Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Cat and Mouse Game — The Griffin Battle

Among the ten major elements, ice possesses a strength rating of upper-medium. The Ice Silver Art was one of the ten major elemental spells Griffin had crammed into their heads back in the Wasteland.

After the recent period of practice, Jeremy had fully mastered it.

Although held back by his realm so the casting time was still long, the power was beyond reproach.

The ice crystal detonated, transforming into countless razor-sharp blades piercing the griffins’ flesh. Blood splattered onto the snow.

"Screech——!"

A cry sharp enough to tear the sky rang out, shattering the ice layer right in that instant.

Several roars blended together. The sound waves carrying magic power were piercing to the point of being deafening.

Under that invisible sound wave attack, Jeremy instantly coughed up a mouthful of blood, his head throbbing and dizzy.

The four blood-drenched Fire Griffins simultaneously broke the ice in the exact same beat. The intense pain had completely driven them mad.

Ignoring the rain of ice thorns pouring down, they charged straight towards Jeremy.

Then threw their heads back and roared, spewing out fireballs. The sky-covering ice thorns were melted into rain. Their wings flapped hard, unleashing countless wind blades.

Flames surged from all four directions simultaneously. A "boom" rang out, and the branch Jeremy was standing on was burned to ashes in an instant.

One of them flapped its wings and lunged at him.

Jeremy reacted extremely fast. The bamboo stick in his hand swung up, tossing out a wave of sword aura while he simultaneously spun and delivered a kick, knocking away the snout bearing fangs ready to snap at his neck.

"Screech roar!"

The griffin suffered the pain, forced to jerk backward into the distance.

But Jeremy didn’t give it a single beat to breathe.

Wind rose. Fallen leaves drifted by.

His fingertips caught two bamboo leaves, channeled magic power into them, and threw them like throwing knives.

The two leaves plunged deep into the joints of its massive wings.

Blood spurted out. Jeremy leaned forward and lunged over, the slender bamboo stick in his hand used exactly like a blade, piercing without hesitation through the heart containing the magic core.

The griffin, already severely injured by the spell attack earlier, now suffering this lightning-fast ambush, fundamentally couldn’t react in time.

Before it could even let out a tragic cry, it stopped breathing.

Seeing their comrade die tragically, the fury in the eyes of the remaining three seemed to solidify into a physical entity.

Having an immediate lesson right in front of their eyes, these inherently slow-witted magical beasts also wised up. They no longer scattered but joined forces to attack.

The size disparity was too vast, and the numbers were unequal; Jeremy fell into a visibly disadvantaged position.

The surrounding cover had been almost completely destroyed. Lingering here any longer was useless.

Jeremy gathered momentum and dashed in one direction, intending to rely on the terrain to break the encirclement step by step.

From the corner of his eye, he glanced towards Mouse No. 16.

Both the quantity and strength of the griffin flock on that side were slightly superior. But she had already taken down two. Although she had wounds on her body, her demeanor remained as leisurely as if she had energy to spare.

Confirming the other party was fine, Jeremy retracted his gaze.

He transformed magic power into wings, dashing towards another intersection.

The three griffins relentlessly pursued him. The holes on their bodies left by the Ice Silver Art still bled incessantly, but they resolutely refused to let go.

Fireballs wrapped in purple lightning flew over consecutively like a rain of arrows.

With these types of long-range attacks, Jeremy had tasted hundreds of them. His body dodged so fast only afterimages remained, weaving through every gap between the fireballs, not a single hair harmed.

Conversely, the forest collapsed very rapidly under their firepower.

That stubbornness made Jeremy secretly praise their perseverance.

The battle dragged on. Trees, flowers, and grass sequentially turned to ash following the spread of the flames.

The space ahead suddenly opened up. The fog also visibly thinned, visibility no longer blocked.

"..."

Jeremy slightly narrowed his eyes. A crazy idea faintly surfaced in his head.

...Since walking out of the maze is impossible, then just destroy it completely.

The thought just kindling, he immediately changed his target.

When crossing a fork in the road, he intentionally stopped to engage in combat. And the three griffins were also angered half to death by that arrogant attitude.

If not restricted by their realm so they hadn’t learned to speak human language yet, they definitely would have been cursing loudly.

Under their fury, their attacks became even more frantic.

Watching the forest collapse at breakneck speed, Jeremy was extremely satisfied.

But the terrain transformation speed here was too fast. Even if destroyed, after a short while it would automatically recover to its original state.

Going on like this, they still wouldn’t find a way out.

Pondering for a moment, upon passing the fourth intersection, Jeremy decided to turn back.

He originally intended to ask Mouse No. 16 to cooperate and lend a hand. But upon finding her, he discovered the other party’s thoughts perfectly coincided with his own.

Four eyes met. Both read the surprise in the other’s eyes.

...Unexpectedly in sync.

Jeremy’s mood improved significantly.

Mouse No. 16 truly also didn’t expect the other party to think exactly the same as her. She blanked for a beat then smiled quietly.

She raised her hand pointing backwards: "Going this way is the fastest."

Jeremy gave a "yeah" in response.

The shadows of the two wove through the seemingly endless labyrinth forest. Behind them were the six griffins frantically pursuing.

Every time the griffins showed signs of wanting to give up, the two would turn around to provoke and infuriate those fools.

The intelligence index of magical beasts depends on bloodline and realm. Intermediate Stage magical beasts, no matter what, are only at a below-average level. Teased time and time again, they finally reached a state of "not resting until one dies."

An hour later.

Under the tireless efforts of the two humans and six griffins, the labyrinth forest was utterly smashed to pieces. The recovery speed could no longer keep up with the destruction speed.

Jeremy looked at the desolate scene before him, pondering slightly.

Along the way, they also bumped into Chaos Cats. But the other party seemed afraid of the griffin flock so they didn’t dare approach.

By this time, he and Mouse No. 16 had completely escaped the pursuit range of those two cats.

The maze had revealed a new path. Taking this opportunity to clean up the griffin flock and slip away before everything had time to regenerate was the optimal choice.

Missing this time, who knows how long they would remain trapped.

Jeremy glanced at Mouse No. 16: "It’s about ready. Shall we finish them now?"

"Sure." Mouse No. 16 casually snapped a tree branch to use as a weapon.

Her voice clearly didn’t ripple in the slightest. But the moment she lunged into battle, a battle intent radiated from her, crazy to the point no one could ignore it.

Jeremy observed the situation for a beat, then tapped his toes on the ground and vaulted up. The bamboo stick shrieked ear-piercingly through the wind, plunging straight towards an exhausted griffin carrying wounds severe enough to temporarily lose its flying ability.

But this one was clearly the darling of the whole flock. Before Jeremy could close in, the strongest one of the bunch abruptly swooped down.

The fierce wind current forced him to jerk backward. Claws grazed his shoulder, carving a deep, bleeding gash.

Jeremy didn’t expect that after over an hour of a standoff, its condition was still that good.

Having no free time to mind the wound, he bent his knees, contorting his body.

In a hair’s-breadth moment, one hand raised the bamboo stick to block the claws, the palm of the other hand pressing against half of a broken tree trunk behind him to borrow force and bounce back. He spun around, delivering a sweeping kick, and under the reinforcement of magic power, knocked it far away.

"Crash——"

The massive body smashed into a large rock, kicking up a blinding cloud of dust.
