Chapter 565
Spiraling Arrow Blade!
Devil Piercing Arrow!
October Rain didn’t even need a second Mountain Stagger Arrow. The combo easily deleted Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun’s last bit of mount tenacity. Right now the archer was a cannoneer, and the wanderer simply wasn’t equipped against this level of firepower.
Heavy-armored classes didn’t have an advantage over the archer class. It was because an archer could kite and kill most average fighters with ease if they simply used their skills—Freezing Arrow, Devil Piercing Arrow, Spiraling Arrow Blade and so on—properly. This was only truer for a CGL Hall of Famer like October Rain.
Thud!
Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun fell to the ground as his mount disappeared. The wanderer shouted angrily as he charged toward his antagonizer, "I could kill you even without a mount!"
He fired a long-range Rock Smash and sent a ton of rocks flying toward October Rain. The attack actually caught her by surprise and forced her to Guard, and even then she still took 13781 damage!
October Rain only had slightly over 17k HP, so the strike set off some of the alarm bells inside her head. She understood that the earth wanderer before her was a tiger, and the price of toying with a tiger was severe.
Her expression hardened as she moved away from Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun and loosed a Freezing Arrow at him at the same time. Then, she started using Spiraling Arrow Blades to control her enemy. The skill was an AoE skill, but its range wasn’t particularly high. Therefore, October Rain had to predict her enemy’s movements to land the skill accurately. It was a tall order to request from many archers, but October Rain had clearly mastered this technique.
Four Spiraling Arrow Blades landed close to the earth wanderer in succession and dealt over 5000 damage per hit. Although he could recover himself with health potions and skills, October Rain’s kiting still gave him a lot of trouble. Even his Charge skill failed to land as the archer leaped away to safety. There was nothing he could do at all.
In fact, archer had incredible 1v1 fighting power. If Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun could gang up on October Rain with another warrior where one person doggedly chased after her, and the other person blocked her way and attacked her, then the battle situation would be completely different. At the very least, October Rain wouldn’t be able to play her enemies like a fiddle. This was a 1v1 though, and the archer had plenty of room to kite and maneuver. It was the final nail in the coffin of Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun.
Thud...
The earth wanderer slowly dropped to his knees after his last sliver of health was gone.
The scoreboard turned into a glaring 3-0. Everyone was assaulted by an intense wave of displeasure in that moment.
……
Both players walked out of their respective battle rooms, and Eighteen Steeds of You and Yun returned to us with an ugly expression on his face. He looked incredibly regretful as he murmured, "Fuck, I lost…"
I pursed my lips and glanced at Gui Guzi and High Fighting Spirits. All three of them were looking at me with regretful expressions. Finally, I looked at Agi and muttered myself, "How did it turn out like this…"
Agi asked with a deep frown, "Can we still win this, Lu Chen?"
"It’s a tiny chance, but it’s definitely not zero. Don’t blame yourself, okay? This is nothing compared to the time I was wrecked by Candlelight Shadow. Agi, you shouldn’t let this match affect you as well. Remember that your team is made of growing players, and your opponents are established CGL Hall of Famers. Heck, everyone here was an unknown player half a year ago. Give them time, and they’ll show you what they’re really capable of!"
Agi broke into a smile and nodded. "Understood. Win or lose, I promise I’ll communicate with the sponsor and explain everything, so there’s no need to feel pressured, everyone. You may lose, but that doesn’t change the fact that you are the pride of our e-sports club. Plus, don’t forget that we’re down one member. Things could’ve gone different if the dragon warrior was here."
I smiled. "Exactly. If you do your best, win or lose you won’t be left with any regrets."
I put a hand on Beiming Xue’s shoulder and said, "Beiming, the next match is between you and Laughing At The Heavens, and October Rain just showed you exactly how to beat a rider. You know what to do, don’t you?"
Beiming Xue nodded confidently. "Don’t worry, big bro. If I lose this, feel free to give me corporal punishment!"
I smiled. If there was one person here that I wasn’t worried about, it would be my powerful younger sister. I gave her one last pat on the shoulder before saying, "Go, Beiming. Everyone’s watching you!"
"Mn!"
……
Both players entered the arena. It was the Dark archer versus the famous veteran Laughing At The Heavens.
Laughing At The Heavens’ Famous General Skill was Hundred Battles, a stratagem that increased attack power by 25% and attack speed by 10%. Beiming Xue’s Famous General Skill was Bow God, a stratagem that increased attack power and attack speed by 50%. As long as Beiming Xue kept Laughing At The Heavens at bay, the advantage was all Beiming Xue’s. It would take a miracle for the magic knight to beat the archer.
The fight went as I predicted it would. Beiming Xue kept roaming around the edges of the arena like a beautiful elf and showed off the agility and swiftness of an archer to the max . Moreover, her attack power was so powerful that it took her only five shots to delete Laughing At The Heavens’ mount from existence. After that, all she needed to do was control her enemy with Freezing Arrows and Spiraling Arrow Blades. From the start until the end, Laughing At The Heavens never got close enough to touch Beiming Xue, much less hit her.
Bang!
There was one final impact, and Beiming Xue killed the magic knight in a most dominant fashion. Laughing At The Heavens looked deeply reluctant as he collapsed to his knees before the girl. His spear was at last pressing against her chest armor, but he no longer had the strength to stab her. Slowly, his weapon clattered to the ground.
It was our victory. We had finally taken back a point and made the score 1-3!
……
Cameras flashed everywhere as Beiming Xue walked out of the battle room with a bright smile. Warsky Alliance looked perfectly calm, however. They were still firmly in the lead after all.
With his gaming helmet by his side, Lin Bing Dou Zhe grinned at Chaos Moon and said, "It’s our turn to fight, pretty. Are you ready yet?"
Chaos Moon stared at him with steely eyes. "The butcher’s knife is sharpened and ready to go. Would you like to bleed, or would you like to lose your head first?"
Lin Bing Dou Zhe shuddered and fell silent. The brief exchange made him realize that Chaos Moon was a wild one and not nearly as gentle as she seemed on the outside.
Both players entered the battle rooms and a short while later, the arena. This was a critical match. If Chaos Moon won, then it would be my turn to go on stage. My chances of beating Hundred Battler were practically 100%. If Chaos Moon lost, the score would be 1-4, and Warsky Alliance would win the entire BO7. I wouldn’t even get the chance to win my round.
I couldn’t stop myself from pulling Chaos Moon’s sleeves and saying solemnly, "Chaos Moon, you absolutely have to let me get on stage, okay? I paid the taxi driver 74 RMB to get here…"
Chaos Moon nodded. "I know, dear…"
"..."
……
I sucked in a deep breath as Chaos Moon and Lin Bing Dou Zhe appeared in the arena. To be honest, I was quite worried despite my confidence in Chaos Moon’s strength. Lin Bing Dou Zhe had never shown us his true strength, and back at the Nine Lost Dragon Domains he was killed by Candlelight Shadow’s Ghost God Prophecy before we got to see him in action. Heaven knows how many tricks the warrior hid in his sleeves.
Right now, all I could do was pray that a miracle would happen, and that Chaos Moon could defeat Lin Bing Dou Zhe. It would extinguish Warsky Alliance’s final hope and wipe off the annoying smile on that Pepsi team leader’s face. Motherfucker, her smile was literally built on the misery of my friends.
"Come on!"
Lin Bing Dou Zhe pointed his sword at Chaos Moon and laughed. "I hope you can stand pain, because I’m not holding back, Chaos Moon!"
Chaos Moon gritted her teeth. "Shut your mouth, dog. Take this!"
Chaos Moon ran toward Lin Bing Dou Zhe in a straight line and used Barrier Break. Did the pressure get to her? She shouldn’t use Barrier Break so soon!
As expected, Lin Bing Dou Zhe easily nullified the attack just by taking a step backward. However, Chaos Moon surprised us all by jumping straight into Lin Bing Dou Zhe’s lap and thrusting her blade into his stomach twice in rapid succession. It was the Blade Flurry skill—
7894!
8012!
The surprise attack immediately wiped off the shit-eating grin on Lin Bing Dou Zhe’s face and caused a bit of panic. He used his own Barrier Break and forced Chaos Moon to cease any follow-up attacks.
Barrier Break only had a short cooldown of 6 seconds, so it was both a deadly offensive skill and an intimidation skill. It would seem that both players knew how to exploit the advantages of Barrier Break, be it confusing the opponent into overlooking follow-up skills, or intimidating the opponent into retreating.
……
Rock Crush!
It was speed versus speed, and Chaos Moon’s AoE skill nearly crushed Lin Bing Dou Zhe’s heart. He had to chug down a health potion just to keep himself from dying on the spot. If his Famous General Skill hadn’t bolstered his Defense, he might’ve lost the fight already.
Chaos Moon froze up for a moment after using Rock Crush. It was a common flaw of all AoE skills. Not about to let this precious opportunity slip past him, Lin Bing Dou Zhe charged toward Chaos Moon and slashed her head with a fiery sword. The fire actually transformed into tangible shackles and locked her in place!
On the screen, the combat log stated: Player "Lin Bing Dou Zhe" used "Fire Prison of Heaven", immobilizing player "Chaos Moon" for 4 seconds!
……
Fuck, it was the exact same effect as my God Binding Art! The only difference was that mine was a ranged skill, and his was melee. Because of that, his skill was nearly impossible to dodge.
4 seconds was enough time for Lin Bing Dou Zhe to do a lot of things.
Barrier Break!
The strike almost emptied Chaos Moon’s HP.
Fire burned around his sword again as he followed up with a Berserk Fury Strike, a triple-hit skill. It would seem that all of us had underestimated Lin Bing Dou Zhe, and the price was Chaos Moon’s collapsing body on the screen.
……
The score turned 1-4.
We lost.
