Chapter 450: The Strength of the Mind

  • Next Chapter

With a lazy swing of his colossal hammer, Mac turned the last lingering Hive Brood into a fine, and disgusting smelling, black-ish red mist that splattered across the abandoned Elven streets.

Without their Lord and Master, the Brood Hives were little more than walking, festering carcasses filled with maggots and buzzing pestilence. Any true danger they posed was reserved for the nice vegetables in your garden or a sweet treat you had forgotten that you left out on a hot summers day.

That is to say, they were completely harmless. Without the intelligence to bind them together into an all consuming horde, they resorted back to their basic instincts, which usually revolved around laying their eggs in faeces rather than complexly piloting corpses through a series of coordinated movements.

Mac let out a dissatisfied grunt as he glared at the pile of rotten sludge he had created, before his bloodshot eyes locked onto something much more lively. A figure of pure stone leaping through the rooftops, as if it was running away from them.

His fingers immediately pierced the ground, gripping a handful of the stone and ripping apart the earth with his bare-hands as he pulled out a chunk of earth almost as big as himself. Considering that he had transformed into a 9 foot tall hulking behemoth of man crushing muscles, that was saying something.

Belladonna barely got the time to revel in the wonder of her new skill before the earth-born meteor was hurtling towards the scar faced Grotesque.

It completely missed, thankfully, as it was thrown with more of a focus on earth shattering power rather than any hint of accuracy. In fact it didn’t even hit the buildings that the Grotesques were leaping over, as it sailed far across the city to splatter some poor beast on the other side of town who didn’t even see what hit it.

Well... actually it did. Even if you weren’t looking for it, it was kind of hard to miss a massive chunk of stone bigger than a bus hurtling towards you. But seeing a brown blur before you are splattered barely counts as seeing it, right?

Regardless, as Mac bent down and ripped another hunk of stone from the earth, Belladonna was quickly reminded of her company and more specifically that he was a breed of berserker. Not good.

"Mac, Stop!" She shouted, as she rushed over and appeared in front of him in a flash. Her arms were up, ready to catch the next meteor should he launch it like the next and actually work on his aim this time.

"They’re on our side, you don’t need to hurt them." She plead with the enraged Barbarian.

The size difference between them was utterly laughable, as Belladonna was roughly the size of one of Mac’s muscle bound arms. But the strength difference between them wasn’t too bad.

In fact, Belladonna was already subtly shifting her stance so that she could launch an upper cut if her words didn’t get through to him, because her fist absolutely would.

She didn’t want to hurt him, she actually liked Mac. He was sweet, but she knew all too well that when Barbarians lost themselves to their rage it was not exactly easy to reason with them and bring them back to the world of sanity.

"Oh, Okay." Mac replied with a chipper and cheerful smile, tossing the stone down and letting it shudder the earth with its landing.

"I just thought they were more enemies, sorry about that." He chuckled, rubbing the back of his head nervously.

"It’s uh... it’s no problem." Belladonna stuttered, giving Mac a strange look as she stared at him like he was some circus oddity.

"So, does that mean we are done here? Is there nothing more else to kill?" He asked with a smile, his baby-ish expression looking utterly baffling atop the mountain of masculinity that was his body at the moment.

It was like a toddler had drank a milkshake made of pure protein, steroids and seven different types of growth hormones.

"Yeah, it does. How... How are you not insane right now? Like shouldn’t you be... you know, Grrr!" She poorly imitated, giving him an angry expression as she made smashing motions in the air.

Mac laughed again, rubbing the back of his head.

"Yeah, I should. Sorry if I let the team down, but they’ve been saying for a while that I just don’t have it in me to be a good berserker.

I don’t know what it is, but I just can never seem to grasp what they are all so angry about."

"Then how do you get all buff like that? Don’t you need the class for that?"

"Oh yeah, I have the class its just... here, let me show you."

"Show me?" Belladonna had a brief chance to ask, before a screen appeared before her eyes and flashbanged her mind with the sudden blast of information.

She staggered back in surprise, not just at the content that she was seeing but the fact she was seeing it at all.

Showing ones status screen was incredibly rare, especially laying every single detail out. He was basically exposing every single one of his secrets to her, and he was doing it so casually and with a chipper smile on his goofy face as he did so.

Either this guy was extremely trusting of her for some reason, or he was completely ignorant of what she could do with this type of information.

But Belladonna had no bad thoughts about his stats, and that wasn’t just because they were largely uninteresting. His level was shockingly low, only early forty’s. Not even high enough for his transformation skill, as his buff mode was just part of his class.

A class that was definitely just your box standard berserker, with the Orcish twist of Ancestral blood magic.

What drew Belladonna’s eye, was the line labelled Constitution.

Not everyone had this line in their stats, she had found this out through her guild mates. In fact it was rather uncommon for one to have a special Constitution, and even then a lot of them were rather dull, such as being better with swords or a certain element of magic.

’Snow born’ for example, was a common one amongst those from colder climates that gave people a boost in ice magic.

The only other Belladonna personally knew of was Saige, that was how rare they were. Yet this guy had one, and was happily exposing the secret of it to her.
