put out.
Some of the doors that remained were even barricaded with wooden planks in front of it, which was kind of weird since this would mean whoever barricaded those doors were trying to keep someone or something inside the room... And that is already ignoring the fact that the door swings into the room instead of out into the corridor to begin with.
The voices came from further down the corridor and I pulled out my sword just in case it was some Anomaly that was able to mimic human voices.
Getting closer to the door, I held my sword at my side, checking around the corners of the open doors to make sure the apartments they led to were actually empty before continuing to the last room.
The door was intact for this one though it was left ajar, the murmur of voices coming from inside the room.
I nudged the door open the rest of the way with the tip of my sword, wary of this being a trap.
The voices became louder when the door opened and there was no question that it was the sound of someone speaking around the corner.
That was when I realised the voice was a little garbled like someone was trying to speak through a body of water or something and I could just barely make out what they were saying.
"This... Find us... Come here... This disaster... We are... Fighting..."
I slowly peered around the corner, only to find that the room was completely empty of life.
There was, however, something that looked like those old Ham radio setups with the consoles and dials and a microphone left on top of a table in the centre of the room.
The rest of the room was surprisingly clean, albeit caked with a thin layer of dust from what I assumed meant it has been some time since anyone has walked through here.
Lowering my sword slightly, I entered the room, careful to check the corners to make sure it really was an empty room and not some elaborate trap.
Seeing none, I moved over to the radio and listened in on what I assumed was someone trying to speak through it, fiddling with the dials to see if I could make the transmission clearer.
"We have... Bzzztt... Supplies are... Tssss... Welcome all to... We will not surrender... To all survivors, if you are able to hear this, come and find us. The Gorald Estate, come here to stand together and we shall weather this disaster together! We have other survivors and supplies are abundant! We are not going to let ourselves be run over! Here is where we stand! Together! We are still fighting and we welcome all to join us! We will not surrender!!... To all survivors, if you are able to hear this..."
The voice repeated itself and I realised this was just a message that was being played on a loop and not an actual person that was speaking through the radio.
Gorald Estate... I assume this was a place that was well known by the people around here since that was the only identifying information that was given through the radio.
I’m assuming that our little antenna at the top of the building gave the radio the boost it needed to start receiving this message as well. If I had to guess... This place used to be a survivors’ hideout before it was overrun. Although I’m not exactly sure if this place had been overrun with Anomalies... Or it was by other people.
I suppose I should bring this news back to the others and maybe even try and find these survivors as well.
For now, I decide to leave the radio as it is, especially since I’m not even familiar with how it was working to begin with.
With that in mind, I teleported myself to the building that Dan was supposed to be in charge of, the door opening up to show an empty roof.
I stepped out to see the corpse of the Anomaly I had decapitated still laying there with Dan nowhere to be found.
I guess he was still climbing up the stairs...
Sure enough, when I went to the stairwell, I could hear his footsteps somewhere below while the guy was muttering to himself. Probably cursing me for making him walk up the stairs.
I levitated myself and floated down the stairwell, aiming to meet him halfway.
It only took me several flights down before I found him pulling himself up by the railings, looking exhausted from having climbed up dozens of floors in the meantime.
"You... Cibai... I should have... Just waited downstairs... For you..." He huffed, stopping at the stair landing to sit down on it.
I materialised the door again, making the exit at the roof before opening it for us to step through.
Dan doesn’t move yet, still busy catching his breath.
I grinned and grabbed him by the collar of his armour before dragging him through the door with me, ignoring his shouts of protest while I pulled him along.
I released him on the ground and took the rod from him to plant the antenna, watching as the rod extended to transform itself just like how the first one did.
I was half expecting to hear voices but since we already cleared this building and found nothing like the Ham radio earlier, there was naturally just silence after the antenna extended.
"Please don’t... Tell me we are... Walking back down..." Dan huffed, still exhausted from the climbing.
I ignored his question and decided to tell him about the radio instead.
"I found a radio at my building with some kind of message being played on a loop... I think there are still survivors on this planet."
He instantly sat upright and turned to me, "You’re serious?"
I gave him a nod before turning in the direction of the building that Liliac was in charge of, "We should meet up with Liliac... See if she met any problems as well."
"Yeah... I’m just going to wait here then... You go ahead and... Teleport me there once you’re done," He huffed.
"Right. Sit tight then."
Since this was an unexpected discovery, I decided to fly there instead of running there, taking the risk of being found in favour of getting to Liliac faster.
Hopefully she didn’t face any issues...
