VRMMORPG: Reborn with SSS-Rank Plundering and Fusion Talent
Chapter 80: Forging the Long Night, Platinum Mantle
The golden glow of the level-up faded, and the suffocating purple fog of the Midnight Continent immediately rushed back in.
[-100]
Levi’s health bar instantly started ticking down again. He glanced at his mana pool. He was sitting at an abysmal 100 out of 2,060 Mana. Between the constant teleporting, the Guillotine casts, and the passive drain from his aura, he had completely tapped himself out during the final stretch of that two-hour grind.
He didn’t have enough mana to sustain another fight, and he was out of top-tier mana potions on his quick-belt.
"I can’t keep this up," Levi grunted, looking around the dark, petrified treeline.
He needed a safe zone. In Starfall, high-level hazard zones usually had scattered checkpoints where players could rest without taking environmental damage.
He spotted a faint, flickering orange glow on a small hill about a hundred yards away. It was an ancient, glowing stone brazier sitting in the middle of a ruined stone circle. A bonfire.
"Isolde, grab on!" Levi shouted.
Isolde stood perfectly still, her blank eyes processing the request. She reached out and grabbed the edge of his black armor.
"Hollow’s Traverse!"
Levi burned 50 of his remaining 100 Mana. The world dissolved into a tunnel of dark light. He teleported exactly thirty meters forward, carrying the Anomaly with him. He hit the black sand, stumbled, and immediately cast it again, burning his last 50 Mana.
They reappeared right at the edge of the ruined stone circle.
Levi practically threw himself into the light of the stone brazier. The moment his boots crossed the threshold of the glowing orange light, the thick purple fog violently hissed and retreated, refusing to enter the safe zone.
The debuff icon on Levi’s UI vanished. The constant drain stopped.
Levi collapsed onto the cold stone floor, completely exhausted. He checked his health bar. It was sitting at a terrifying 412 out of 5,480 HP. The short sprint to the bonfire had almost killed him.
He pulled a basic health potion from his inventory and downed it, letting the red liquid slowly patch up his missing health.
Isolde walked up and stood over him. She tilted her head, her gray cloak perfectly still in the dead air.
"Your heart rate reached dangerous parameters," Isolde stated in her flat, synthetic voice. "The mathematical probability of your survival during that transit was less than twelve percent. The logical choice was to retreat to the ship."
"The logical choice doesn’t save you," Levi gasped, wiping a smear of digital black dirt from his chin. "You said you have twenty-one days before the God-fragment deletes you. We don’t have time to play it safe."
Isolde stared at him. She processed the statement, her eyes flickering with faint green static. "My deletion is a systemic inevitability. Risking your avatar to prevent it is highly inefficient."
"I decide what’s efficient," Levi said, pushing himself up into a sitting position. "And right now, I need to craft some clothes."
He opened his spatial inventory and pulled out the massive pile of loot he had vacuumed up during the slaughter. He sorted through the junk until he found exactly twenty-seven identical items.
[Uncommon Cloak of Shadows]
They were ragged, torn pieces of dark gray cloth. They looked like total garbage, but they were the key to surviving this continent.
Levi activated the [Boundless Fusion] interface. The glowing golden anvil and fusion slots materialized right next to the crackling bonfire.
"Let’s see how much the developers want to rob me today," Levi muttered.
He started the tedious process. He dragged the 27 Uncommon cloaks into the slots in batches of three. He hit the fuse button nine times. The interface flashed with silver light over and over again, melting the cheap cloth down and weaving it into nine pristine, Silver-tier cloaks.
Next, he dragged the 9 Silver cloaks back into the slots in batches of three.
The system threw up the standard warning prompt, demanding a 1,000 Gold catalyst fee per fusion to push them to Gold-tier. Levi had a massive stockpile of gold from his Domain taxes, but it still hurt to watch the numbers drain.
"Take the three grand," Levi sighed, confirming the transaction.
Three bright, prismatic flashes illuminated the stone circle. The silver cloth dissolved, the threads spinning together into a heavy, dark-gold material. He was left with exactly 3 Gold-tier cloaks.
"Now for the big one," Levi said, his heart beating a little faster.
He placed the 3 Gold-tier cloaks into the center of the fusion anvil. He was trying to push an item to Platinum rarity.
The system UI aggressively flashed a critical red warning.
[CRITICAL WARNING: Fusing Gold-tier armor into Platinum-tier requires an advanced systemic overwrite. A raw currency fee of 20,000 Gold Coins is absolutely required to proceed. Do you accept?]
"Twenty thousand gold just to make a jacket," Levi complained, shaking his head. "Good thing I own a tax haven."
He dragged 20,000 Gold Coins from his digital wallet into the payment slot. He hit confirm.
The fusion anvil didn’t just flash this time; it violently erupted. A massive vortex of pure shadows completely swallowed the three gold cloaks. The digital grinding noise sounded like a tearing fabric of reality. The shadows compressed, getting darker and denser until they absorbed the light from the nearby bonfire.
The vortex suddenly collapsed into a single, perfectly still point, and dropped a piece of gear into Levi’s hands.
It was a heavy, pitch-black mantle that looked like it was woven out of actual midnight. The edges of the cloth seemed to constantly dissolve and reform like dark smoke.
[Mantle of the Long Night]
[Rarity: Platinum]
[Effect: +50 DEF, +50 VIT.]
[Passive: Grants absolute immunity to the Curse of the Long Night environmental drain.]
Levi let out a massive breath. "There it is."
He immediately equipped it. The heavy black mantle locked around his shoulders, draping perfectly over his Obsidian Carapace armor.
He opened his status menu to run the new math.
His Vitality had been sitting at 269. Adding the flat +50 from the Mantle pushed it to exactly 319.
With 319 Vitality, his maximum health pool violently expanded. 319 multiplied by 20 equaled 6,380. Add the flat 100 HP from his Obsidian Carapace, and his new Max HP was exactly 6,480.
His base Defense calculation also spiked. His previous Defense was 299. Adding the 50 DEF from the Mantle pushed his permanent Defense stat to a staggering 349.
He was practically a walking bunker.
"Stats look good," Levi noted, closing the UI. "Let’s test the passive."
He stood up from the stone floor and walked toward the edge of the safe zone. The thick, toxic purple fog was swirling aggressively just inches past the bonfire’s light, waiting to eat him alive.
Levi took a deep breath and stepped directly out of the light and into the fog.
The purple mist washed over him, completely enveloping his avatar. He waited for the stinging sensation in his lungs. He watched his UI, waiting for the red [-100] damage numbers to appear.
Nothing happened.
A tiny system log appeared in the corner of his vision.
[Curse of the Long Night: Nullified.]
Levi grinned, pulling his Sovereign’s Deathknell off his back. He didn’t have to worry about a death timer anymore. He could walk anywhere he wanted on this continent.
He turned around and looked back at Isolde, who was still standing near the fire.
"Alright," Levi said, the shadowy aura of his class flaring around his scythe. "The hazard is gone. Let’s go find the Spire."
