Westminster Bank
Chapter 455 253: Change the Red Wine to Coke
Pound's throat tightened. He desperately wanted to ask his sister if she had used her savings for a new Magic Staff, but his cheeks puffed, and ultimately, he said nothing.
"Of course, ma'am. Now that the compensation has been paid, I shall naturally follow your orders."
Hilde smiled and gave a slight bow to the livid Pound and the expressionless Windsor. "I won't disturb your brother and this beautiful lady's time alone any longer."
The young dandies at his side also smiled. Though they ultimately failed to humiliate Pound, they'd still made an easy fifty thousand British Pounds. As Windsor had thought earlier, this was no small sum.
The crowd of onlookers began to disperse, most likely assuming the matter was concluded and that no more drama was forthcoming.
"Stop."
But just then, a girl stepped forward. Her evening gown was inlaid with tiny diamonds, and a portion of her long, golden hair was gathered with a Twin-flower hairband, spilling over her fair, jade-like shoulders. Following behind her was a young man with the sharp bearing of a drawn sword.
"Miss Lancelot," Hilde stopped and gave a bow. "How may I be of service?"
Freya shot Jill a sidelong glance, silencing him before he could speak. Then, with a cold snort, she commanded, "Return the Storage Stone you're holding."
At her words, the guests who had been leaving stopped in their tracks. The vexed Pound, the pensive Windsor, the unremarkable Attendant, and the stunningly beautiful female host all turned their gazes toward Hilde and Freya.
Jill's expression changed, and he was about to apologize to Hilde on Freya's behalf. But after another look from Freya, he could only offer Hilde a wry smile, hoping he would understand the signal in his eyes.
Unfortunately, Hilde didn't see it. He simply frowned and asked in confusion, "Miss Lancelot, are you suggesting… I return the Storage Stone to Mr. Pound?"
He spoke as if seeking confirmation. A few of the young heirs behind him were about to chime in to back him up, but when they saw the Griffin Knight, Jill, standing beside Freya, their mouths hung open for a moment before they decided to let Hilde handle this one himself.
Freya snorted coldly. "Don't play games with me. The clothes on those people behind you aren't worth fifty thousand British Pounds… and if you want me to be blunt, all of your suits combined probably aren't even worth five thousand pounds."
'I'd say that's plenty blunt,' Baron griped to himself.
Jill was even more aghast, sending a Spiritual Power message to Freya, "Freya, what are you saying?"
Though Jill was both powerful and well-connected, he lacked the typical arrogance of a wealthy scion. On the contrary, he believed in leaving others a shred of dignity, unless they offered none in return. He felt that regardless of whether Freya was right or wrong, her words were too direct, completely stripping Hilde of his dignity.
The crowd began to whisper amongst themselves again, clearly curious why the Legitimate Daughter of the Lancelot's Family would suddenly pick a fight with Hilde.
As expected, Hilde and the young heirs beside him narrowed their eyes upon hearing her words. "Miss Lancelot, what is the meaning of this?"
"My meaning is simple," Freya said, her words stunning everyone. "Return the Storage Stone to Miss Windsor. She's a friend of mine. When I happen upon my friend, her brother, and an innocent woman being cheated by a pack of scoundrels, I am naturally going to step in."
Jill's heart sank. He regretted not refusing when Freya had first suggested they come watch the commotion.
"Miss Lancelot, please be careful with your words," someone from the crowd sent a Spiritual Power message to Freya. "There's a Wizard Clan backing Hilde."
Freya sent a Spiritual Power message in retort, "And I have a Knight Clan behind me."
"Is Miss Lancelot saying that I and these people behind me are all scoundrels?" Hilde narrowed his eyes, his voice already laced with anger.
Freya replied, "Not just that. In my eyes, you're also hooligans and bastards, villains and swindlers, mules in suits, gorillas in neckties…"
The guests present finally witnessed just how formidable the Legitimate Daughter of the Lancelot's Family could be. Some of the high-society ladies who prided themselves on their sharp tongues felt that even if they and all their friends ganged up on her, they would still be no match for her.
"They say the Legitimate Daughter of the Lancelot's Family has a willful and unruly personality. Now I've finally witnessed it. Mr. Ji'er, you're a lucky man indeed." Hilde looked at Jill, who glanced away, unable to meet his gaze.
"If you want us to hand over the compensation we rightfully earned, Miss Lancelot, you should at least have a reasonable justification. To insult us like this—aren't you just bullying honest gentlemen?!"
A young dandy behind Hilde spoke up self-righteously, his fragile little heart clearly stung by Freya's sharp sarcasm.
"A reasonable justification?" Freya sneered. "Is the fact that the suits you're wearing were all made by my Lancelot Family's tailor shops reason enough for you?"
Hilde's face instantly darkened. The young dandy's expression froze. The faces of the surrounding crowd were dumbstruck, their expressions priceless.
Freya said, "Flip up your cuffs. Three inches from the edge, you'll find a small rose embroidered in silver thread. That is one of the symbols of the Lancelot Family.
"Here in London City, any suit with a rose embroidered in silver thread on the cuff comes from a tailor under the Lancelot Family."
Before Hilde could stop him, one of the young dandies beside him had already flipped open his cuff. Sure enough, three inches from the edge, there was a Silver Rose embroidered there, no bigger than a fingernail.
