Chapter 1294: Chapter 554: The Battle for the Throne (Part 2)

In reality, Laine could understand Mathew Bade.

This was a prince’s revenge tale led by the Undead.

Many people believed this crazed Viper deserved to die, even Laine thought so.

But putting himself in his shoes, from his perspective, was Mathew Bade’s behavior problematic?

He was abandoned by Lorne, he wandered the wilderness, nearly dying. From Mathew Bade’s perspective, was his revenge wrong?

He was adopted by Akhan, the Witch Demon King raised him with care, teaching him everything. In such a circumstance, was it wrong for Mathew Bade to join the Undead Faction out of gratitude?

He was once an honorable Ranger Knight, well-known for his outstanding virtue and exceptional martial skills. When he discovered the true identity of the Lake Fairy and her plans, his faith shattered. Was it wrong for him to act to liberate the Kingdom from lies?

From these three points alone, Mathew Bade’s actions were human nature, and there was nothing to criticize. He did nothing wrong, just as he said, if Mathew Bade were the protagonist, his story would indeed be brilliant. A humble, lowly orphan, the noble son of a Duke, the adopted son of the Witch Demon King, possessing these three identities, embarked on his journey of revenge for vengeance, gratitude, and uncovering the true identity of the Lake Fairy. This would surely be a captivating story. With the decayed noble system and the dark peasant system of the Knight Kingdom, it would surely make for an excellent antagonist.

This story could inspire a new book. Laine even thought of a name: "Kingdom’s Bloodline".

Unfortunately, he encountered Laine, the Genetic Primarch of the Grey Knights, the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy, and the maintainer of the current order. Laine could not allow Mathew Bade to overthrow this Kingdom, nor allow him to complete his revenge. The living and the dead ultimately cannot coexist; they belong to two different factions.

From Mathew Bade’s perspective, his revenge was justified, while from Laine’s perspective, this Viper before him must die!

Before Mathew Bade’s dreadful power, Laine’s fighting spirit soared. His black hair flashed with golden radiance, his armor, though stained with blood, shone with a brilliant luster. He charged directly toward the Viper of Musillon, his challenge shout sounded like an eerie melody, swinging his sword in a fierce arc toward Mathew Bade’s body.

With the Viper Sword in hand, Mathew Bade was equally inspired for battle, cursing Laine loudly. In the head-on clash, Mathew Bade hesitated not for a moment, surging forward.

In mid-air above the center of their battle, the two met, their swords clashing, sparks flying, lightning filling the sky. In this duel of champions, the sound of metal clashing was ceaseless.

Laine began gathering all his Spiritual Energy. Now, silver Spiritual Flame and Spiritual Storm swirled around him as the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy leaped into the air.

The Viper Sword followed suit, Mathew Bade also leaped up. An endless aura of death from the Undead surged from him. Within the murky black smoke, he grew more powerful. The Viper Sword was surrounded by a red, bloody aura as they tangled from mid-air, falling downwards. People only saw them like a pair of flamingoes pecking at each other, repeatedly drawing and retracting their swords, entangling as they fell into a crater.

Amidst swirling dust, with a loud bang, two figures exploded apart, retreating to two sides to mitigate the fierce impact with rapid backward steps.

Mathew Bade roared in anger and frustration. He had pushed his power to the limit, yet he still felt inferior facing Laine. He didn’t know what legacy Laine received from Landuin, but the strength of that legacy was profound to him. Every strike of the Viper Sword could instantly claim the life of a Legendary Knight, yet against Laine, it could only be suppressed. The Goddess of Revenge slashed with world-splitting momentum, and the Viper of Musillon felt the pace of battle slipping away.

His nearly wild hacking and beating left him wide open, paralyzed by Laine’s Spiritual Storm over dozens of clashes, with wounds from the Spiritual Flame evident on his face. Once the Viper Sword was deflected by the Goddess of Revenge, the Viper of Musillon repeatedly retreated, trying to protect himself.

But Laine wouldn’t miss such an opportunity. In his eyes, Spiritual Energy gathered into a galaxy-like bright vortex. His figure exploded into thousands of gleaming fragments.

The next second, these fragments converged before Mathew Bade. Laine gripped his sword with both hands, raising it high above his head, aimed steadily at Mathew Bade’s chest, and with a clear roar, he thrust down.

"Puff~" The Revenge Goddess pierced through the black Cursed Armor on the Viper, the blade burning with silver flame penetrated Mathew Bade’s body. The vitality of Spiritual Lightning rampaged inside, destroying his organs.

Mathew Bade’s screams were deafening. The pain of the Revenge Goddess’ blade penetrating his body drove him mad. The handsome face of Musillon’s Viper contorted deeply. In his madness, he immediately raised his Viper Sword, intending to pierce through Laine’s chest simultaneously!

This madman!

Laine had no choice but to withdraw his blade and retreat. Yet even so, his shoulder was pierced twice by the Viper Sword.

No time to examine his wounds, Laine could feel he was poisoned. His Spiritual Energy was protecting his body. The Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy was forced to kneel on one knee, not daring to move. Laine immediately directed his Spiritual Energy to expel the poison, else it would spread throughout his body via his bloodstream.

The ground rippled like water, gusts of wind surged forward, and Laine barely lifted his head.

Mathew Bade clutched his chest, yet the wound from the Revenge Goddess still bled profusely. On the struggling face of Musillon’s Viper, a look of panic surfaced. In his prolonged and painful screams, something else seemed to be contained.

His body was collapsing — his heart had been pierced. As a human, Mathew Bade knew if this continued, his revenge would end here.

"No! Everything of mine, cannot end here!" In his madness, Mathew Bade finally made up his mind. He retrieved a vial of red potion emitting an eerie black mist from his body, opened the stopper, and drank it down.

"What is this?!" Laine’s eyes widened.

Crimson mist enveloped Mathew Bade. His complexion turned ghostly pale, his once-blue irises turned blood-red, and his golden hair went white.

His power grew stronger, the wound on his chest gradually healed. Mathew Bade panted heavily, enduring immense pain, slowly rising.

"Revenge is everything to me." Mathew Bade’s voice turned hollow as he lifted his head, eyes fixed on Laine: "So I cannot fail! I absolutely cannot fail!"

"For this, I am willing to forsake my humanity!"
