Chapter 444 - 247: The Rich Sure Know How to Play (2)

Freya’s expression was hard to describe, carrying a sense of helplessness:

"The Lion Eye Knight Order is cracking down on the personal conduct of the Knights stationed at Traitor’s Cliff. They just happened to walk right into it when they went back and are getting chewed out."

Baron: "..."

’What a hassle... Still, this indirectly proves that Traitor’s Cliff hasn’t been damaged or attacked, at least for now... Could it be that the Dragon Eater Association has really given up on their plan to break the Mad Dragon Seal today? Then what’s the deal with all this red wine at the auction?’

Unless... another possibility flashed through his mind.

’Unless the Dragon Eater Association isn’t the one who put the Blood Race Blood in this red wine? Only a corresponding member of the Blood Race can control Blood Race Blood. That person must be hidden here in the auction house, I just don’t know what role they’re playing.’

Thinking of the Blood Race Blood, Baron could feel a power within him slowly growing, like magma churning in a volcano about to erupt.

He could barely suppress his Blood Faction promotion ceremony anymore; it would begin in two hours at most.

As everyone knew, no professional promotion ceremony was ever easy. They were hailed as events of both risk and opportunity. Success was, of course, a joyous occasion. Failure, on the other hand...

Although Baron did intend to advance to the Bronze Tier, he certainly hadn’t planned on completing his promotion here. What was the difference between this and dropping your pants in Sichuan and Shu to announce you were about to fart?

’I feel like a piece of shit. Even if you don’t go looking for dumb luck, dumb luck will come looking for you.’

Baron sighed internally. He decided not to dwell on these matters any longer. The auction was about to end, and he had to seize the opportunity to find Vivian before that Lady Hat returned to her private suite.

So, as the female host on stage introduced the last few items after the Red Dragon Reverse Scale, Baron, after much deliberation, finally resolved to tell Miss Eldest about the Dragon Eater Association.

Although this might drag her into danger as well, as things stood, the only person here who might believe him was likely his former childhood friend.

He said, "Miss Eldest, I have something very important to discuss with you."

Miss Eldest sneered, sending a Spiritual Power transmission: "Miss Eldest? It seems you really see yourself as a dog of Lancelot’s Family. I have no intention of discussing things with a dog. Have Miss Freya behind you do it."

Baron was a bit unsure of the hidden meaning in her words. After a moment’s thought, he tried, "Miss Beowulf?"

Miss Eldest was noncommittal.

Seeing that Miss Eldest had no objection, Baron boldly told her everything he had heard at the Monastery.

After hearing Baron out, Miss Eldest narrowed her eyes. "Good thing you finally told me."

A chill went down Baron’s spine. "What would have happened if I hadn’t?"

"If you hadn’t?" Isabella shot a provocative smile at Freya, who was grinding her teeth. "I might not have a childhood friend anymore."

"We’re all friends, all friends," Baron said, sweating a little.

Isabella transmitted via Spiritual Power, "So your current plan is to use the Dragon Eater Association’s attack as cover to kill Elder Pence? And at the same time, you’ll tip off the London Tower and have them guard Traitor’s Cliff?"

Baron wanted to say, ’There’s more. I actually have another objective: to find the Dragon Witch you’re ambushing. I need to tell her this auction is a trap for her. And why do I want to help her? Because our hearts are connected...’

But considering Isabella’s way of doing things, Baron figured that if he said that, not only would she not help him, she might even chop him into mincemeat.

Isabella said, "Actually, just as you were speaking, my Servant Demon detected some unusual activity in the Dracul Mountain Range."

"Unusual activity?" Baron’s interest was instantly piqued. ’Could it be that the Dragon Eater Association is starting to make its move?’

Isabella said, "I can’t confirm, but I’ve had Lucy use the Astrology she learned in the East to divine the fortune of this event."

"That would be called ’divination,’ I believe," Baron corrected her.

"So, why can you speak Chinese? And so fluently? I don’t recall you ever mentioning this."

Isabella looked at Baron. Back in the Dracul Mountain Range, it was because Baron had suddenly spoken Chinese that she had momentarily suspected her own judgment was wrong.

Baron, of course, knew he couldn’t expose his identity as Zhou Yike, but being vague would only make Miss Eldest suspicious. So, he said:

"I don’t really know how to explain it. I think maybe I haven’t forgotten everything from my past life. Anyway, I watched a few Hong Kong movies and read a few Chinese books, and I just sort of picked it up."

Isabella stared at Baron silently for a while. Only when the female host on stage announced the final item of the day’s auction did she send another Spiritual Power transmission:

"You do have a talent for it. But I advise you not to get mixed up with the Legitimate Daughter of Lancelot’s Family. She’s not a trustworthy woman. Sooner or later, she’ll make a complete mess of your plans."

’It’s not like I really have a plan anyway...’ Baron thought.

Just then, Taoist Nun Lucy, who had been sitting silently with her eyes closed, suddenly opened them. She looked at Isabella and seemed to say a few words via Spiritual Power transmission.

Isabella’s willow-like brows furrowed slightly. Then she told Baron, "Lucy says everyone present tonight will face a bloody disaster."

’A bloody disaster for everyone?’

Baron felt that things had just gotten serious. It seemed the Dragon Eater Association was definitely plotting something behind the scenes that he hadn’t yet discovered... He then remembered he had the Illusory Cocoon. Escaping wouldn’t be a problem... but he was afraid that if he did, the Dragon Eater Association’s plan would succeed.

He suddenly sensed something. Closing his eyes, he began to meditate until his chaotic thoughts cleared, and he immediately noticed a crucial point he had subconsciously overlooked before.

He then told this point to Isabella. After listening, she picked up her wine glass and examined it:

"Are you saying there’s a problem with the red wine we’re drinking—that it contains the blood of the Blood Race, and this blood will subconsciously affect our judgment?"

Baron nodded. He had originally wanted to tell Isabella, but since she had already drunk the wine, he hadn’t bothered to warn her... Thinking back now, perhaps that was the so-called will of the Blood Race interfering with his cognition and judgment.

Although Baron hadn’t drunk a large dose of the wine, his nature as a Blood Demon Hunter meant he absorbed it far more thoroughly than an ordinary person.

Isabella narrowed her eyes. "Then how did you realize you weren’t being affected?"

’Because I’ve already been affected. All that’s left now is the progress bar.’ Baron inwardly complained as he felt the Blood Faction’s Spiritual Power continuing to grow slowly within him.

At the same time, a cold dread washed over him. The will of the Blood Race could subtly alter his cognition with just a single drop of tainted wine. Even with the Shepherdess’s help in the dream, he had still fallen for it after he came out.

If he hadn’t strengthened his Mental Power with the help of the Big-Eyed Monster under the starry sky, he might not have been able to notice this problem with himself at all.

’It seems the Tier of this Blood Race member is not to be underestimated...’ Baron’s heart sank.

First the Dragon Eater Association, then the Blood Race, and now the Red Dragon Scale and the Mad Dragon at Traitor’s Cliff... His day was turning out to be not much different from his past life as a high school student, waking up at five and sleeping at eleven.

Just then, as the female host on stage struck the gavel for the third time, the auction—a ploy to capture the Dragon Witch—came to an end.

But from beginning to end, Baron never sensed the Dragon Witch.

When the female host left the stage, Baron thought the guests would begin to leave in an orderly fashion. He prepared to use the opportunity to blend into the crowd and find Vivian.

But just then, the melodious sound of an orchestra filled the auction hall. It turned out that after the auction, there was a free-for-all... Bah, I mean, a salon ball.

All he could say was that these rich people really knew how to have fun.
