Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Return to the Physical Body

Jeremy stood up, once again approaching the door.

But drawing closer, he discovered there was a lock on the door.

He tried to open it. Failed.

Forget it. It was only a consciousness space anyway. Who knows, the person on the other side might have forgotten everything as well.

The appearance of this door that could connect straight to another person’s consciousness space was likely an accompanying ability of the dragon bloodline.

Jeremy decisively gave up. He lay down on the spot, organizing his messy thoughts while waiting for the time to wake up.

After knowing the complete truth, what was his mood?

Absurd? Astounded? Or disbelief?

No. Compared to all of those, the very first reaction that sprang up in his mind was: lucky.

At least from now on he could continue living legitimately, not having to measure every word, weigh every gaze, anxiously waiting for the day his facade was peeled off.

His ability to adapt had always been strong. And he also always lived by the principle: doing exactly as he pleased.

So this bumpy background, to an ordinary person might be something impossible to digest overnight, but to him, it felt more like a character setting.

He wouldn’t lock himself in meaningless melancholies.

Taking life one day at a time, doing what he wanted - that was his guiding compass.

Jeremy stared at the galaxy flowing overhead; the ripples in his heart also gradually flattened.

...It was unclear whether this identity was a shackle, or a favor.

He had originally planned that if he was forced into another political marriage after breaking the engagement with Amber, he would instantly pack up and flee. But the situation now was much more tangled.

Of course he could still run.

But the original owner... should be called his younger brother now...

To save an older brother he didn’t have half an impression of in his memory, he pushed himself into a long slumber. If Jeremy only cared for himself and vanished, it would be a bit too ungrateful.

Previously he planned to run right after graduation for two reasons: fear of the Duke and his wife forcing a marriage, and because of the future where dark forces crushed the empire, dragging the entire continent into a war without end.

But if those two didn’t force a marriage, didn’t cross his bottom line, then he didn’t need to run that early either. Being a top-tier noble in the empire, living in luxury without having to worry, wasn’t too bad to mention.

As for the dark forces... waiting until they descended to run would still be in time.

According to the lifeline Sylas saw, the dark forces blanketed the entire continent ten years after Amber ascended the throne.

Amber succeeded to the throne in the third year after graduation, meaning at twenty-five years old.

Sitting on the throne for less than two years, he died, dying at the hands of the dark forces.

Between those two milestones was a transition period. It wasn’t until the tenth year after his death that this continent was completely swallowed and dominated, turning into an endless battlefield.

Counting from now, there were still about eighteen years.

Even though gagged by the rules, unable to directly say anything related to the dark forces, he could still maneuver indirectly.

If he killed Amber so someone else could sit on the throne, then found a way to make people notice the abnormal signs, even if war couldn’t be avoided, at least he could sound an alarm.

Eighteen years wasn’t a short amount of time either. Who knows, during that period he might find a way to awaken Sylas earlier than that ten-year limit...

As for what the so-called "mysterious dark forces" actually were, and where they originated from, that also needed special attention.

Jeremy pondered for a moment, ultimately settling back on his old motto: cross that bridge when he comes to it.

The immediate problem was how to face those two parents he had never met.

According to the conversation between Melson and the Divine Temple people, they would arrive in the capital this afternoon...

On this point alone, Jeremy felt a bit irritated. They had ignored Sylas to that extent, so towards him - the eldest son they hadn’t even had a single conversation with - no affection could be squeezed out either.

He would just deal with it depending on the situation.

His head began to ache again. Jeremy immediately cut his train of thought, not digging any deeper.

Unclear how long had passed, when the headache completely receded, Jeremy finally managed to open his eyes. The healing experts on standby around the bed immediately stepped forward to diagnose and inquire. Several priests also followed them inside.

Exactly as agreed with Melson, they re-explained the entire matter from its original root.

The beginning - meaning from what he had to endure right after birth, to the present, and the entire awakening process. They incidentally asked further about his experiences in the otherworldly realm, along with a bunch of other miscellaneous matters.

Except for the part about the future being destroyed by the dark forces - the thing locked in his throat by the rules - Jeremy cooperated and recounted the rest very smoothly.

Throughout the entire process, not half a ripple of emotion stirred on his face. He was calm to the point of being somewhat abnormal. The crowd in the room exchanged glances, secretly admiring the eldest young master’s ability to accept and adapt.

Waiting for the Divine Temple group to leave the room, Melson looked at the person on the bed who was both familiar and strange, speaking up: "The Duke and Duchess will arrive in the afternoon. During tomorrow’s royal banquet, they will attend with you, to announce your return to the entire empire."

"Yeah." Jeremy gave a flat reply.

"..."

Even though he was very curious as to why the other party could be so calm, Melson didn’t ask another question. Having presented the schedule, he stepped down.

When everyone had withdrawn, Jeremy cast his eyes toward the magic calendar and the clock on the wall.

Imperial calendar, the twenty-ninth of December. Seven-oh-five in the morning.

He had been lying unconscious for almost an entire day.

Tomorrow was the thirtieth, the royal family’s year-end banquet took place. The day after tomorrow was the first of January, the first day of the new year according to the imperial calendar.

Including the year-end banquet, this banquet sequence lasted continuously for three days, the whole country celebrating together. Unless there were major matters to handle, all prominent nobles in the empire were obligated to attend the first two days; the third day could be declined.

There was no need to think to know how incredibly cumbersome the bunch of procedures to drag through in the coming days would be.

Jeremy left the bed, stepped in front of the mirror, and cast a sweeping glance over his current physical body.

While he was comatose, the Divine Temple people seemed to have done something, separating him from Sylas’s body and returning him to the physical body that truly belonged to him.

Perhaps because they shared the direct bloodline, the height of this body and Sylas’s was almost identical, both around one meter seventy-five.

The facial features weren’t too different either. The biggest distinguishing point was the heterochromic eyes and the dragon mark blooming like a flower in the middle of his forehead.

In his past life on Earth, unclear if it was due to his incomplete soul, he was completely unable to distinguish colors. The entire world only existed in two shades of gray and white.

His master had said he was born with eyes of two different colors, but he himself couldn’t even see it, so he had never cared.

Thinking back now, although he was colorblind in his past life, his facial features didn’t deviate much from now. Previously, he had still considered it a coincidence. Looking at it now, it was all a destiny pre-arranged in the unseen world.
