Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System

Chapter 214: Trading For Seeds

[Patrick: Is that true? I’m telling you, I even have watermelon and rice seeds here. Can you buy those too?]

Rice and watermelon seeds are crops that require a lot of water; many people grow them on Earth.

But in the Wasteland World, no one would ever consider such crops.

Are you kidding? Most Survivors can’t even guarantee they won’t die of thirst, so who would waste so much water to grow these crops?

Seeing that the other party remained silent for a long time, Patrick secretly muttered to himself, thinking Vikram wouldn’t dare to buy, and continued.

[Patrick: Just kidding, what fool would want them? First, tell me the price you can accept.]

Although the other party was a bit overconfident, he relied on this business to make a living, and now that there was a big buyer, he certainly wouldn’t offend him.

But in the next second, the message Vikram sent made him raise an eyebrow.

[Vikram: I didn’t say I wasn’t going to buy those seeds, but if I buy these two types of seeds from you, how much of a discount can you give me?]

The other party was silent for a while, then replied.

[Patrick: How about this, you first tell me the quantity of seeds you want, and then I’ll consider whether to give you a discount.]

Vikram heard this, reported his needs, and after some bargaining, he finally bought a large pile of seeds at the price of one and a half kg of food for one kg of seeds.

Roughly fifty kg of each type of crop seed; this was already the limit he could bear by exchanging vegetables for seeds.

If it weren’t for so much haggling, at the original price of two and a half kg, he might not have been able to afford more than four or five types of crops.

With the seeds in hand, Vikram did not immediately leave the chat box.

Instead, he took the opportunity to ask the other party.

[Vikram: Brother, I want to ask you something. Why have these seeds risen so much in price recently? It seems like other goods haven’t increased, right?]

The other party, having received so much food from Vikram at once, was already overjoyed and immediately told Vikram the truth without hesitation.

[Patrick: Why? Of course, it’s because there are Survivors like you who want to farm.]

[Patrick: The black fog is not like the extreme cold. Although the temperature is only -20 degrees Celsius now, many of them are farming indoors.]

[Patrick: Before, they couldn’t grow anything indoors without sunlight, but now light bulbs and such are everywhere in the new resource points. Any Survivor whose shelter has electricity will come to buy seeds.]

Saying that, the other party paused, then continued.

[Patrick: Aren’t you a typical example? You bought so much, you must be from a large shelter, right?]

[Patrick: My prices are absolutely fair. If you need anything again next time, come back to me, I guarantee good value.]

Vikram, having bought so many seeds, was already identified by the other party as a member of a large shelter, and the other party was now trying to cozy up to him.

After learning the truth, Vikram simply replied and then closed the platform.

“Most shelters have also started farming?” Vikram murmured.

He thought about it and immediately felt relieved.

Everyone wasn’t stupid; the path of hunting was no longer viable, and for sufficient food, growing crops was almost the only way out.

With light sources, it was understandable that large shelters were all vying to seize the initiative.

After the acquisition was complete, Vikram looked at the pile of crop seeds on the ground.

These included: potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, corn, cucumbers, rice, cabbage, soybeans, and some fruit seeds.

Don’t let the dozen or so sacks piled on the ground fool you; it really cost him a lot of food to get them.

He stored these in the warehouse first, and seeing that the three were still intently staring at the market, Vikram didn’t intend to disturb them.

He hadn’t forgotten one thing, and it was already evening, so it was time to move out.

“I hope you little runts haven’t left, otherwise it would be quite troublesome.” He muttered to himself, his hands still moving, already putting on the Moonshadow Cloak… Phanty, like always followed him.

“It’s already dark. I don’t think that kid inside is coming out, so why don’t we just retreat?”

In the dark black night, the six people outside the enclosure continued to hide diligently.

One of them, whose legs were numb from squatting for too long, stood up and said impatiently.

His words made the four people around him nod in agreement.

“Even if we haven’t fully understood the number of people in their territory, we’ve only seen four people and a child in all these days. There can’t be many more.”

“What good is a territory with so few people, no matter how powerful it is? With the strength of our territory, we can easily crush them.”

“I don’t believe he can fight dozens of our brothers by himself.”

Seeing that the five of them were losing patience waiting there, the leading Survivor pouted, also thinking there was some truth to it.

It was getting late, and normal people wouldn’t risk running around the Wasteland World in the dark.

Even experienced reconnaissance personnel like them couldn’t guarantee 100% safety from the dangers of the night.

He then waved his hand, and the five immediately stood up, tidied up the traces of their previous crouching positions, and prepared to leave.

“Gentlemen, it’s getting late. Since you’re all so interested and have been waiting by my humble abode for so long, why not come in and sit for a while?”

“Lest you go back and tell your boss that I’m not hospitable, right?”

A calm voice suddenly sounded behind the six people.

Those who had just stood up abruptly froze, their eyes widening almost simultaneously.

Their team, sent out to gather information, consisted of six people, meaning that during missions, no movement from any direction would be missed.

This was also why Sophia, Divya and Anjali, when they wanted to catch them, always failed.

Each person monitored a direction, coupled with their naturally good physiques, which allowed them to be in an invincible position, or at least escape.

But now, this voice brazenly appearing behind them immediately sent a cold sweat down their backs.

Seeing that the other party could silently circle behind all six of them, the few people turned their heads and looked behind them.

As six pairs of eyes scrutinized Vikram with different expressions, he casually glanced at the Survivors below the wall.

One of them, still holding onto a sliver of hope, spoke first:

“Brother, we’re just passing by. We saw a wall out here in the wilderness and were curious, so we came to take a look. We won’t go in and bother you.”

Rubbing the back of his head rather bluntly, he waved his hand.

Vikram chuckled, a hint of sarcasm flashing in his eyes.

“You can stare at a wall all day, so you must be very curious.”

“Since you’re so curious, you should definitely come in and sit. There are many more interesting things in my territory than this wall.”

Hearing this, the faces of the few people immediately darkened; how could they not understand his meaning?

They had worked hard squatting outside all day, but he had known all along and only now came out to make fools of them.

Actually, they misunderstood Vikram; he only came out at night purely because the Moonshadow Cloak was not effective in broad daylight.

At this moment, Vikram was quite glad he made this decision, because these Survivors, despite appearing ordinary, each had a speed of over forty points.

Although their strength was generally weak, in the black fog, with such a speed difference, Vikram admitted he couldn’t catch all six of them simultaneously.

But now that he was up close, there was no need to worry; it was just a matter of six peanuts.

For a moment, both sides fell into a brief stalemate.

Vikram was confident, but the six people opposite knew Vikram’s strength.

Back then, Vikram alone defeated six members of their territory, so of course, they dared not act rashly now.

After a long while, the leader finally spoke, “Vikram, right? I’ll be frank. We are actually a team sent by the head of our territory to recruit Survivors.”

When the other party explained, he emphasized the words ’head’ very heavily, as if afraid Vikram wouldn’t hear it.

“Today, we did observe your territory for a period, but there was no malice. This was merely to assess if your strength was sufficient to join us.”

“Now it seems, Brother Vikram, you are fully qualified to become one of us. As long as you agree, we will explain to our boss when we return. With your strength, becoming a high-ranking member is absolutely no problem.”

“How about it, Brother Vikram, are you interested?” As soon as he finished speaking, the leader, disregarding the puzzled looks from his teammates, extended a hand towards him, seemingly wanting to reach a consensus through a handshake.

Vikram first scoffed at this, then a flicker of disdain passed through his eyes.

Immediately after, he actually complied with the other party’s intention, extending his right hand at the same time, ready to grasp the other’s hand.

The man, preparing to shake hands and make peace with Vikram, breathed a sigh of relief at the sight, but the next second… “Bang!”

Accompanied by a slightly pungent smell of blood entering his nostrils, a gunshot, muffled by a silencer, rang out.

Flesh and blood splattered, scattering across the ground.

The man stared in horror at where his palm should be, discovering it was empty, with nothing left but an incomplete, severed wound.

Looking back at Vikram’s hand, which had seemingly reached out for a handshake, a pistol had appeared in it at some point.

Gray smoke still lingered in the dark muzzle.

The man, realizing what had happened, immediately clutched the severed part of his wrist, quickly retreated several meters, with the five people around him shielding him.

“You… How dare you?” Gasping for breath, he pointed at Vikram with his remaining hand, veins bulging, his eyes filled with blood.

“Oh, I didn’t do it on purpose. The gun just went off by itself; I originally just wanted to shake hands.”

Vikram spun the pistol around his index finger with a flourish, saying leisurely.

“You’re full of shit! If you were shaking hands, why the hell would you pull out a gun? Do you think we’re idiots?” Another person couldn’t stand it and immediately cursed.

Vikram shrugged at the remark, “Oh, so you know that kind of talk can’t even fool an idiot?”

“Didn’t you just try to fool me with that kind of talk? How come now that it’s happening to you, you’re not happy about it?”

“You…” The man who had lost his right palm pointed at Vikram, speechless.

His previous words were, of course, made up on the spot, completely false because he knew he couldn’t defeat Vikram.

It was to make the other party lower his guard and let him go back first.

“Since he’s already made his move, why are we still wasting words with him? I want to see how you’re going to fight six of us.”

The news that Vikram had killed six people outside the territory was not something they had witnessed personally, so they naturally didn’t believe it 100%.

In any case, Vikram wouldn’t let them leave now, so they might as well fight him; perhaps there was still a slim chance of survival.
