Chapter 2868 - 2869: Writings on the Tree

Chapter 2868: Chapter 2869: Writings on the Tree

Lady Laplace was silent for a moment before she said softly, "I wasn’t planning to come."

Angel looked over in confusion, since Laplace wasn’t planning to come, why is she here now? What changed Laplace’s mind?

Soon, Laplace provided the answer, but it left Angel somewhat perplexed.

"Baltica met with Glaipnir. Glaipnir didn’t plan to agree, but just as she was about to refuse, Luigi seized the opportunity, and she lost a move in chess."

"Thus, she agreed to Baltica. Since Glaipnir agreed, I naturally wouldn’t refuse."

After hearing Laplace’s reply, Angel not only didn’t get clarity but felt like the question marks above his head were accumulating, almost forming a hat of question marks.

Glaipnir was playing chess with Luigi? Originally didn’t intend to come, but agreed after losing? Why?

Could it be that Luigi made a bet with Glaipnir: if you lose, you’ll agree to Baltica?

Isn’t that too reckless?

Angel looked at Laplace in confusion, Laplace said calmly, "You should know what Glaipnir’s profession is, right?"

Angel: "Astrologer."

Laplace nodded: "This temporal body of Glaipnir has merged the memories of a Prophet, Farstar Seer, Celestial Master, Giselle Shaman... and others. These prophet-like professions from different worlds have created Glaipnir’s overly sensitive nature."

"She interprets any feedback from the outside world to the utmost extent."

"Like the scenario I mentioned earlier, at that time, Glaipnir was playing astrology chess with Luigi. Generally speaking, Glaipnir wouldn’t lose to Luigi. But just when she was about to refuse Baltica, she lost."

"She thought this might be an omen, signifying a change in the current situation. Since it’s a change, it can’t be judged by common sense, so she chose to agree to Baltica."

Angel: "..."

He now understands, this is over-interpretation.

He originally thought Laplace had something to request from him, so she came here. Unexpectedly, the true reason turned out to be so... nuanced.

It’s known that the situation of "over-interpretation," as long as your imagination is broad enough, is limitless. If you want to interpret, anything like the wind blowing leaves fall, clouds rolling away, or even the creases in your clothes not being right can be made into an article.

Thus, knowing the truth is like this, Angel almost couldn’t hold back.

"Since you know Glaipnir is overly sensitive, why are you still willing to follow her opinions?" Angel asked.

Laplace looked at Angel, her gaze very perplexed. This confusion wasn’t about the question itself but about Angel asking such a question.

—Is this the level of your questioning?

Even though Laplace didn’t say it out loud, her eyes conveyed the message.

Angel couldn’t respond just because of Laplace’s gaze, only silently teasing in his heart: Dox wasn’t wrong, she’s just a sloppy woman...

After expressing her suspicion through her gaze, Laplace said calmly, "The reason is simple, because I am her, she is me."

Meaning, her sensitivity is my sensitivity. Her over-interpretation is also my interpretation.

It sounds correct, like Laplace, Glaipnir, and Luigi are all her, just belonging to different temporal bodies. But it only sounds correct; if you look back at what you said, not a single sentence treats Glaipnir as yourself. It’s completely described from a neutral or third-party perspective of Glaipnir’s mental journey.

This also makes Angel subconsciously treat Glaipnir and Laplace separately.

As a result, now Laplace looks at him with disdain, using a dismissive tone to say: I am her, her actions are my actions, her thoughts are my thoughts.

Facing this situation, Angel truly was speechless.

He didn’t bother to argue with this sloppy woman, putting on a "sudden realization" expression, and said, "I see, I understand."

"By the way, how do you initiate this sweet dream?" Angel stiffly changed the subject.

Laplace: "Pass through the pink wind, and you’ll enter the beautiful dream. Are you planning to experience the sweet dream first?"

Angel shook his head: "No, before setting up a complete research program, I don’t plan on experiencing the sweet dream."

The side effects of the sweet dream are quite significant; he just came to try bringing the sweet dream into the Wilderness of Dreams, without the intention of getting himself involved.

Jon’s teachings from young make Angel very wary of becoming addicted. Even if it’s an addiction to beautiful dreams, Angel doesn’t want to get overly indulged.

Even experiencing once might give rise to some heart addiction.

Therefore, holding the principle that if you don’t indulge, nothing will happen, Angel definitely wouldn’t experience the sweet dream.

Laplace: "Since you won’t experience the sweet dream, how do you plan to draft the research program?"

Angel maintained the previous attitude: "Take it step by step. I’ll first get a close sense of the situation of this mysterious object, maybe I’ll have some ideas. A Wizard’s inspiration often comes from this kind of casual, unintentional process."

Laplace didn’t comment on this, just nodded, and flew together with Angel to the top of the giant tree.

Angel, although curious about the type of tree, didn’t pay much attention to it. In his view, this tree is just an ordinary tree, perhaps with a slightly unique species; even if it possesses transcendent qualities, they belong to the internal nature and aren’t strong enough to make Angel feel threatened.

As Angel flew towards the top of the tree, some previously unnoticed details came into view.

Among them, what surprised Angel was the robust trunk hidden beneath numerous branches and leaves, bearing many artificial marks.

Firstly, the trunk itself was wide and winding, and its smoothness exceeded Angel’s expectations, resembling a winding upward path.

Even ordinary people could easily walk up.

Furthermore, Angel noticed that some parts slightly more steep on the sides of the trunk had grown out handrails similar to railings, completely resembling a trunk road.

If it were solely a trunk road, Angel wouldn’t be too surprised, for the Tree Spirit’s main body not only allowed the trunk to become a road but the leaves could also form plazas, branches could serve as bus routes. He’s grown accustomed to such tree-shaped modifications.

The reason Angel continued to frequently gaze at the tree was that he saw many tree holes, some of them even equipped with "doors," blatantly proclaiming their "artificial" excavation.

On the door of one tree hole, he saw a row of carved words.

Angel stared intently at them, the words had slightly deformed, but that didn’t hinder observation.

"Do you recognize these words?" Laplace looked along Angel’s gaze.

Angel pondered and replied: "No, but they should be a variant of Abyssal Demon Script."

This kind of text with transcendent properties is difficult to analyze with spell techniques. Moreover, these texts are sparse and insufficient to deduce intentions through examples.

"You don’t recognize them either..." Laplace’s tone carried a hint of disappointment.

Angel: "Does Lady Laplace think I should recognize these texts?"

"I believe in Glaipnir’s judgment. Since she asked me to come, there must be some significance." Although Laplace didn’t answer directly, she made her meaning clear.

To put it simply, Laplace believed that her visit would lead to some gain or surprise from Angel.

Laplace thought that this gain might be related to this special space.

Since it’s related to this space, the texts and murals left here, Angel should recognize them.

But now that Angel has seen the texts here, he clearly expressed unfamiliarity. As for the murals... it might be challenging as well, considering the large amount of text on them.

"Does the Wise Sovereign also not recognize them?" Angel asked curiously.

Laplace shook her head: "He said the same as you. He can only recognize this as a variant of the Abyssal Demon Script, but can’t deduce the meaning."

"Even the Wise Sovereign doesn’t know..." That is quite interesting indeed.

Bear in mind, the Wise Sovereign is a figure from millennia ago, a time when information circulated rather quickly. Different phase faces of the Abyss had been explored by wizards, and even though they didn’t delve deep, most of the Demon Language was deciphered.

Yet now, there’s an Abyssal Demon Language that even the Wise Sovereign hasn’t heard of?

Angel pondered: "I recall there’s a gatekeeper outside the Hanging Jail Stairway, isn’t there a Demon Soul there? Does it know?"

Laplace: "The Wise Sovereign asked it, but it didn’t know either."

Angel shrugged: "Then I can’t help. I am not skilled in Demon Language."

Though slightly disappointed, Laplace eventually nodded and said nothing more.

Angel: "So this reflection space, is it from the Abyss?"

Laplace nodded: "Yes, it should be located in a special region of the Abyss. The source of the reflection is a scene witnessed by a creature just before death, which flowed through the tear mirror of its eyes into the Sea of Void Mirror."

After much hesitation, Angel finally asked the question: "Why do you think this place is special? Is it because of these winds of different colors?"

Laplace shook her head: "No, I have my own methods for judgment. This reflection space is, in my lifetime, at least one of the top three special spaces I’ve encountered."

Laplace didn’t state the method, which most likely stems from her talent or hidden ability.

However, what Angel didn’t understand was, even if determining this was a special space, what benefit would it be for Laplace?

Or rather, why does Laplace care about this special space?

Faced with Angel’s inquiry, Laplace did not hide it and said directly: "Reflecting special spaces can increase my capacity limit..."

But if it was just for the increase in capacity limit, Laplace wouldn’t be so concerned, because the role of this special space has already been fulfilled once reflected.

The reason Laplace still cares about this "special space" is that... she gained some special abilities.

"I’ve reflected many special spaces, but only when reflecting this space did I gain some abilities. These abilities can be called talents and suit me very well."

"Glaipnir also mentioned that the real-world place corresponding to this special space might have a medium enabling me to reach another level."

Angel: ... Another mention of Glaipnir. In straightforward terms, Laplace has a premonition or inspiration that this special place is beneficial to her.

"I see, it’s a pity I’m not familiar with these texts either," Angel said softly.

"...It’s no bother," Laplace said after a moment of silence, gently shaking her head.

Angel thought for a moment: "If I ever have the chance to go to the Abyss, I could help you inquire. I know quite a few friends in the Abyss. They’ve lived a long time and have their own means, perhaps they could find the source of this Demon Language."

Although Laplace didn’t think Angel could accomplish it, she still nodded: "Thank you."

A few Abyssal personalities flashed through Angel’s mind: Odeclass, Fafnir, Greerwu, Wodell... and the Resurrection Witch Baltica of the Land of Repose.

All are famous figures within the Abyss, perhaps they would know the source of this Demon Language.

...

According to Laplace, some murals still exist within some tree holes, and Angel initially wanted to see them.

However, the allure of the Beautiful Dream was stronger than these murals. Moreover, according to Laplace, there was also a mural at the top of the tree where the Beautiful Dream resides.

Though it’s not the largest mural, the fact that it’s placed at the top of the tree must have its special significance.

All things considered, Angel decided to head for the treetop first.

Quickly, they flew to the perimeter of the pale pink winds.

From afar, it seemed like pink winds coiled around the treetop. But upon arrival, it became evident that it wasn’t coiling but rather the pink winds tightly enveloped the Beautiful Dream.

The pink winds formed a pink wind "sphere", and the Beautiful Dream was inside this "sphere."

And the mural that Laplace mentioned, at the tree’s top, lay beneath this pink wind sphere.

The pink wind sphere’s extensive coverage allowed Angel to see the outline of the mural, though its details remained obscured.

However, the mural was now less important than this pink wind sphere.

Laplace had previously said that the differently colored winds here were reflections carried into the space. Why then do these pink winds encircle the Beautiful Dream?

Angel raised this question.

Laplace: "I can control these... winds, which is also an ability I acquired from this special reflection space."

"So, you created this wind sphere?" Angel didn’t ask about the specific ability, as it seemed untimely.

Laplace nodded: "The pink winds can calm the heart’s palpitations and amplify the positive side of the mind."

"These winds are extremely compatible with the Beautiful Dream."

"As such, when it surrounds the Beautiful Dream, its positive, beautiful aspect resonates with the Beautiful Dream, not only binding it but also concealing the mysterious aura leaking from it."
