Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Night Parade of a Hundred Demons

The Crescent Blades, carrying a terrifying tearing force, heavily grazed past the defense and slashed straight into Saiser’s back. Fresh blood spurted out in a brilliant red arc.

"Ahhh!!!" Saiser collapsed onto the floor, letting out a miserable shriek.

Delivering a thunderous kick that sent the blocking enemy’s sword flying, Leon leisurely reached out to catch the returning, blood-stained Crescent Blades. Forcing his opponent back a few steps, Leon tilted his head slightly to look at Jeremy and casually said, "It was too noisy. I couldn’t hold back, sorry."

Leon’s angular face remained entirely impassive, his hand gently tracing the spine of the blade; there was absolutely no trace of remorse in his apology.

"No, you did great," Jeremy replied in a low voice, fully condoning his teammate’s sudden outburst.

Jeremy’s gaze swept over the writhing Saiser. The muscles in Jeremy’s arm tensed as he raised his dark scythe high, intending to deliver a finishing blow to eliminate Saiser from the fray.

But right at the moment the blade slashed down, a lute string made of pure white light carrying an icy chill tightly wrapped around Saiser’s waist, forcefully yanking him back to the safe zone.

Simultaneously, a wailing melody erupted, sounding like the grieving cries of ghosts and gods. Magic power manifested into invisible sonic blades that frantically shot toward Jeremy’s group.

Jeremy was forced to retract his blade to defend, his eagle-sharp gaze locking straight onto the opposing team’s female captain.

Truly worthy of being a Sacred Covenant bearer; her reaction speed and ability to control the battlefield were undeniably formidable.

Jeremy immediately channeled magic power into his scythe, unleashing violent slashes to forcibly shatter the sonic blades. However, the notes from Anona’s lute poured forth endlessly. If this war of attrition continued to drain their stamina, his team would inevitably fall into a disadvantageous position.

Right at that moment, Evelyn raised her silver bow high. A brilliant arrow of light condensed on the bowstring, her voice calm: "Leave the opposing captain to me."

Releasing her fingers, the arrow tore through the wind. In mid-air, one arrow split into three, and three multiplied into nine. The nine ferocious arrows slammed into the sonic wave, triggering an ear-splitting magical explosion that forced the entire audience to wince and cover their ears.

Gusts of wind whipped the garments of everyone on the arena, yet neither of the two girls was willing to retreat a single step.

"Soul-Binding Spirit Melody!" Anona gritted her teeth, her fingers gliding nimbly across the Heavenly Spirit Lute. The melody instantly shifted to a frantic tempo, unleashing sonic waves that carried a direct, soul-piercing offensive force. Not stopping there, Anona immediately activated her second skill—"Chaotic Harmonic Conversion."

The sky above the arena changed color in the blink of an eye, and the lute’s notes coalesced into a blazing shower of fire. The brilliant red flames bloomed like fire lotuses, cascading fiercely toward Jeremy’s group.

Facing the devastating attack, Evelyn did not blink an eye, pulling her bowstring taut and aiming straight into the deep sky. The snap of the bowstring resonated, intertwining with a clear, resounding dragon’s roar. Five colossal arrows shot upward, tearing through the veil of fire and homing straight for Anona.

Anona retreated in horror, but one arrow had already impaled the lute’s frame. Almost immediately, countless coarse vines sprouted from the arrow, tightly constricting the Heavenly Spirit Lute. The remaining four arrows detonated in mid-air, transforming into a massive net of ancient vines that swallowed the flames whole.

Wood-element vines could actually be immune to the Fire-element?

Anona’s fingers trembled, her expression turning grave. They were clearly low-tier Covenants... yet their actual combat prowess far defied logic. She had vastly underestimated her enemies!

"Damn it!" Saiser, whose bleeding had just been stopped by healing, hid behind Anona and viciously cursed, "Those bastards definitely used dark magic!"

Hearing this, fury rushed to Anona’s head. "You shut your mouth! I told you to follow orders in battle, why did you arbitrarily charge forward and break our formation?"

Saiser sneered, an insubordinate attitude blatant on his face. "When did I ever say I’d listen to you? That piece of trash is an eyesore to me, so I attacked him. Think you can control me? If you’re so capable, go win it yourself. Don’t think just because you have a high Covenant, you can order anyone around!"

A teammate nearby could no longer hold back. "What the hell are you saying?"

Saiser simply ignored them. Anona was so furious she was choking on her words, but with their lives hanging by a thread in this critical situation, she had to grit her teeth and overlook her teammate’s sheer stupidity. Channeling her magic power, she forcibly shattered the vines constricting her lute.

Right after, cradling the lute with one arm, Anona directly activated the exclusive ability of her Covenant—"Voice of Spirit Control."

This sonic wave carried a tremendously powerful mental shockwave. Standing on the frontline, Jeremy immediately bore the full brunt of it. His temples throbbed violently as an agonizing, piercing pain surged straight into his brain, causing his vision to fracture into disjointed, blurry patches.

Just as Jeremy gritted his teeth, intending to forcibly channel his magic power to resist, a low, magnetic voice sounded right next to his ear, "Captain, step back here."

It was Phoenix.

Jeremy asked no questions; he immediately used the momentum of retracting his blade to retreat behind Phoenix. The moment Jeremy stepped close, a warm, crimson halo of magic elements instantly enveloped his entire body, entirely dispelling the explosive headache. Only then did Jeremy realize that beneath Phoenix’s feet, a colossal magic circle had already formed, combining both defense and wide-area crowd control.

This casting speed was truly terrifying to the extreme.

Glancing across the battlefield, Evelyn and Anona were locked in a fierce clash of magic power. Lucius and Leon were each overpowering a single opponent. As for Saiser, he had retreated far into the backline, his gloomy eyes darting around like a venomous snake seeking an opportunity for a sneak attack.

If Jeremy stepped out of Phoenix’s halo of light now, he would undoubtedly be suppressed by the Voice of Spirit Control once again. A flash of decisiveness crossed Jeremy’s eyes: Since close combat was impossible, he would switch from offense to defense!

He stomped his heel heavily. The Sacred Weapon in his hand shattered from its dark scythe form, instantaneously recombining into a scepter enveloped in blinding light.

"Domain of Light!"

Jeremy slammed the scepter into the ground. Four dazzling beams of light, carrying buffs for speed, defense, strength, and healing, erupted simultaneously, anchoring themselves onto his four teammates. Stacking four layers of enhancements caused his magic power to plummet drastically, and sweat beaded on his forehead, but the resulting effects were absolute. Leon’s group, which had been locked in a stalemate, instantly exploded with power, overwhelming their opponents to the point of suffocation.

Just as the tide of the battle tilted entirely in favor of the Eclipse Team, Kesar—the main attacker clashing with Leon—suddenly threw his head back and let out a savage roar.

A surge of wicked magic power violently erupted from his body. Under the horrified gazes of the entire audience, Kesar’s realm frantically skyrocketed from six-star to seven-star. The wounds across his body began to smoke, rapidly sealing shut.

This was the exclusive ability of his Covenant, similar to Amber’s Blood Rage!

"Night Parade of a Hundred Demons!"

Kesar bellowed, and the sky above the arena instantly went pitch black. The ground cracked open as countless demonic phantoms surged upward, lunging forward to bite and tear at Jeremy’s team. A thick, pitch-black fog rolled in, completely obscuring their vision. Seizing this opportunity, Kesar concealed himself within the darkness. Their support mage immediately stacked all enhancement spells onto his body.

Through the dense fog, a cold streak of light tore through the air, lunging straight forward.

*Thwack!*

A razor-sharp longsword completely impaled Leon’s shoulder. Fresh blood sprayed outward, dyeing a large patch of his clothing red.

However, contrary to the enemy’s elation, Leon did not let out a single scream. His face remained stone-cold. With his teeth clenched tightly, his hand—bulging with veins—reached out, tightly gripping the blade lodged deep within his bones.

Ignoring the sharp edges slicing through his palm and the blood pouring profusely, Leon twisted his hand fiercely and violently yanked the sword right out of his own body.
