Chapter 520 286: Dragon Witch 2

Jack suddenly sighed. "Then that might not be enough."

He suddenly pulled a pair of sunglasses from his coat, put them on, and ignoring the Witch, pulled the trigger!

The A Level Taboo Object: the Achilles Sunglasses. It was a Taboo Item the Baron had lent him.

It granted immunity to all physical attacks below the Golden Level for nine seconds.

Its only weakness was the user's heel, a vulnerability that almost no one knew about, aside from experienced Westminster Commissioners or specialized Taboo Item collectors.

This was why Jack Caesar Napoleon Hannibal Bismarck Tang dared to launch a surprise attack.

The muzzle flash flickered for only a second before vanishing.

In that one instant, he used up all the Alchemy Bullets the Baron had given him—expensive projectiles produced by Master Bagins, rumored to be able to kill even a Bronze Tier, with casings genuinely inlaid with gold.

The flash from the explosion engulfed the Dragon Witch.

Jack immediately threw his gun down and bolted for the foot of the mountain, ignoring the Dahlia that had shot at him. When it realized its attack had been useless, it bit down on his head, shattering all its teeth in the process.

He quipped as he ran, "Sorry, Miss Witch, but you haven't seen all of a Westminster Commissioner's tricks just yet."

But the moment he finished speaking, a slender, nimble hand plucked the sunglasses from his face.

Once he saw the person's face, he immediately dropped to his knees and groveled. "Spare me, Witch! I'm an asshole."

The Witch pocketed the sunglasses and made Jack stay kneeling to watch what would happen next.

Jack said, "Your Ladyship, I'm a bit rheumatic. Kneeling like this is going to make my legs hurt. Could I sit instead?"

When the Witch ignored him, Jack shifted his rear, settling into a pose uncannily like an old internet meme from the Baron's past life. He wasn't just being a clown, though. His real goal was to make a break for it.

He froze. He felt something pressed against the back of his head. It wasn't hard to imagine it was a gun held by one of the Dahlias—alright, to be honest, it was still a little hard to imagine.

'Move again and you die.' That was the message Jack felt from the touch of the gun's muzzle.

The Witch stared into the darkness of the Abyss below, her gaze as vacant as one stone staring at another.

Her lips parted, and she began softly chanting an ancient Spell.

As she chanted the Spell, the chains on the Talisman Stones began to fall away. The presence within the Abyss seemed to sense the weakening of the Array, and it began to thrash about beneath the thick fog, yanking on the chains.

The chains snapped taut in an instant, the force so immense it seemed to penetrate the mountain rock itself.

One after another, the Talisman Stones either shattered or were dragged into the Abyss. With fewer and fewer stones remaining on the cliff, the seal grew weaker. It was only a matter of time before the Mad Dragon would break free.

Just then, Dragon Descendants—Fourth Generation Species and higher—began to gather below the cliff. They stopped at the boundary marked by the Talisman Stones, pacing and roaring restlessly, seemingly uneasy about what the Witch was about to do.

A furious gale erupted from the Abyss, its energy so immense it felt as if it could blow the entire world away. The Winged Dragons that had been circling in the sky plummeted into the Abyss.

As they fell, Jack saw that the Winged Dragons' sharp beaks were wide open, yet they made no sound. They were like children who, having been beaten, couldn't cry without their parents' permission and could only sob silently.

The sight made his blood run cold. He said, "Your Ladyship, maybe we should call this off. I don't think anything good can come from releasing the Mad Dragon."

"Release it? Is that what you think?" The Witch raised an eyebrow. "How interesting."

Jack said, "Oh, so you're not releasing the Mad Dragon to help the Dragon Eater Association destroy the world?"

Jack instantly changed his tune. "I misunderstood you, Miss Witch! The Baron was right after all. You really are a good person."

"So you're going to seal the Mad Dragon?" he asked cautiously.

"Seal it? You're overthinking things. I was only correcting your assumption about destroying the world. I never said I wasn't going to release the Mad Dragon."

Carmen leaped onto a Talisman Stone that hadn't yet come loose and sat down. "I just don't care about the world being destroyed."

"Then what's your purpose for releasing the Mad Dragon?"

"To take its Reverse Scale, of course."

"So you really are working with the Dragon Eater Association?"

"Since they call themselves my followers, I don't mind being their goddess."

"So when you say you don't want to destroy the world, at the end of the day, you just don't care if it happens."

"Do you care about the lives of people you've never met? I'm a Witch, not a Saint."

"You hear all that, buddy?" Jack said, suddenly tilting his head.

"I heard. Thank you, Jack," a perfectly flat male voice replied from the micro-earpiece in his ear.

Carmen stiffened.

Suddenly, a rain began to fall with a soft patter. It was a red rain, and it struck the rough surface of the mountain rock with the sound of a clear spring.

All the devout Dragon Descendants were drenched by the red rain, taking on a ghastly, blood-red sheen. Yet amidst these crimson figures, a solitary black silhouette was burning fiercely!

Carmen's pupils contracted. "You were talking to him before?"

The newcomer was none other than the Dragon Knight, Baron Constantin.

Jack turned his head to look as well, then said to the Witch, "Like I said, Your Ladyship, times are changing. You haven't seen all of a Westminster Commissioner's tricks."

A gunshot cracked.

Jack's body pitched forward. There was a bloody hole through his head, from the back of his skull to his forehead. Blood gushed from the wound, flowing across the black mountain rock like a meandering red river.

The Dahlia had fired the shot.

The Baron, having just arrived, froze at the sight, apparently at a loss.

The Witch looked at Jack's corpse and said flatly, "Now that he's here, you've served your purpose."

Then she ordered the Dragon Devourer Cultists and Dragon Descendants at the foot of the mountain, "Stop him."

Receiving the order, the groveling Dragon Devourer Cultists tried to block Baron Constantin, but their hands burst apart the moment they touched the Fire enveloping the Dragon Knight.

Carmen glanced at the remaining Talisman Stones around her, then at the unstoppable, flame-wreathed figure at the foot of the mountain, and said nonchalantly:

"Mr. Constantine, you seem to have forgotten where your power comes from."

Baron Constantin said nothing. Clad in flaming Armor, he wielded the Golden Dragon Spear with ferocious power, piercing through any enemy who drew near as easily as a pen tip through paper before incinerating them to ash.

Watching this unfold, Carmen silently quickened her chanting of the final Spell. The Talisman Stones vanished at an accelerated rate, but the Dragon Knight's advance also sped up. More chains were torn apart, and more Cultists were killed by the Dragon Knight.

While chanting the unsealing Spell, Carmen pulled out hundreds of Magic Cards and cast them into the air. The cards landed on the ground and transformed into all sorts of flowers. These flowers were imbued with Life Force; the largest was as tall as a three-story building.

They bared their fangs, tore with their Sharp Claws, and spat fire and ice, trying to help the Cultists and Dragon Attendants block the Dragon Knight's advance. But the Dragon Descendants, who had previously been ordered by the Witch to attack, now prostrated themselves in submission the moment the Dragon Knight brandished his Golden Dragon Spear. The two Third Generation Species among them went even further, performing the Dragon Race's rite of fealty directly to Baron Constantin before turning to help him sweep away the enemies in his path.

But it was useless. They couldn't get anywhere near the Dragon Knight. All of their attacks were either dodged, or—in the case of the poisoned or mysteriously enchanted vines—slowed by the intense heat radiating from him before they could get close. Ultimately, they were incinerated alongside the Dragon Attendants and the Cultists who had Transformed into Dragons.

Carmen finally frowned. There were still many Talisman Stones on the cliff's edge, but at this rate, the Dragon Knight would soon fight his way up from the base of the mountain. The ritual, which was only half-complete, would likely be interrupted.

The Witch stopped her chant, took out her Magic Staff, and recited a Spell, using Magic to transform the entire cliff into a crimson Flower Sea.
