Chapter 715: A Dynasty That Is Not Mourned

Yindir and IIdar fought each other and it is shocking for some people.

The battle between lldar and Yindir happens during Aeryon attack to the west.

lldar seemingly surrender to Yindir after hearing Belarion managed to penetrate the forces of Ultar.

And then when the news of Aeryon victory arrive on Nurzgerom, the chief of Nurzgerom send his daughter to marry the Yindir chief sons and submitted under Yindir.

One might think why did this tribes suddenly become so easy to talk to?

Surrendering one after the other.

And it is not like they surrender to a superior tribe. Yindir was the same as them. And not only that, Yindir was like any ally to them

Yes, there is some bad blood here and there, personal feud that is unresolved but mostly these tribe are very harmonious when it is time for winter, providing timely help.

Yet, Yindir was not charged with curses and instead the two tribes one after the other, all submitted to Yindir.

One should at least cursed Yindir as unfaithful or a traitor but none such accusation is even uttered

Aeryon when he fought and conquer so many tribes before, still have to pass a duel before gaining the tribes admission of surrender.

To the warriors of the Steppe, it seems like an insult if they did not even fight before surrendering.

But now, left and right tribes and chiefs are surrendering.

Because things are different now.

Before, all of them could do things like this because there is no overlord power.

And even if there is, such overlord did not last long.

The reason why is because these overlord usually stops at one point. And when they stop, that is when they are besieged on all sides.

But Aeryon and Dama did thing that the overlords did not do. The situation is different and all of the chief could already see the new trend of the world

They all noticed it during Aeryon expedition to the west, he had subdued the Cha Ner Ul Alliance.

But he did not dismantle them

Abd Chagai tribe have speaking power.

A power to make the Khan listen.

The reasons.....is simply because if Aeryon was stubborn, the three tribes would not yield an inch. And then Aeryon would be stuck in the west.

Stop when one is ahead is a sign of wisdom

But the small tribe also understood one thing.

They did not wish that they have the same privileges like those Cha Ner Ul tribe’s member.

Even they knew their own limitation.

There would surely be a difference between those who followed the Khan when he was down and those who followed him after he prospers.

So, even the most shameless among the chief would not harbour such fantasy

But at least they wanted their voices to be heard and to have their legacies and their descendant survives.

So, what would small tribes would do in such situation?

There is no other way than to band together.

The tribes are not always independent of each other. It is only a recent development. The more advanced their tribe became, the more they possess a certain identity.

It is not quite like the national identity of the future, where nationalism is just another way of saying that they belong to the same tribe.

But there is a consciousness. That these tribes are different from the other.

Ironically enough, the one spurring this emergence of identity is the empires around the Steppe.

The thing about identity is...it is a way of labelling people. It is a way of uniting people....and at the same time it is also a way of dividing people

Us...and them. In the future...no, even in the past, the common people of certain nation bears more resemblance to the common people of other nations then they have with their rulers

Rulers knows this. The one thing they don’t want the ruled to understand is that the war has always been about those who is on the top and those who is below.

Whether a war is won or lost, the common people is the one that would always suffer. In the past, they use the name of tribes, in the future, they use the name of nations.

What is used to unite them could be used to divide them and what is used to make them free, could be made to enslave them

If there is anyone who understand the insidious method of these empires it would be wise men like Mayeux, Katakura and Aeryon.

Identity could be used as a weapon and it has always been used as a weapon by the rulers.

whether it be one own rulers or other rulers.

When one develop identity, one developed independence on what they considered not the same as their identity or label

And independence sound good and all, but three arrow stuck together is hard to break, but one Loen arrow is easy to break.

Civilization could only thrive and survive when they could compromise. Compromise and work together. And to work together one must unite.

Whether under one man, under one religion, under one tribe, under one nation or an idea.

United by these things, civilization could thrive and could survive. But once you begin labelling people, begin dividing, black, white, yellow, untouchables, lowly, nobles there would be friction

And as long as the people below believe in it that system could work for quite some time. But when it no longer works, then it would be a reckoning.

Then the ruling class would find another way to divide people again ℯ

And this is the method that the empire around the Steppe uses against the tribes of the Steppe even without realizing it.

They of course did not call it labelling and dividing. Instead, it is more of sowing discord. But the essence of the method is the same

The empire method is to label these tribes

Those that lives in the west, let’s call them the western tribe and let their different circumstances forget their commonalities and magnified their difference

These one on the south, let’s call them as the southern tribes.

So on and so forth

And then even among the western or southern tribes, they labelled themselves with different names.

Utgard, Khagai, Chagai, Nergui, Ultar, all seeking independence from each other, all fighting each other and when they are fighting each other, these tribes would not fight against them

Identity is then used to divide people.

It is also used against the common people by one own ruler.

Give these people some identities and let them fight each other. And when they fight each other, the minister, kings and emperors, those who sit at the top could comfortingly become the one who profited from these people fighting each other.

They fight each other and they would not band together.

What all rulers that oppress the people fear the most is that the people below them wake up under the illusion and banded together to fight against them

Identity politics then is mixed with the bread and circuses

Identity politics is the easiest method of politics because it always succeed.

It invoke that tribalism nature in human.

Aeryon on the other hand wanted to unite them. And in that process of uniting, there is a few steps he could do.

He could crush all of those identity and make it one. Or slowly fuse it, mixing the culture

Each one has its pros and cons.

If he uses such a forceful method, abolishing all other cultures, ignore all oppositions and crush all resistance, it is fast.

But the hidden dangers are hidden. And fast does not mean it would last. Qin fell and no one mourned them

Those who idolizes the Qin dynasty did not live in that dynasty. If those who live in the Qin dynasty could see their descendant worshipping the Qin dynasty they would probably roll in their grave
