Wasteland Hideout: Upgrading from the Sewers
Chapter 597: The Pioneering Group's Looting Spree, Nuclear Weapons Research Team Assembles
The threat from the Dawn Consortium was temporarily resolved. Yu Yuan didn't linger; Alpha could handle the cleanup with the Pioneering Group.
When it came to looting, the Pioneering Group had long grown accustomed to it—in fact, they couldn't get enough of it.
The joy of looting was something only those who had truly done it could understand.
Loot once, feel good. Loot forever, feel amazing.
These past few days, the Pioneering Group had been riding a continuous wave of satisfaction. As Habaar put it:
Right now, even if you handed him a woman, he wouldn't have the energy to bother.
Discovering novel things during looting had become the daily entertainment for Pioneering Group members.
After all, when in the past could they have traveled to different worlds every few days to plunder them?
Just two days ago, they were locked in a desperate fight against powerful Bronze-tier creatures, rescuing an imprisoned Elf maiden.
Today, they were running through this desolate city, mopping up these weakling Thugs. It was no different from a max-level player returning to the starter area to bully newbies in a game.
Returning home in splendor after achieving wealth was like wearing brocade robes at night—pointless if no one saw.
Similarly, if they couldn't bully the weak after becoming strong themselves, then all the training and bloody battles they had endured would have been for nothing.
Of course, there was another important reason: the looting process satisfied their unique emotional needs.
Most Pioneering Group members had originally been ordinary Thugs or low-level underlings.
Back then, the upper echelons of their factions had been aloof figures who controlled all resources and held the power of life and death.
Now the tables had turned—how could they not be thrilled?
Alpha was well aware of this, but he wasn't worried about the Pioneering Group crossing any lines.
Because identification with the civilization had long been etched into every soldier's soul.
As long as something harmed the civilization's interests, Pioneering Group members would never do it.
Whether prisoners or supplies, all were vital resources belonging to the civilization.
If they wanted something, they could simply exchange Military Merits for it.
Now, with more worlds under their control, the items redeemable with Military Merits had grown increasingly diverse.
And they didn't have to worry about survival supplies or weapons and equipment.
Naturally, Pioneering Group members spent their Military Merits on things they were interested in.
Some used their merits to exchange with [Jackal] squad members for one-on-one combat technique training opportunities.
Others bought better equipment or weapons—things like inner armor made from Bronze-tier creature hide, bone-spike daggers, and so on.
Still others didn't exchange for anything, hoarding all their Military Merits, waiting for the chance to cash in on something big.
For instance... the qualification for the next Genetic Modification Serum enhancement.
In short, the Pioneering Group was no longer living in a daze. From the bottom of their hearts, they firmly believed that under the Leader's guidance, the Ten Thousand Nations Pact Civilization would rebuild civilization sooner or later—and they were part of that civilization.
-
While the Pioneering Group was scraping the Dawn Consortium clean down to the dirt,
Yu Yuan had already returned to Dead Mine Town via the Transmission Portal.
He saw dozens of heavy transport trucks already driving out of Dead Mine Town, heading toward Merry City.
Quis spotted Yu Yuan's arrival and immediately stepped forward.
"Master, 48 heavy transport trucks, escorted by three Mechanical Armored Vehicle squads, just departed."
"So many transport trucks—have all the supplies from Reyes Town been shipped out yet?"
Quis nodded with a smile.
"All supplies from Reyes Town were delivered back yesterday evening. The Pioneering Group personnel left to guard Reyes Town have also fully withdrawn. Everything went smoothly!
Basic materials like metal and resources have all been sent to the [Mechanical Titan Base Unit] for decomposition and recycling, while important supplies have been sorted and stored by category..."
Hearing this, Yu Yuan let out a long breath.
As long as the grain and supplies from Reyes Town had all been transported back, that was fine.
"Alright. Then handle things here by coordinating with Alpha. I'm leaving now."
With that, Yu Yuan stepped through the Transmission Portal and returned to the Hunter Training Camp.
Tomorrow was the opening time for the Civilization Relic. He had to use the last moments to arrange everything properly.
He headed to the [Nuclear Physics Research Lab].
Maguire and his assistant seemed to be calculating something, their faces completely focused.
Yu Yuan pulled out the Loser's Cube.
The next moment, the experts and scholars he had taken from the Dawn Consortium appeared in the room.
"What's going on here?" one person murmured softly.
Though quiet, the voice was startlingly clear in this room.
Maguire immediately looked up. Then, visible astonishment spread across his face. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
After confirming he wasn't seeing things, a look of wild joy appeared on his face.
"Angris, old Jin..."
Nuclear weapons expert Angris and aerodynamics expert Kimba stared in disbelief at Maguire and... this room.
Though it was just an ordinary room, everyone standing here were old acquaintances.
And all of them were colleagues who had worked on nuclear weapon and missile research.
Seeing the books and drafts here, they naturally understood that this was a facility for nuclear weapon research and equipment design.
Angris showed surprise and delight.
"Haha! Maguire, you old bastard! So you really didn't die!"
Angris walked over to Maguire, grabbing his arm, looking him over from head to toe as if checking his condition.
Maguire burst into hearty laughter too.
Seeing Angris's inspection, he immediately said:
"Stop looking. I'm fine—no injuries. The Leader gave me treatment above and beyond the norm. I just never imagined we'd actually meet again."
As he spoke, Maguire's gaze shifted from Angris to Yu Yuan behind him.
"Leader, forgive my rudeness!"
Yu Yuan waved his hand dismissively.
By then, Carmen had already arrived.
Yu Yuan looked at Maguire.
"These are just the first batch. More will arrive in due time. Your task is to dedicate yourselves fully to nuclear weapon research. If you need anything, go directly to Chief Carmen.
Also, regarding the nuclear test site—it's fine to keep using the Dawn Consortium's original one. You're more familiar with it there, which will help your research.
However, the defense systems there need an upgrade. That will take some time. In the meantime, you can use this period for planning and discussion about your upcoming work."
As he spoke, Yu Yuan opened the Motor Lodge, once again drawing curious and probing stares from the experts and scholars.
They were intensely curious about what principle created this space that felt like a miracle.
As the Motor Lodge opened, the family members of these experts and scholars all walked out from inside.
With expressions of shock and uncertainty, they hurried to their loved ones' sides, as if that was the only way to feel safe.
Yu Yuan understood these reactions.
He simply turned to Carmen.
"Carmen, I'm entrusting these people to you. Make sure they're properly settled. These are all vital talents."
"Yes, I'll take care of it."
Yu Yuan looked at Maguire.
"Now I've brought you the people you wanted. They'll be under your guidance to get familiar with things. And what I want—you should know."
Meeting Yu Yuan's calm gaze, Maguire's spirits lifted. His expression turned serious.
"I understand, Leader!"
Yu Yuan nodded slightly and walked out with Carmen, continuing to give instructions:
"The nuclear weapons research team is now assembled.
Xu Ke's uranium ore survey has basically locked down the approximate range of the uranium deposit. Consult Maguire and the others for their recommendations—it's time to start mining the uranium.
Coordinate this matter with Quis."
Carmen's eyes lit up slightly.
"Understood! We're finally going to start uranium mining? I'll coordinate well with Quis."
Yu Yuan smiled too, speaking with a hint of emotion:
"Yeah. Getting to this point hasn't been easy. That's exactly why we need to cherish it even more... Next time someone dares to bare their teeth at us, we'll just drop a nuclear bomb on them directly..."
Carmen immediately responded with bold enthusiasm:
"Haha, good... I'll make sure that day comes sooner!"
