Chapter 475 263: Rekindling an Old Flame?

  • Next Chapter

The unremarkable attendant was, of course, Baron. After dealing with the matter, he quickly slipped into the crowd. He had to find the Dragon Witch and tell her just how dangerous their situation had become.

Baron eventually found KK at the same bar as before. KK, who had changed her clothes and was pretending to be a guest, saw him too. She waved him over and started complaining:

"Forget about not finding the Red Dragon Reverse Scale, I can't even get out of here now. Do you have a plan?

"I might be Silver Tier, but all I really know how to do is grow a few flowers and plants. When it comes to a real fight, I'm not even sure I could beat Silver Lion Wilder."

She said, "Berthelili is temporarily sealed by a Barrier now. We won't be able to escape anytime soon. This is such a pain."

She stirred the drink in her glass with a spoon, looking just like a troubled young girl.

'It's too late to think about getting out now,' Baron thought. The Illusory Cocoon had been used on Kasha earlier, and now he had to wait for its cooldown.

He told the Dragon Witch that he had a way out, but it would take some time. The immediate problem was that they were about to be discovered and surrounded.

But KK said grimly, "Not 'about to be.' It's happening right now."

Baron snapped to attention. He sensed the Knights closing in on their position.

The longer the Chain of the Imitator was used, the longer its cooldown would be. To save time and effort, Baron had decided to keep the face it had created. It now seemed the Knights had memorized that very face.

Because the one leading the group stealthily surrounding them was that same Knight Commander from before.

KK mumbled, "This is all your fault."

Baron said, "What's my fault?"

KK sipped the last of her champagne through a straw. Her cheeks puffed out like a bun, and her long hair fell to one side. It was a lovely sight.

"I changed my clothes and everything, but they still found me. The moment you sat down, they showed up. They must have been following you."

Her little nose twitched, like a cat lapping at water.

KK huffed, "Let me be clear, I'm not getting involved. If these people discover my identity, I'll be swarmed in no time. I have no intention of fighting this many people at once."

Baron retorted, "But you're the legendary Dragon Witch."

"And you're a Dragon Knight!" KK shot back, getting up from her seat to order another drink from the bartender.

She didn't return to the seat across from Baron, because it had been taken by Knight Commander Sad.

Sad sized up Baron, his gaze shifting from the attendant's uniform to his unremarkable face.

"You're Miss Freya's Attendant?"

Baron nodded.

Sad chuckled. "I suspect you're more than a simple Attendant. I saw the move you used to defeat Elder Pence's Attendant. It was quite something. The Knights of Lancelot's Family don't use that style."

Baron remained silent. He couldn't figure out what Sad was thinking, but from the Knights closing in around them, he knew they were preparing to apprehend him.

He glanced to the side and saw KK leaning on the bar, holding her glass and giving him a wink. She really was like a little girl.

Sad saw KK as well. He asked, "You know her?"

Baron nodded. "We just met."

Sad ordered his men, "Invite that lady over as well."

And so, KK was made to sit next to Baron. From her slightly puffed cheeks, it was clear she was sulking.

'I didn't do it on purpose,' Baron thought. 'He already saw us sitting together. If I said I didn't know her, it would have only made him more suspicious.'

Sad said, "Why don't you two tell me how you met, and who you are. You understand, of course. To prevent the Dragon Witch and her followers from infiltrating, all these checks are necessary."

"Whether you're one of the Bloodless, the Old Race, or even a Law Enforcer, you are expected to cooperate," Sad said coldly. "And right now, your identity is merely that of an Attendant, sir."

Baron still said nothing. The more one says, the more one risks a mistake. Besides, his backup had arrived.

The princess of Lancelot's Family, Baron's former fiancée, Freyja Lancelot.

Freyja ordered all the Knight Guards blocking her path to get lost, slammed her hand on Baron's table, and spoke to Sad without a shred of courtesy:

"He is an Attendant of Lancelot's Family. I don't care who you're investigating, you have no right to question an Attendant of my house."

Sad said, "You misunderstand, Miss Freya. I am only acting under orders."

"Under orders?" Freyja sneered. "Whose orders could possibly authorize a mere Knight Commander like you to investigate someone from my Lancelot's Family?"

'Such a sharp tongue. So this is the firepower of a noble lady. I'm impressed,' Baron thought, sucking in a sharp breath.

"Was it Elder Pence?"

"No, of course not!" Sad replied hurriedly.

"Jill?"

"No, not him either." Sad looked down and took a drink to hide his awkwardness.

"Then who else is there?" Freyja's gaze was piercing. "Or is it that you, Knight Commander Sad, believe that Lancelot's Family has no one left and can be bullied as you please?"

Sad said hastily, "I wouldn't dare! You've misunderstood, Miss Freya. I only became suspicious because this Attendant's skills are so extraordinary. But since you're vouching for him, Miss Freya, there's naturally no problem."

With that, Sad rose from his seat, gathered his men, and left.

Only then did Freyja dismiss the Lion-eyed Knights who had been in a standoff with Sad's Griffin Knights. Though arrogant, Freyja was no fool. Only a hot-headed child would jump into a confrontation without careful thought and preparation.

Whether or not they respect you isn't determined by what you say, but by what you show them. That was what Anthony had once taught Freyja.
