Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System
Chapter 381: Legendary Zombies Attacked
"Hey, kid."
"Aren’t you the helper invited by Crimson Desire Shelter?"
"It was so dangerous just now. We at least killed one or two zombies, but why didn’t you even lift a finger?"
"Hahaha, don’t tease him. This kid was just bragging. A helper?"
"What kind of helper hides at the very back of the team?"
"Does he plan to glare the Purple-Gold Zombies at the front of the team to death?"
"Look, he’s not even reacting after we’re talking about him like this. He’s probably already scared stiff."
"Actually, looking at it this way, we’re not too bad in the Wasteland."
"After all, there are quite a few Survivors just like this kid."
"Exactly, exactly! This guy is absolutely right. In the Wasteland, we’re at least mid-level in strength. There’s no need to bother with this little nobody."
As the mocking laughter echoed around them, Phanty’s eyes gradually turned cold.
A faint black mist quietly spread beneath his feet, and an almost imperceptible killing intent flashed through his crystal-blue eyes.
To him... Anyone who dared insult Vik deserved only one outcome.
Death.
Just as Phanty was about to make his move, Vikram casually raised a hand without even turning around.
It was merely a small gesture.
Yet Phanty immediately understood.
The black mist quietly receded, and the killing intent vanished as though it had never existed.
He obediently disappeared again in the surrounding.
Meanwhile, the several Survivors continued comforting one another, becoming more excited as they spoke. Smiles spread across their faces, as though everything they were saying was actually true.
The reality, however, was completely different.
Among those Survivors, the strongest possessed a physique of only a little over twenty points.
Such strength was utterly insignificant.
Outside the Wasteland Edge, they would be ignored entirely.
Only newly established small factions might spare them a glance, while any force with real ambition wouldn’t even bother looking at them.
Vikram merely shook his head.
Back on Earth, he had heard of people winning only in their own minds, but now he finally understood what that truly meant.
The team was still moving forward.
After scavenging the supplies on the fifth floor, the entire team proceeded downwards, passing through the third floor, which connected to the ground, heading for the basement.
Vikram originally thought that by ignoring these self-satisfied Survivors at the front, similar situations would no longer occur.
However, he didn’t expect that these people, accustomed to being suppressed, had finally found a willing outlet for their frustration today.
One moment they said they wouldn’t stoop to Vikram’s level, but soon after, their mouths opened like a floodgate, continuously spewing out derogatory remarks.
Even more, seeing Vikram as easy to bully, they even started to get physical.
One survivor reached out and pushed Vikram.
Seeing that he couldn’t push him, he was puzzled but didn’t think much of it; how could he lose face when he was already so hyped up?
He then leaned in and whispered, "Kid, if you really have the skills, how about when a few Epic-level monsters appear in this resource point later, you go up and show us what you’ve got?"
Although he kept his voice down, his tone carried a strong sense of contempt.
Several people nearby who heard this were first stunned, then revealed malicious smiles.
"That’s right, our great helper invited by Crimson Desire Shelter, just talking won’t do."
"Listen to your brother, if zombies appear later, go up and show off a bit, and then we brothers won’t say anything more about you, little brother."
"Yes, anyway, little brother, you said to yourself that you were a helper invited by Director Lilith. Purple-Gold zombies might be a problem, but ordinary zombies shouldn’t be, right?"
In reality, the two sides had no enmity or grievances; it was just that these ordinary Survivors, who usually endured cold stares, had found Vikram, a soft persimmon, today and wanted to squeeze him to see what it felt like.
As for what to do if someone died?
That was outside their consideration, after all, the powerful Survivors who usually bullied them didn’t care about their lives either.
"Sigh."
Vikram, who had already mostly finished his mental scan of the situation, sighed.
"You want to see me make a move?"
"Alright, just wait."
Hearing that Vikram finally decided to act under their coercion, the few immediately revealed victorious smiles.
"I finally understand why those survivors who are stronger than us always like to see our embarrassed expressions; it really is interesting."
"It’s a pity that the three Shelters are watching this time, otherwise I’d really like to keep such an obedient dog."
"Hahaha, whether this kid can even survive later is a question, I think that idea is a stretch."
Vikram had shown no intention of acting even when facing the ordinary zombie attack earlier.
In everyone’s eyes, he had already been regarded as a mere laborer Survivor with only a bit of initial physique.
Only a cold glint flashed in Vikram’s eyes.
Actually, these Survivors were just pitiful people; initially, Vikram had no intention of being serious with them, as killing them wouldn’t bring any substantial benefits.
Unfortunately, he gave them a chance, and they didn’t seize it.
The team continued to advance.
Familiar roars once again entered the team.
This time, when they heard the sound coming from the very back of the team, everyone except those from the three Shelters and Vikram felt a tremor.
The next second, two Epic-level Zombies darted out from the darkness behind them.
"Hmph!" The zombies were incredibly fast, reaching Vikram and the other Survivors at the very back of the team in the blink of an eye.
"Captain Abhi, help!!!"
No matter how enthusiastically these Survivors had spoken earlier, they still had some sense.
They desperately tried to flee backward.
However, before they could escape a few steps, they felt a chill in their lower bodies.
What followed was a sharp drop in their vision, and a group of people uniformly fell to the ground.
"Ah!" More than a dozen screams echoed from the very back of the team.
Due to the second floor of the supermarket being underground, the visibility here was extremely dim, and some people, reacting quickly, lit torches and flashlights.
However, with such a large number of people, it was impossible to see everything clearly.
When they followed the screams with their lights, they saw more than a dozen Survivors at the back of the team, lying on the ground, screaming hysterically.
Looking beneath them, they found that both of their legs had been severed below the knees, and blood continuously gushed out.
"Aaaahhh!!!"
"Captain Abhi! Director Lilith! Director Jade! Save us!"
There were simply too many people in the team, and even though their screams had already reached the people at the very front, it would still take some time for them to push their way through the crowd.
In that short period of time, a blinding flash swept across the faces of the dozen or so Survivors lying on the ground.
The intense light forced them to shut their eyes tightly, while a whisper, like the voice of a vengeful spirit, echoed in their ears.
"Didn’t you all want to see me make a move? I haven’t even started yet, so why are you all in such a hurry to die?"
Only then did the Survivors, whose legs had been severed below the knees, finally realize what had just happened.
At the same time, Vikram, true to his word, walked forward alone.
He casually took an ordinary weapon from a nearby Survivor’s hand and, with just a few swift movements, pierced the brains of the two Epic-level Zombies.
Even though the pain from their severed legs was almost unbearable, after witnessing such a shocking scene, every one of them wore an expression of utter disbelief.
Only then did they finally realize...
They had provoked the wrong person today.
Tears of regret continuously streamed down their faces.
Looking at the dozen Survivors lying on the ground, Vikram merely glanced at them coldly before shifting his gaze toward Watery.
Watery immediately understood Vikram’s intention and, without the slightest hesitation, condensed more than a dozen Water Needles, instantly ending the lives of the people who were mocking Vikram.
By this time, Abhi and the others from the Official Shelter, who had been leading the team at the very front, had finally pushed through the crowd and arrived, albeit a little too late.
Seeing the fallen Survivors and the Epic-level Zombie that had already been dealt with, Abhi’s expression immediately turned serious.
"Who did it?"
"What happened just now? If you want to continue exploring the resource point, tell the truth!"
Abhi scanned the group of Survivors, whose eyes were filled with fear, and finally his gaze settled on Vikram, who wore a mask but had an indifferent look in his eyes.
Seeing Abhi’s gaze on him, Vikram shrugged.
"Captain Abhi, these dozen Survivors had their legs broken by the zombie, why are you looking at me like that?"
"No matter what, I avenged them. You can’t be so ungrateful, can you?"
Vikram had severed their calves before the team’s torches lit up.
He had Night Vision, but that didn’t mean others did. Vikram naturally denied everything.
He hadn’t truly encountered a Legendary-level yet, so he didn’t plan to expose himself so early.
Moreover, after spending so much time and mental energy sensing just now, he had discovered two interesting people among these Survivor teams.
It was a pity that not all Survivors were easily fooled.
A man, seemingly related to one of the Survivors on the ground, angrily said, "You’re spouting nonsense! That Epic-level Zombie was killed by you before it even got close, how could they have been injured like this by a zombie?"
Abhi’s eyebrows raised at his words. "Oh?"
"Killed before the Epic-level Zombie even got close?"
"Then, I presume this brother is not some unknown person. I just wonder, why is this brother being so secretive?" It wasn’t that Abhi recognized Vikram just by his facial outline.
Abhi only cared about whether he could successfully become the biggest winner of this resource point later.
Vikram’s strength was evident; if his identity wasn’t clear, he wouldn’t feel at ease.
"Little brother, this team was organized by our Official Shelter. Although there’s no rule against covering your face, it currently seems that little brother, you are a bit suspicious."
"As the leader of the Official Shelter, I am certainly responsible for the safety of these Survivors."
"Little brother, choose one: either you take off your mask yourself, or my subordinates will take it off for you?"
As soon as these words were spoken, they immediately won the favor of many Survivors.
After all, there might be a madman in the team who randomly harms people, and the Official Shelter’s people proactively stepped up to protect them. Not supporting them would just be asking for trouble, wouldn’t it?
