Chapter 1415: Chapter 601: Every Family Has Its Troubles (Part 3)
This made Laine a bit displeased, so the Duke took the initiative to speak: "Honorable His Majesty the Emperor, you really brought me a big surprise!"
"I hope I didn’t disturb you." The Emperor smiled as he put Little Frederick down, waving his hand: "This is an informal family visit, don’t be formal. You’re not a Duke, and I’m not an Emperor. I just thought we’ve had quite a few dealings, it’s time to meet each other’s families... This is my wife, Helena, my son, Luitpold II, and my daughter, Anna."
"Hello!" It was the first time Laine had met the Empress Helena and Emperor Carl Franz’s eldest son Luitpold II. From the family’s demeanor, the emperor’s family seemed quite harmonious and happy.
Rumor has it in the Imperial Court that Emperor Carl Franz is henpecked because since his marriage, he hasn’t had any female courtiers, and he has only two children, both born from his wife Helena.
His eldest son Luitpold is named after his father, the previous Emperor, hence this little boy is generally referred to as Luitpold II.
"Come, son, let me introduce you to Laine Macado, Duke of Musillon, Divine Chosen Champion of the Lady of the Lake, hero of mankind, who has killed countless powerful enemies, covered in glory, his reputation spread across the Old World." Emperor Carl held his eldest son’s hand and pointed at Laine with a smile: "Haven’t you always wanted to meet him? Your father has brought you here today!"
The Emperor’s tone was calm, yet somehow different in an indescribable way. Laine was a bit puzzled; just then, the seven or eight-year-old Prince’s eyes lit up, and he quickly stepped forward, first saluting Laine, then lifted his head with his eyes showing less hostility, revealing a smile as he said earnestly: "Lord Laine, you are the hero of mankind; I’ve grown up hearing tales of your heroics! It is truly an honor to meet you today!"
The Prince then lifted his head, his eyes filled with little stars, totally embodying the look of a fervent fan finally meeting his idol and finding him completely in line with all of his imaginations.
Looking at Little Frederick, who’s closer to Emperor Carl Franz, and Luitpold II, who admires him, Laine felt inexplicably awkward and strange, feeling very uncomfortable, and quite eerie.
Laine looked up and saw Carl Franz sharing the same expression, the two fathers exchanged a glance, suddenly feeling an unspoken mutual understanding as everything was communicated without words.
That is called men’s tacit understanding.
Both sides introduced their family members in turn.
"Emmanuelle, you really are here!" the Emperor smiled at Amelia.
"If you can be here, why can’t I?" Amelia impatiently waved her hand: "You’re the godfather, but he’s the biological father of the child."
The Emperor smiled ambiguously and said no more, while Surya, Amelia, and Helena, three highly influential women in the Human Realm, instantly became acquainted, with Surya naturally taking them to explore her collection, leaving Carl and Laine by the hearth.
"I knew you would come." Laine’s expression was calm.
"I came as a friend, not as an Emperor." Carl Franz gazed at the flames in the fireplace, the Emperor silent for a while: "I just wonder if you consider me a friend?"
"Is there a difference?" Laine replied with a smile: "Ultimately, it’s the same, we are allies, thus friends, we must be friends. If one day we are no longer allies, then wanting to be friends won’t even be possible."
"Ha~ indeed." Upon hearing this, the Emperor couldn’t help but smile faintly. Yes, some things can’t be separated; he embodies this, and so does Laine.
"Since that’s the case, I’ll ask you a question as a friend." The Emperor pondered for a moment before starting: "Suppose you are now the Emperor of the Empire, facing competing candidates for the three Royal Chief Grand Wizards: Supreme Dean of Bright Academy, Odo, former Chief Grand Mage and Supreme Dean of Flame Academy, German, and the newly risen Great Alchemist Geld, who would you choose?"
"Hmm..."
