Chapter 1299: Chapter 1299 - Taming the Old World - Light Dragons - 3

Having extra time on the clock only mattered if the six of them could pull off something nobody in the kingdom’s history had ever managed: executing the hardest dragon in the world to kill in record time.

"Right then," Sirius said, rolling his shoulders as he triggered his double fusion, the dense, pitch-black aura of the Shadow Ring Liu had given him swirling around his claws like liquid night. "What is the plan for killing a dragon that refuses to stay wounded?"

Ren smiled, feeling the heavy, golden pulse of the castle’s dragon energy drumming against his ribs as the battle plan clicked into place in his mind.

"The same plan we already used," Ren said.

Ren’s opening move relied on a, highly unconventional for him, double fusion.

Instead of triggering the colossal three-way transformation that rivaled the guardians in sheer power, he opted for a much smaller scale. He merged his Hydra and his Mantis, forming a still big, two-headed flying Hydra encased in thick chitinous plating.

While it was large by standard metrics, it was nowhere near the size of his ultimate combat form.

Yet he had no intention of sustaining the shape for a prolonged dogfight. It served a single, highly specific logistical purpose: providing two beasts with enough aerial lift and physical grip strength to carry his Wolverine, which Ren summoned a split second later.

The Wolverine held something crucial inside. Ren had intentionally hoarded a big payload at the end of their previous campaign, packing it into the spatial void of the beast’s stomach specifically for this exact encounter.

But before they could deploy the trap, they had a very angry guardian they needed to force to stay put for a while.

"It has already sensed us," Ren warned his squad, his heightened mana perception easily tracking the massive shift in its surrounding ethereal currents, and the internal ones. "It is charging a concentrated breath attack. The output is a beam of pure light, hovering right around the same destructive yield as my three-way Hydra blast. If that beam hits us directly, it will wipe us off the sky. I need the four of you to lock down the vanguard and contain the blast with your dual fusions. Liora, you hold your position right here next to me."

So Liu, Sirius, Luna, and Larissa moved without hesitation.

The four tamers engaged their deepest double fusions and fanned out, forming a living barricade to intercept the dragon’s assault. They synchronized their respective elements, weaving a massive defensive front of combined light and darkness.

Liu anchored dark energy with his Blood Wendigo, while Sirius unleashed his Black Tiger dual spiral beam, its innate shadows heavily amplified by the sovereign ring on his finger. Beside them, Luna deployed her Equilibrium Alphyn own spiral beam, and Larissa projected the storm breath of ice and light crystals of her Mineral Lynx.

It was a clash of mirrored elements; light met light, while the swirling shadows and ice absorbed and slowed the dangerous overflow. The four Tamers, fully synchronized with their beasts and fueled by the raw dragon energy humming in their veins, held a solid wall against the powerful beam the guardian unleashed.

The Light Dragon had fired, and the Vanguard had met the strike head-on.

The sheer impact of the collision shook the air and rattled their bones, yet the defensive line did not break. Instead of merely surviving the exchange, the four commanders were actively winning the tug-of-war, successfully buying Ren the precious seconds his strategy demanded.

????

While his team contained and even pushed back the guardian’s fury, Ren gave the signal to his Wolverine.

He ordered the beast to regurgitate the payload it had been storing inside eighty percent of its full capacity of its internal spatial pocket.

The Wolverine unhinged its jaws, and a literal black swamp began to pour from its throat. It was the exact same heavy, pitch-black water that Selphira, Larissa, and Ren had painstakingly cooled and contained up in the northern territory after the Shadow Dragon’s inferno spiraled out of control.

Ren had refused to let that massive mana-chemical fire expand and consume the entire northern shadow zone. Instead, he had cooled the burning sludge, carved a deep quarantine trench far away from the peak to prevent a massive ecological disaster, and siphoned a massive volume of the unburned fluid directly into the Wolverine’s stomach.

He had recognized the tactical value of the substance immediately...

This heavy water was a viscous, volatile fuel that behaved strongly once heated enough. It was the very same accelerant that had ignited under the heat of Liora’s spiritual fire and turned its own creator into a screaming torch.

He had gathered enough of the sludge to completely coat the immediate perimeter of the Light Guardian, and obviously the Guardian itself.

It was a devastating weapon, one that had proven its terrifying efficiency just one day ago. Clutched firmly in the reinforced claws of the two-headed flying fusions, the Wolverine was hauled directly over the Light Guardian’s position. From that perfect aerial vantage point, the beast unleashed a massive waterfall of black sludge straight down onto the ancient creature.

The dark swamp crashed over the pristine white dragon, completely smothering it in thick, heavy sludge.

The viscous substance clung stubbornly to the glowing scales, seeping deep into the armored crevices and joints of the massive body. The sheer elemental friction of concentrated shadow meeting pure light caused the black water to immediately react like a highly aggressive acid, sizzling and eating away at the holy aura.

But Ren had no intention of simply letting the opposing elements melt each other slowly.

"Liora!" Ren shouted over the hiss of the acidic-like reaction. "Ignite the fuel!"

Liora was already primed and waiting for the call. Channeling her energy into her spiritual fire Bashe, she unleashed a torrent of blue and purple flames directly into the falling cascade of black water, instantly sparking the volatile chemical coating the guardian.

Ren seamlessly fed his own magic into the chain reaction to guarantee maximum destruction. Utilizing his supreme elemental control, he drastically spiked the ambient temperature; he conjured a localized gale to feed oxygen to the flames, and then drove a concentrated bolt of lightning straight into the heart of the soaked mass to push the fuel far past its flashpoint.

Between Liora’s searing spiritual fire and Ren’s calculated elemental pressure, the heavy water coating the Light Dragon reached critical mass.

The trap erupted into a raging inferno.
