We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 458: My Name Is Tushan Jingci, You Had Better Remember It

Without either of them fully realizing it, two months had passed.

During those two months, Xiao Mo opened his eyes every single day to the same routine of hauling firewood and tending the fires.

As for the three tasks the Book of a Hundred Lives had described, Xiao Mo had not a single clue where to begin.

After all, at his current age, where he could barely lift a chicken, just as Master Niu had said, one step outside the Mount Tu residence could get him turned into a vegetable dish. What was there to speak of beyond simply surviving?

Xiao Mo felt that what he could realistically do for now was to stay in the Mount Tu residence, take proper care of his body, and get through each day as it came and within the Mount Tu residence, although Xiao Mo was exhausted to his bones every single day, he was at least able to eat his fill.

In a Demon Realm where humans were treated as less than dogs, being able to eat three full meals a day was, for most ordinary people, an outright luxury.

After two months of eating properly, Xiao Mo had put on a good deal of weight, and was considerably stronger than before.

As for sleeping in the firewood room at night, it was a bit cold, but his bed was laid across the woodpile, and the blanket was reasonably warm.

On top of that, Master Niu, for all his rough manner, was not entirely unkind, and had hinted to Xiao Mo that if he was cold, he could light a fire for himself.

Master Niu would turn a blind eye to it.

Beyond his daily work, whenever Xiao Mo had a spare moment, he would sit together with some of the demon folk in the kitchen courtyard and listen to them talk.

Apart from hearing things like, "That cat demon Dongfeng's figure is really something else. If you got close to her, you'd snap your own hips," and "That cow demon that came to the residence lately, her chest looks like two mountains, just looking at her makes a fellow hungry!" and "Master Niu passed by Steward Xiong's courtyard and swiped two of Old Lady Xiong's belly-band vests," along with other coarse talk and gossip of that sort,

Xiao Mo also pieced together a general understanding of his surroundings from the bits and pieces he overheard.

The city he was in was called Immortal Fox City.

Immortal Fox City was part of the Celestial Demon Kingdom. However, compared to other cities within the Celestial Demon Kingdom, Immortal Fox City was somewhat unusual.

Although the Celestial Demon Kingdom would dispatch a great demon to administer it, in truth the real master of Immortal Fox City had never been that Jade Simplicity realm great demon.

It was the Lady of Mount Tu, who resided within the Mount Tu residence.

Without the Lady of Mount Tu's blessing, the City Lord of Immortal Fox City could do nothing.

But the Lady of Mount Tu was a reserved and understated person, well-read and reasonable, and generally did not interfere with the affairs of the city. Both the Celestial Demon Kingdom and every successive City Lord of Immortal Fox City held the Lady of Mount Tu in the highest regard, and none of them dared act rashly.

The Lady of Mount Tu had one daughter, who was the Young Miss of the Mount Tu residence.

Xiao Mo was fairly certain that this was the very same little girl he had encountered before.

This Young Miss was by nature fond of mischief, and frequently enjoyed running about the courtyard.

When Xiao Mo had been warned that he must not touch so much as a single hair on the Young Miss's head, he had initially assumed it was because of his low status as a human.

It turned out that every male creature in the entire residence was subject to the same rule.

Any male being whatsoever was forbidden from touching even one strand of the Young Miss's hair.

As for the reason, no one knew.

Another half-month passed.

One evening, after a day's work as usual, Xiao Mo rinsed off with cold water in the courtyard and returned to the firewood room to rest.

Since summer had arrived and Xiao Mo's constitution had gradually grown stronger, he no longer needed to light a fire for warmth.

Xiao Mo looked out at the stars beyond the window, listening to the cicadas singing in the courtyard, and tired from a full day's work, drifted off to sleep very quickly but just as Xiao Mo was deep in sleep, the door to the firewood room was quietly pushed open a crack.

A small, adorable head peeked in through the gap.

The fox-eared little girl looked left and right, and spotted a child about her own age lying on the woodpile.

After hesitating for a brief moment, the little girl tiptoed into the firewood room and gently pulled the door shut behind her.

"Young Miss..."

"Where are you, Young Miss..."

"Young Miss, the night is deep now. Please stop playing and come out..."

"Young Miss..."

Before long, the sound of voices calling out drifted into the firewood room where Xiao Mo was sleeping.

Xiao Mo's eyes blinked open in a groggy haze.

Just as Xiao Mo was still trying to figure out what was happening, he turned his head, and there before him was a small girl, pink-cheeked and delicate as carved jade, crouched beneath the tall stacked woodpile.

In the moonlight, the fox-eared little girl's large, bright eyes shimmered with the clear silver of the moon.

A snow-white fox tail peeked out from beneath the hem of the little girl's skirt and swayed lightly in the air.

Seeing that the small boy inside had woken up, the little girl's expression carried a hint of nervousness but once she got a clear look at Xiao Mo's face and recognized him, the fox-eared girl's anxiety instantly dissolved. Her eyes lit up with a bright glow.

"BANG!"

Before Xiao Mo could say a single word to the fox-eared little girl, the door was pushed open.

The fox-eared little girl immediately lowered her head, hugged her knees tightly to her chest, wrapped her tail around her own body, and used the Nine-Tailed Celestial Fox's innate divine ability to conceal her presence entirely.

"Human brat, have you seen the Young Miss anywhere? Or heard anything unusual?" Master Niu asked, panting from the exertion of running around.

Xiao Mo's eyes slid quietly toward the corner to one side.

The little "fur ball" popped a head out and shook it vigorously.

"No, Master Niu." Xiao Mo answered. "I heard what sounded like people calling for the Young Miss outside. Has something happened?"

"Nothing too serious, it is just that the Young Miss has gone off and snuck away somewhere to play again." Master Niu let out a sigh, his tone carrying obvious exasperation. "You just stay here and keep watch over this place. No sleeping tonight. If anything stirs, come and tell me at once. Understood?"

Master Niu did not wait for Xiao Mo to respond, and continued running off ahead.

Once Master Niu was far enough away, Xiao Mo closed the firewood room door and walked over to stand before the fox-eared little girl.

The fox-eared little girl unwound herself from her tightly curled "fur ball" state, let out a long, fragrant breath, patted her small chest, looked at the little boy before her, and said with a smile,

"I, I remember you. You are the human servant from before, the one called... Xiao... Xiao..."

"Xiao Mo. Xiao with the grass radical, Mo as in ink." Xiao Mo answered with a smile.

"Right, right, you are called Xiao Mo." The fox-eared little girl gave a quick nod. The small tail behind her swayed back and forth in the air, as though waving a greeting at Xiao Mo. "Xiao Mo, thank you for not giving me away."

"Young Miss is too kind." Xiao Mo shook his head. "But it is so late. What is Young Miss..."

"Hmph!" The fox-eared little girl placed both hands on her hips, lifted her small chin, and looked rather indignant. "Mother always refuses to let me go outside the residence to play. Tonight I am sneaking out at least once!"

"Oh, and do you want to sneak out with me? I hear it is so much fun out there!" The fox-eared little girl invited him cheerfully.

"I will give that a pass, Young Miss. I still need to get up early tomorrow morning to haul firewood, tend the fire, and help with the cooking." Xiao Mo politely declined.

In Xiao Mo's view, this fox-eared little girl had absolutely no chance of slipping out undetected and even if she were caught, at worst she would receive a scolding from the Lady of Mount Tu.

If he went sneaking out with her, on the other hand, he would likely not make it back with his life.

"All right then..." The fox-eared little girl lowered her small head with a trace of disappointment, but quickly rallied her spirits again. "Then Xiao Mo, I am going out to play. When I come back, I will tell you all about the interesting things I saw outside!"

"Of course, Young Miss." Xiao Mo said with a smile.

"I am off!"

The fox-eared little girl ran happily out of the firewood room but before long, the fox-eared little girl came running back.

"Young Miss?" Xiao Mo asked, puzzled.

"I forgot. I forgot to tell you my name."

The little girl caught her breath, her fox ears perking up and down.

"My name is Tushan Jingci."

"Tushan."

"Jingci."

"You had better remember it."
