Wasteland Hideout: Upgrading from the Sewers
Chapter 494: Wendigo Sacrificial Ritual, Summoning the Wendigo
“Where did this come from? The genes of that Bronze-tier earthworm?” Looking at the serum in his hand, Yu Yuan grew interested.
He knew Jiu Feng had been researching the Regeneration Serum.
Back when they brought back that Bronze-tier earthworm from Moon Shadow’s Breath’s castle.
Yu Yuan had originally planned to keep it in the High-Energy Automated Farm, but Jiu Feng took it to research the Regeneration Serum instead.
He hadn’t expected finished product so quickly.
“Master, this is based on that Bronze-tier earthworm and the Green-haired Seaweed you provided, with modifications made to the Salamander Genetic Modification Serum…”
“For now, this serum can handle general limb loss and organ regeneration. However, the regenerative effect currently only works on Bronze-tier creatures.”
“That’s enough!” Yu Yuan was extremely satisfied.
“Is the production cost high? Can it cover our troops?” Yu Yuan remembered clearly that several soldiers had physical disabilities, so this Regeneration Serum came at the perfect time.
“The Limb Regeneration Serum requires Bronze-tier earthworms and Green Algae to produce. We’ve already made 10 bottles of Limb Regeneration Serum, and after this, we can produce at most two bottles every half month.”Jiu Feng stated the biggest problem at hand, but quickly added:
“But this is only temporary. As long as we can capture other creatures with regenerative genes, such as salamanders, leeches, or planarians, the production yield can increase.”
Clearly, Jiu Feng had thoroughly considered the production details.
Yu Yuan nodded in understanding.
“Alright. Since production is limited, we’ll keep these serums for now. Prioritize our key combatants…”
As he spoke, Mona had already completed the Sacrificial Ritual’s setup.
“Leader, we can begin.”
Yu Yuan looked at Zhi Zhi on his shoulder.
Zhi Zhi immediately melted into his shadow.
“Master, the Wendigo is currently walking across an icefield, seemingly searching for something. Also, he’s been constantly on the move lately, apparently charging energy into a pointed pendant hanging on his chest. Yesterday, that pendant emitted a blue light, meaning it should be fully charged. We need to be extra careful.”
“A pendant? I understand.”
Hearing Zhi Zhi’s report, Yu Yuan knew this was the perfect time to summon the Wendigo.
He pulled out the Loser’s Cube, and soon three ragged scavengers were released from it.
Yu Yuan looked at these three men like they were livestock or wild beasts.
He had encountered them by accident while invading a player’s world.
At the time, the three were in the middle of a ‘feast’, and the main course of that feast had been some unlucky bastard.
Considering the three might be useful in the Sacrificial Ritual to summon the Wendigo.
Yu Yuan had brought them along.
The three were already scared stiff.
Seeing the cold, hard gazes around them, they wore expressions of caution and fawning.
But two of them, upon noticing there were women present—especially ones of considerable attractiveness—
couldn’t help swallowing a couple of times.
Though their movements were discreet, everyone present was at least Bronze-tier or above.
There was no way they missed it.
A cold smirk curled at the corner of Mona’s mouth.
The sight of these three stirred up some unpleasant memories for her.
She turned her gaze to Yu Yuan.
“Leader, are these the ones?”
Yu Yuan gave a slight nod.
“Just tell them the procedure. If they don’t cooperate… they die.”
His voice was as cold as ice, completely devoid of warmth.
Hearing this, all three men began to tremble.
They all looked at Mona.
“We’ll cooperate! We’ll definitely cooperate…”
Under Mona’s explanation, the three quickly understood what they had to do.
Their gazes toward each other were now filled with caution and wariness.
Because Mona had made it very clear.
Their task was simple: they were going to have a ‘feast’ here, and the feast’s target would be one of the three of them.
All they had to do was stand at a specific spot during the ‘feast’ and devoutly call out a name.
The task really wasn’t difficult.
At least, that’s how it seemed to the three. Wasn’t a ‘feast’ just eating?
Too easy.
But now, it wasn’t that simple at all.
Because none of them wanted to die.
And since they didn’t want to die, they would have to let someone else die.
The murderous intent in the air had already begun to spread.
The Sacrificial Ritual was about to begin.
Yu Yuan walked out of the room.
To cross worlds, the Wendigo had to rely on ice and snow, so it would only appear amidst ice and snow.
Mona confirmed with the three one last time.
“Did you remember everything I just said?”
“Y-yes! Yes, we remember!” The three put on ingratiating expressions.
Mona immediately turned and headed out of the ritual hall.
But just as she passed by one of them.
A flash of viciousness passed through the three men’s eyes, and they reached out to grab Mona’s neck.
Hammond, Jiu Feng, and Miller wore mocking smiles.
Bang! Bang! Bang—
The three had barely moved when they were already flying through the air.
Their bodies slammed heavily into the wall.
Pff—
Blood spurted from their mouths.
The three looked at Mona in disbelief.
But Mona never once looked back, not even her stride faltering.
Everything that just happened seemed like an illusion.
“Wh… what happened?!”
The three finally showed expressions of sheer terror.
Mona was now standing outside the ritual circle. She turned her head to look at the three behind her.
“You have ten minutes until the ritual starts. If you don’t finish… you die!”
Though Mona wore a smile and her voice was gentle.
To the three, it was no different from a demon’s whisper.
Their gazes turned toward the other two. The breathing in the room grew heavier.
“Nine minutes and forty-five seconds left!” Mona’s voice rang out again.
“Sorry, Third Brother! Let’s go, Second!”
With a fierce shout, two of them charged at the last man.
Punching, tearing, biting.
As the three brawled together, Mona had Qingqing and the others light several candles around the ritual circle.
And sprinkle some ritual material powder into the circle.
Under the candlelight, the blood of the three men in the ritual dripped onto the circle, and a chilling, sinister aura rose from within.
Hammond, Jiu Feng, and Miller all perked up.
They had come to observe this Summoning Sacrificial Ritual.
Because after this ritual, the Bloodline Tracing Summoning Ritual for the Vampires would be performed soon.
That was the real key.
They all felt the aura surging from the ritual circle.
Hammond took a deep breath.
“The stench of rot and ice-cold… quite nauseating.”
Hammond instinctively turned his head away.
The brawl inside the ritual circle was nearing its end.
With two against one, the outcome was never in doubt.
As the scavenger called ‘Third Brother’ breathed his last.
The candle flames around the ritual circle suddenly surged, leaping to more than twice their height.
The two survivors gasped for air. They had already been badly injured from Mona’s attack earlier.
Now, after the fight, their stamina was completely drained.
A dagger was tossed into the ritual circle.
The two didn’t dawdle. They dragged Third Brother’s body to the inverted triangle pattern in the center of the circle.
They grabbed the sharp ice spikes that had been prepared in advance and stabbed them straight into their own chests.
The ice spikes pierced their chests, and blood activated the ritual runes.
Then they picked up the dagger and began cutting into their newly dead companion.
Without caring about anything else, they stuffed the flesh directly into their mouths, tearing and swallowing ravenously.
The sinister aura within the ritual circle kept rising.
Even the two feasting on their companion sensed something was wrong.
Under Mona’s warning gaze, they began to call out to the Wendigo…
Though it was their first time, their chanting came out completely naturally.
“Wendigo… Wendigo…
Child of the bitter winter, starving soul.
I hear you scraping inside my bones,
I hear you echoing hollow in my stomach…”
As the chanting continued.
On the ice spike piercing the corpse, a shadow began to materialize. The shadow grew larger in the room, eventually taking the form of a creature with antlers.
Hammond was now on high alert.
And the chanting within the ritual circle reached its finale.
“The door opens… Hunger… arrives!”
