Chapter 3149: The Reactions Of Companions

Chapter 3149: The Reactions Of Companions

Mountains, rivers, and the city’s outline all became streaks of color rushing past. The beast was not running to escape this time, but to show his mastery. He circled the city in a large radius, each lap completed in the blink of an eye.

One lap. Two laps. Three.

By the time they had completed ten, only a few seconds had passed. The riders barely felt the ground touch beneath them, so smooth was the movement. Yet to the people of the city, the sight was something else entirely.

From the streets, what they saw was a red and blue streak whipping around their walls.

Windstorms rose in its wake, the speed carving a vortex that spun like a tornado. Dust, leaves, and loose cloth were pulled into the air, the whirlwind sending cries of alarm throughout the city.

Some cultivators gasped, thinking it a Heavenly beast attack. Others scrambled to stabilize formation pillars, fearing the city would be uprooted. But just as panic began to take hold, the streak halted. The winds died, the dust settled, and silence returned as abruptly as the chaos had come.

At the city’s edge stood Little Shrubby, calm once more, his passengers unharmed. Lin Mu stepped down from his back, his expression composed though his eyes betrayed satisfaction.

’I need to upgrade the harness more and also had more stabilizing Formations. The wind pressure is straining them again.’ He thought internally.

The twins uncoiled, still buzzing with excitement. "Again! Again!" they chanted, their voices overlapping.

Little Shrubby purred in amusement, pawing the ground as though tempted.

Lin Mu shook his head lightly. "Not now. The city may not withstand another round of your enthusiasm. Let us save that strength for when it is needed."

"Alright." The beast gave a reluctant nod, though his tail flicked with leftover energy.

Lin Mu looked at him once more, studying the lightning marks streaking his legs.

He thought of the battles to come, of enemies who would test them, and of the missions ahead. With this power, Little Shrubby was no longer simply his companion. He was a force capable of changing the tide of battle on his own.

And deep inside, Lin Mu felt a surge of relief and pride.

Together, they were growing stronger still.

Lin Mu guided Little Shrubby back toward his courtyard, the beast padding silently at his side, though sparks of residual lightning still flickered faintly around his paws.

The twins slithered happily behind, still buzzing from the exhilarating ride, their laughter or rather hisses ringing in the air. The strong winds that had once been stirred into a storm by his companion’s speed had long since quieted, but the sense of awe in Lin Mu’s heart lingered.

They entered the courtyard just as three familiar figures approached. Grand Elder Huo, Daoist Chu, and Meng Bai had clearly been drawn by the earlier disturbance. Their expressions ranged from curiosity to restrained concern.

Grand Elder Huo’s sharp eyes swept over the beast immediately, the corners of his gaze narrowing with a flicker of realization. "Lin Mu," he said in a tone that balanced between inquiry and knowing. "The tornado earlier. That was not natural, was it? Was it because of this one?" His gaze shifted to Little Shrubby, who sat proudly, tail curled like a banner of red and black striped fur.

Lin Mu inclined his head calmly. "Yes. Little Shrubby just underwent his breakthrough."

Daoist Chu raised his brows slightly, his hands clasped behind his back. "A breakthrough? Strange. We barely sensed any tribulation energy. At most, there were a few rumbles of lightning."

Meng Bai nodded quickly, his young face earnest. "I felt the pressure for a moment, but then it vanished. It did not seem like a full tribulation."

Lin Mu folded his arms and explained. "It was a lightning elemental tribulation, but it was mostly absorbed by Little Shrubby’s bloodline. Because of that, the fluctuations were kept to a minimum. If not for the streaks around the city, no one would have guessed a tribulation had taken place."

Grand Elder Huo hummed, clearly thoughtful. "I see. So that explains why the heavens were strangely quiet. Still, the formation masters in the valley must have noticed the tremors. Word will spread soon enough. It is only a matter of minutes before the city learns of it."

Lin Mu gave a small smile. "Yes. But for now, at least, it remains quiet."

The elder’s immortal sense extended outward, brushing across Little Shrubby’s frame. His gaze sharpened further. "Remarkable. His cultivation has indeed advanced, and not just his strength. There is something else... a new affinity."

Lin Mu nodded. "Yes. His bloodline has improved again, granting him a lightning affinity. That was why the tribulation manifested as it did."

The old man’s lips curved into a rare smile. "Impressive. Very impressive. I had already seen his speed with my own eyes earlier. From the city walls, it was like watching a comet circle the land. And when I focused more carefully, I could see you upon his back. Truly, he has grown faster than before. I would not be surprised if even seventh tribulation experts would struggle to keep pace."

Daoist Chu chuckled softly. "That is good news for us. A beast like him will prove invaluable not only in battle but also for travel. Covering great distances quickly is no small advantage."

Meng Bai, however, leaned forward with visible eagerness. His eyes gleamed as he looked at the beast. "Master, just how fast is he really? Earlier I could not tell. It was too quick. I want to see him run again."

The twins perked up immediately at the suggestion, their heads bobbing in unison. "Yes, yes, yes!" they hissed. "Big brother promised us another ride!"

Lin Mu raised a brow in faint amusement. "You will cause another storm around the city if you go at full speed."

Meng Bai grinned sheepishly. "Then we will go farther out. That way, the city will not be disturbed. Please Master, allow it. I truly want to witness it up close."
