Westminster Bank
Chapter 439 - 245: Out of Moves
Jiang Ge let out a cold snort, pleased with himself for winning this silent battle.
The cost might be steep, but thankfully, the Holy Cross Association covered his room and board. Once word of this righteous deed—spending his own fortune to outbid the Holy Mechanism and win the Angel—got back, he would surely receive a new Faith Baptism. Then, he might finally break through to the Silver rank he’d been stuck at for so many years.
He immediately urged the auctioneer on stage to bring down the gavel.
The girl in the cage suddenly began to cry. She hugged her knees tightly, burying her head. As her giant wings wrapped around her, they stirred a breeze that brushed a cool chill across the faces of the guests in the front row. They couldn’t help but sigh internally, ’So holy, so beautiful. Truly worthy of the name Perfect Defilement.’
The auctioneer snapped out of her daze and nodded, but still followed procedure, asking the crowd:
"Do I have any bids higher than this gentleman’s offer...?"
She was only halfway through the sentence when someone spoke up, their very first words killing the competition instantly.
"One hundred million."
Jiang Ge’s expression froze. He thought he must have misheard. He instinctively glanced at the Bronze Saint Elvin beside him. Elvin threw up his hands in a classic LeBron-esque shrug... or, well, he just threw up his hands. Clearly, this new bid had nothing to do with him.
The other guests searched for the bidder, but couldn’t find them. The voice was like a flash of lightning in the clouds—gone in an instant.
Yet the voice still echoed clearly in their ears. If they remembered correctly, was it... one hundred million?
A twenty-million jump from eighty million... Which family was that rich?
They looked left and right but still couldn’t find the speaker.
"I don’t like to repeat myself. One hundred million British Pounds. I am buying this girl."
The voice rang out again, a clear and cold female voice. It instinctively brought to mind a graceful and noble lady, elegant and inviolable.
Hearing the voice again, Jiang Ge’s expression became as contorted as a marmot spotting a predator, a furious question ready to erupt from his throat.
This time, the other guests heard it clearly.
All eyes turned to the bidder—a lady in a white hat. She held her bidding paddle in one hand and a glass of red wine in the other. The wine swirled in the glass, the reflections off its surface making everyone’s head spin.
Her nonchalant demeanor suggested that the one hundred million on her paddle was of far less concern to her than the wine in her glass. Although no one could see her face beneath the brim of her hat, her curvaceous figure led every guest in the room to infer that she must be stunningly beautiful.
"One hundred million. Full payment, in person. Bring her to my private suite." The lady in the white hat spoke coolly. "And I expect your staff to dress her in something beautiful beforehand. I don’t wish to lay my eyes on anything that might offend my tastes."
The entire hall fell silent. You could have heard a pin drop.
The normally composed Jiang Ge stared, his eyes wide. Elvin, on the other hand, laughed under his breath. "One hundred million British Pounds... Sometimes I really do envy the rich. That’s probably more than the annual tax revenue of a small African nation. It seems, Mr. Jiang Ge, that the Holy Cross Association’s audience with Jesus Christ has been canceled."
A stir went through the guests.
They hadn’t misheard, had they? One hundred million? One hundred million British Pounds, just like that? That was enough money to buy dozens of terraced office buildings in Central London back in 1987! Not even money launderers were this brazen, were they?
"Is it someone from the Frederick Clan? Only the Golden Clan could probably afford a sum of this magnitude."
"Not necessarily. It could be one of the other Old Blood Clans from Europe. Or, it could even be someone from the East. Those folks from the East are all ridiculously rich..."
"You have a point, but just from her silhouette, I’d say that even if she is from an Old Blood Clan or the Law Enforcement Organization, she must be from a direct lineage or hold a high-ranking position."
The guests murmured among themselves.
At that moment, the High Priest on stage seemed to finally react. He shot a look at the people around him, and an auction staffer immediately went forward to verify the funds. The lady in the white hat casually tossed them a Storage Stone.
The Attendant verified that the Stone Holding Ring indeed contained gold worth one hundred million British Pounds. His demeanor toward the lady in the white hat became even more respectful. After all, she was wearing several other necklaces and rings embedded with Storage Stones, and he could see that the ring she had tossed him was just one of the smaller ones.
A single, casually tossed Storage Stone held gold worth one hundred million British Pounds. The Attendant couldn’t even begin to imagine how much gold, or other treasures of equivalent value, her other Storage Stones contained.
’Could she be from the direct lineage of the Golden Clan, the Fredericks? But the Frederick Clan explicitly stated they wouldn’t attend this auction... I still can’t figure out this woman’s identity or background. I can’t even see her face.’
The Attendant bowed. "As you command."
The lady in the white hat produced a key card, stood up, and casually pointed toward Vivian in the cage on stage. "Take her to my suite."
With that, she glided from the venue under the gaze of the entire audience, her movements alluring.
"You can tell from her figure alone that she’s a stunning woman," Gold remarked.
"I doubt she’s better than me," Kesha snorted beside him.
Women are always hostile toward other women they perceive as a threat to their own beauty.
"And yet," Gold said, easily shifting the topic to the plain-looking Baron, "Miss Lancelot’s own Attendant here hasn’t taken his eyes off that lady since she appeared. I’d say that proves my point, wouldn’t you?"
