Chapter 447 - 249: I Want to Have a Child with You

  • Next Chapter

"Do you need my help?" Barbara said. "I need to know what you’re planning. Just tell me what you need me to do."

At her words, Baron turned to gaze into Barbara’s eyes. The beautiful woman’s eyes shimmered with a glamorous, ostentatious beauty.

He fell silent for a moment. "Why do you want to help me...? You’re from the Hestia Family, aren’t you? Since you’ve guessed my identity, why not reveal it to your family? After all, I killed your own brother, Roy Hestia."

He couldn’t figure out the famous Inner Side socialite’s true motives, so he could only test the waters.

But the Witch just gave a dazzling, flirtatious smile. "I have no ulterior motive. I simply want to help you. Just like back on the Magic Train—didn’t you risk exposing your own identity for that girl, Vivian?"

"Is that your sense of justice, sir...?" she sighed. "Unfortunately, a woman like me doesn’t have such a sense of justice. I want to help you simply because I’ve taken a fancy to you... As for whether the crimes you’ve committed are real or not, I couldn’t care less."

’She’s taken a fancy to me? Is it because I’m a Dragon Knight? With the Hestia Family’s connection to the Dragon Eater Association, could this Legitimate Daughter of the Hestias also be a Dragon Devourer Cultist, desperate for the blood of a High Tier Dragon Knight?’

Baron said impassively, "Even though I killed your brother, Roy?"

’It was inappropriate to say, but he had to take the gamble. At this close a range, he should be able to instantly subdue this Black Iron Mage.’

Barbara was visibly taken aback, clearly not expecting Baron to ask such a pointed question. In the end, however, she simply smiled.

"Roy died many years ago. What’s occupying his body now is just a madman, deluded by Elder Pence. Besides..."

As Baron processed the crucial information the beautiful woman had given him, Barbara accepted a tall glass of red wine from a nearby Attendant.

"Roy Hestia isn’t dead at all. I saw him once at the Hestia estate. His entire body was wrapped in bandages, just like the Dragon Demon Hunter, Andy. On the exposed parts of his skin, I saw traces of Dragon Scales. I imagine Elder Pence must have performed the [Dragon Spirit Ceremony] on him, using the residual Ancient Dragon Aura on his body to fuse him with the Soul Spirit and flesh of a Dragon Descendant to become a [Dragon Attendant]."

Baron: "You know about the Hestia Family’s relationship with the Dragon Eater Association."

’And she’s leaking such a secret directly to me.’

Barbara: "You must be wondering why I’m willing to disclose this information to you."

Barbara smiled. "When you fall in love with someone, you should give them your all."

’So you’re a Pure Love Warrior.’ Of course, Baron didn’t buy her crap.

’Books say all women are liars, and the more beautiful they are, the better they lie. Especially this woman, a famous socialite of the Inner Side. A lie detector probably couldn’t tell if she was telling the truth. Baron might believe some of what she said, but believing her completely was impossible.’

Baron reminded her tactfully, "You have a husband."

Baron was a Pure Love Warrior himself. He’d seen his college roommate get cheated on by his girlfriend, so he knew how it felt.

"He’s in prison."

"Falling in love with someone else without getting a divorce is utterly scandalous."

"I’ve always been a scandalous woman."

"I’m a criminal."

"A scandalous woman and a criminal are a perfect match. The gossip papers tomorrow could run the headline: *Famous Inner Side Lawbreaker Elopes with Renowned Inner Side Socialite*." Barbara smiled, holding her glass of red wine.

This smile was different. Her previous smiles—dazzling and ostentatious as lanterns and jewels—were smiles of charity. When men stared at her stunning figure, her smile was like that of a noblewoman, decked in gold and silver, tossing fifty pence to a beggar on the street.

But now, before Baron, her smile was cheerful and sly, like a little girl who’d done something naughty and didn’t dare say a word, only stealing guilty glances at you.

Baron was stunned for only a moment before his guard went up. He sent a cold message using his Spiritual Power: "But I don’t want to be a criminal, Miss Hestia."

Barbara: "Which is why I can help you."

"But you’re from the Hestia Family."

"But I am also a wife of the Petrel Family," Barbara said. "I know what you’re worried about... but I have nothing to do with the Dragon Eater Association, and neither does Jill. He doesn’t even know about the connection between the Dragon Eater Association and the Hestia Family."

Baron shook his head. Barbara said, "Is it because of Miss Freya? But she was the one who broke your engagement first."

"No," Baron said. "This has nothing to do with Freya... Miss Hestia, you’re a good person."

The "good person" card meant the same thing in any country, in any region.

"Then what can I do to make you trust me? After all, in your eyes, I’m the Legitimate Daughter of an enemy family, the Inner Side’s notorious ’Old Blood bitch’... not a word I say can be trusted."

She laughed self-deprecatingly and was about to drink the red wine in her glass when she heard the man say, "Don’t drink that wine."

She paused, her glass halfway to her lips. She looked at the unremarkable man, her eyes as deep as the sea, demanding an explanation.

’This woman’s eyes really could talk.’

Baron said, "Do you know why this auction was organized?"

"The information I received was that it was to trap the Dragon Witch. Or maybe not... They moved the auction up, so perhaps something unexpected happened. Are you saying the Dragon Eater Association tampered with this wine?" Barbara placed her wine glass back onto the tray of a passing attendant.
