Chipango quietly stared at the shadow in the distance, hesitated, and slowly moved forward, trying not to make any sound. He was a real mixed-blood, fatherless, brought up by his mother who was a non-human creature.

A long time ago, Chipango’s mother had come to the land with Medusa’s clansmen to fight the war. Unfortunately, she was captured. Owing to her rare beauty, she escaped the fate of being slaughtered but didn’t escape the fate of becoming a sex slave!

In Chipango’s memory, there were all kinds of men crawling into his mother’s bed day after day. The comers kept changing, but the process remained the same until his mother was strangled by some thrill-seeking noblemen one day.

As a creature with intelligence, no matter how tragic her fate was, she still had some good memories that she would never forget. Gerald – a name that terrified lots of people – was one of the good memories that she had. Everytime she mentioned this name, her face would become extraordinarily gentle. It was Gerald who had taken away her virginity. Though he was by no means a man who would show gentleness and care to a woman, and even though had even brought her pain that she would never forget, she had considered him as her husband and had always told Chipango that Gerald was his father!

When the guests acted rudely to her, she would consider it as rudeness from Gerald, and when the guests showed gentleness, she would also consider it as Gerald’s generosity. Chipango couldn’t figure out why his mother chose to live in an illusion, but as he grew up, he gradually understood that without this illusion, she would not have been able to stay alive with the life that she was having.

Chipango hated the man, especially after his mother’s death, but he also knew that, as a descendant of the race of Abyss, if he chose to stay in Holy Crown City, he would also be killed one day. Thus, he left the place with the money that his mother had secretly saved up before her death.

With some luck, a thief became his tutor and took him to Isolated Cliff City. The first time he had come to the Tarasha mountains to practice, he was ready to die. But peculiarly, those who were eager to survive all died in front of him while he survived bloody fights one after another and became stronger and stronger.

From his mother, he inherited the trait of the Medusa race – Eye of Night Vision! To be honest, this skill was not very efficient when used by itself, but when combined with the profession of a thief, it became a treasure. Wherever he was, as long as the place was shrouded in darkness, it would become his paradise. In the darkness, he was able to see all of his enemies, including those who had used their Art of Invisibility! All things alive within his vision field would become clear red shadows to him!

Chipango sneered when he noticed that his enemy was hiding in a tree. How foolish was that guy to think that he could make himself invisible by hiding in a tree!

However, Han Jin was also sneering. While the thief was sneakily stepping forward, two strangely shaped bugs had climbed onto his back. “Want to attack now? Funny!” Han Jin thought.

As Chipango approached the tree, he slowly raised his face. The red shadow was still sitting there.

Han Jin remained motionless, adjusted his breath, and observed his opponent. If his opponent had only come here for detection, Han Jin would not launch an attack. The best way was to follow the thief and find the mercenary team that he belonged to. Otherwise, he would have to capture the thief alive.

After a while, Chipango quietly climbed up along the trunk. His actions were very careful and slow, moving inch by inch. However cautious he was, he didn’t notice the two weird bugs that were floating in the air and moving along with his body.

Han Jin stretched. Just then, a faint scream came from the distance. Chipango stiffened. It was from his companions! Though the scream was even fainter than a bug’s buzz, he still recognized it.

Should he continue the attack or retreat? After a brief moment, Chipango slid down along the trunk. After moving twenty meters away from the tree, he could no longer control himself and emerged out of the air, quickly rushing through the forest like a holy snake.

As soon as he returned to his camp, he saw only an extremely heartrending scene in front of him. All his companions, around seven people, including the leader who had done him a lot of favors, were lying in a pool of blood.

There was a red shadow sitting on a rock nearby. The Eye of Night Vision also had its shortcomings. Chipango could not recognize whether the person was his enemy or not in the darkness, nor could he figure out whether his opponent had turned invisible or not. He usually hid this secret well, and no one else knew about this.

Chipango bent down to check on his companions, directly ignoring the shadow. All of their wounds were the same – their necks were all nearly cut off. Chipango felt his blood run cold. A thief! It was an incredibly powerful thief!

“You are so rude,” the red shadow sitting there coldly said. “You should have at least said hello to me! Are you blind?”

Hearing this, Chipango knew the red shadow hadn’t released Art of Invisibility, but the supercilious tone of the man annoyed him even more. Chipango managed to control his feelings and replied in a deep voice, “Don’t you think you are too cruel, sir?”

“It’s not my fault. They refused my advice.” The red shadow jumped down from the rock. “Now, it’s your choice!”

“Mine?” Chipango subconsciously stepped back to keep a certain distance from the man, as the man in front of him must be a very dangerous person.

“We have taken up this task,” the red shadow continued. “Are you going to give up or stay to fight with us?”

“Do I have a choice now?” Chipango replied in a cold voice. “All of my companions have been killed by you. What can I do on my own?”

“They deserved to die!” the red shadow said in a cold tone. “Their target is a magus. Do you think you could defeat an eleventh-grade professional on your own? What can you do other than alarming the target?”

“The employer made it clear that she is a young magus without any experience living in the forest. If you hadn’t killed my friends, we might have still had a chance,” Chipango bitterly replied.

“So… you have made your decision to go against us?” The red shadow’s tone turned cold.

Chipango inhaled a long breath, took out a magic scroll, and threw it out. It was the Art of Illumination. He had to do this so that he could temporarily deactivate the Eye of Night Vision.

A bony and bleak face appeared in front of him. Chipango opened his eyes wide and spontaneously stepped back, though his opponent took no action at all. “It’s you, Gibran!” he said in a trembling voice.

“Haha. Didn’t you recognize me just now?”

Chipango had nearly released Art of Invisibility instinctively. Though he had timely controlled himself to avoid a misunderstanding, he still looked around as if he were looking for someone.

“You don’t have to look for her,” Gibran coldly said. “Edwina hasn’t come due to certain special reasons. Otherwise, do you think you would still be alive?”

“That was why you were talking crap with me, wasn’t it?” Chipango showed a bitter smile. He was still guessing his opponent’s intention before recognizing him, but now he was completely discouraged. The gap between him and his opponent was too huge! He might be able to escape, but could never avenge his companions.

Actually, the person that Chipango wanted to kill the most was Gerald who caused his mother’s tragedy. With his status, Gerald was able to protect her but he hadn’t done anything! Chipango didn’t go back to Holy Crown City because he clearly knew the gap between them, and now he was in the same situation.

“No. It’s not crap. I know that you have a skill similar to the Eye of Truth. That’s why I want to have a talk with you,” said Gibran in a low voice. “Now, have you made your decision?”

Chipango hesitated. Now, he knew his opponent’s intentions. With his Eye of Night Vision, even Gibran, a thief, felt that he was wasting his time here. Otherwise, he would have killed him long ago.

Chipango kept silent for a long while and finally said, “They were my friends. I will leave after burying them. You can rest assured.” He chose to compromise. A long time ago, he had picked up a stick and beat a man who was torturing his mother, only to make the torture harsher for his mother and be nearly beaten to death himself. Since then, he had learnt to compromise, well, at least, temporarily.

“Don’t let me down.” Gibran’s tone was tempered a little. Then, he turned around and went towards the woods.

Chipango kept vigilant until Gibran’s figure had completely disappeared. Chipango fell into deep sadness while seeing the lively figures of his companions turned into deadly bodies. Though he did not care about his own life due to his miserable experiences when he was young, this scene in front of him had really triggered his thoughts. Life was gone in the blink of an eye. Today, his companions had been killed, what about tomorrow?

His reddish eyes became wet. Just as he had knelt down, a figure appeared from behind him and spat at his neck. Chipango was indulged in his own sadness. By the time he realized something was wrong, everything before his eyes suddenly turned black and he fell unconscious.
