Waking Up To A Broken Engagement, I Instantly Turns Into A Mad Dog
Chapter 110: The Returnee From the Divine Temple
Chapter 110: Chapter 110: The Returnee From the Divine Temple
After washing his face, Jeremy casually pulled out a navy purple formal suit that looked relatively pleasing to the eye. He put it on, adjusted his collar and cufflinks neatly, and then went downstairs to wait in the living room.
He woke up quite late. Less than ten minutes after settling into his seat, Melson came in to report that the carriage had arrived at the end of the alley.
Jeremy stood up and walked out to the main gate.
The white-and-gold painted carriage of the Divine Temple came to a halt. A tall, lean young man, his skin so pale it was almost entirely devoid of color, was supported down by the priest beside him.
Although they were biological brothers sharing the direct bloodline, their facial features still had a few differences.
The brother wore a moonlight-colored robe—the uniform symbolizing the Divine Temple.
Perhaps due to not seeing the sunlight for many years, the brother’s complexion was a few shades paler than the original owner’s, so pale that the faint blue veins beneath the skin of his wrists were clearly visible.
His long red hair was groomed extremely carefully, soft as silk. Its length was truly formidable—even though the hair was tied neatly with a silver ribbon, the locks still cascaded past his waist, the ends curling slightly.
His facial features were inherently elegant to the point of being sharp and cold: a high nose bridge, thin lips, lip color as pale as if all the blood had been drained. Long, curling eyelashes. A teardrop mole rested at the corner of his eye, but mirrored symmetrically opposite to the position on the original owner’s face.
Most notable were the heterochromic gold-purple eyes, sparkling like two perfectly polished jewels. Coupled with the faint platinum dragon mark on his forehead, symbolizing the supreme purity of the bloodline. Those were the two most distinct points of differentiation between the two brothers.
But within those eyes, not a single ripple stirred. There was only distant coldness, and... an eerily terrifying emptiness.
The original owner’s reputation in the capital was terrible, but his appearance was acknowledged as top-tier among the young nobles. This blood brother was naturally also of matchless beauty, even gaining an extra layer of otherworldly aura thanks to those heterochromic eyes.
The only thing was, the person standing in front of Jeremy gave the feeling of an exquisitely carved wooden puppet, whose soul had been forgotten somewhere.
And... why did several high priests of the Divine Temple all flock here?
Jeremy felt a prickle of unease. But revealing his emotions at this moment could easily be twisted into a different meaning.
Jeremy maintained a flat expression, just about to open his mouth to invite the guests inside, when he noticed the gazes of the priests standing next to the older brother were all glued onto him.
Those gazes... brimmed with astonishment and something akin to not daring to believe their own eyes.
That abnormal reaction was so blatant that it was hard to feign blindness.
Could it be... with just a single glance, he had been seen through that he wasn’t the original owner of this physical body?
The thought had just kindled when the pain that had subsided instantly returned, this time more aggressive than any previous wave.
Blood seeped from his seven orifices. His soul was torn apart in a way that couldn’t be resisted.
His vision went pitch black, the entire world tilted. Jeremy clearly felt his body falling forward, but he couldn’t command a single finger to twitch.
"Young Master!"
Panicked cries erupted all around.
Right before his consciousness slipped entirely into darkness, a cold yet familiar voice rang out in his sea of consciousness.
"Jeremy, my brother, welcome home..." Cold, melancholic, yet mixed with a trace of joy. This was... the original owner’s voice. Sylas’s voice.
Before Jeremy could decipher the meaning of that sentence, he fainted completely.
Hazy mist. His soul seemed to be floating amidst a body of water.
When Jeremy opened his eyes again, what appeared was not the courtyard in front of the Duke’s mansion, but a borderless space.
He propped himself up on his hands and sat up. The headache was so fierce that it took a long while of massaging before he could reluctantly suppress it.
He looked up and glanced around.
A water surface as flat as a mirror. The sky overhead stretched out with a slow-flowing galaxy.
On the water mirror, twin lotuses grew everywhere, their stems entwined. Multicolored specks of light drifted buoyantly, fading stars suddenly flared up and then died out, so dreamlike it didn’t resemble a real place.
And right in the middle of that water mirror was a door, leading to who knows where.
This place... Jeremy found it familiar.
On Earth, he used to fall into long comas. Every time it was like walking through a lengthy dream, but upon waking, he would forget it all cleanly.
Even though he couldn’t remember what happened in the dreams, this space alone left a slight impression.
He had suddenly fainted out there; could it be that right now, just like before, he was inside a dreamscape? The only difference was that this time he was lucid?
Jeremy wasn’t sure if this was a distinct type of separate space or just a dream. But he dared to confirm the sentence he heard right before losing consciousness - that was the original owner. It was Sylas.
The older brother that Sylas called...
Could he have been calling Jeremy?
Jeremy found this matter so absurd it was laughable.
Suddenly, voices echoed all around, growing clearer as if someone had just turned the volume knob.
"For all these years we have used every possible method to summon the eldest young master’s soul back, failing every time. To think that his long-lost soul has been residing within the second young master’s body. Two brothers coexisting in one body - this is truly a miracle!"
These words were immediately refuted: "No. In early May I met the second young master and completely did not notice any abnormal signs. That proves the eldest young master’s soul returned less than a year ago."
That sentence made the entire space fall silent for a moment.
A long time later, another voice spoke up, deep and slow:
"The eldest young master’s soul, since the day it was ambushed by the dark power source, was swept straight into the space-time current. The physical body left behind only retained a single fragment of his soul.
Over the years, although he occasionally awakened borrowing divine power, he never truly possessed autonomous consciousness. Being able to fully awaken this time was thanks to borrowing the power of the Tree of Life - but ultimately, what woke up was merely an empty puppet.
His Holiness the Pope once forcibly peeked into the Mirror of Rules, discovering that the remaining fragments of his soul were trapped in another space-time, with almost no possibility of returning on their own. And the only variable in this entire matter is the second young master, Sylas.
Both carry the dragon bloodline, innately possessing the ability to see through rules, coupled with the unique bloodline resonance between direct members of the Valmont family. The eldest young master’s return this time... is definitely related to him."
That analysis received the agreement of all the others.
"In other words, in recent months, the one living in place of the second young master is the eldest young master’s soul?"
"That is correct."
"Looking at the extent of the damage on the second young master’s soul, I fear he borrowed his bloodline power to see through the world’s rule lines, then forcibly pulled Lord Jeremy’s soul back.
Even if the eldest young master’s soul later returns to his own physical body, the second young master - the one who suffered the rule’s backlash - will likely be unable to wake up."
