Chapter 347: Chapter 309: It’s Those Guys from the Heavenly Beast Clan
Gu Ning stood there, motionless.
The staff member patiently repeated what he had just said, but with a heavier tone.
Gu Ning shook her head, refusing.
The staff member frowned. The Beast Police who had been watching Gu Ning and her companion noticed something was amiss and began to close in.
"You can’t cover your face for the security check." The staff member’s attitude toward the Mixed Breed before him was still relatively mild. Her personal information indicated she was a soldier from the First Military District.
The First Military District was closest to the No Man’s Land and formed the first line of defense against the Mutant Species. Constant contact with Mutant Species made degeneration a high risk, even though they used the best Degeneration Inhibitors available.
Gu Ning just shook her head again, gesturing to the staff member in coordination with Alex behind her.
’I can’t act aggressively here, or the Beast Police will drag me away immediately.’
"What are you trying to say?" The staff member didn’t understand what the Mixed Breed was trying to communicate. Just as the Beast Police were about to reach them, Alex pulled a document from Gu Ning’s backpack and handed it to the staff member.
The staff member took the document and examined it carefully. It was a trauma report.
Seeing the Military Department’s seal on the report, the staff member handed the document back to Alex. "You can go through." He then added a reminder, "The backpack needs to go through the scanner."
Gu Ning breathed a sigh of relief and placed her backpack on the adjacent conveyor belt. After Alex was cleared, he led her by the leash, and they passed through the second security checkpoint, one after the other.
Seeing them pass the check, the patrolling Beast Police stopped behind them.
Alex tilted his head slightly, glancing back at them with a flicker of doubt.
’They didn’t follow us aggressively. Looks like they’re not from Zone 15.’
Alex retrieved Gu Ning’s backpack from the conveyor belt and led her toward the ticket gate, subtly observing the patrolling Beast Police around them.
’The second security checkpoint was the best chance to stop us. Why didn’t they make a move?’
Gu Ning was also secretly observing her surroundings. She noticed that after passing the second security checkpoint, the tense, solemn atmosphere had eased considerably. The patrol teams weren’t paying as much attention to her as before.
’It should be fine from here on out, right?’
Gu Ning looked toward the ticket gate not far ahead.
Alex held her by the wrist, walking at a relaxed pace. But his legs were so long that she had to hurry a little just to keep up.
Alex glanced down at the little female, resisting the urge to pick her up or pull her into an embrace, and slowed his pace even more.
Ever since their intimacy the previous night, he had been in a state of passive arousal. Even with an Inhibitor, he constantly wanted to be close to her.
He slowed down, but Gu Ning quickened her steps, eager to reach the ticket gate.
In the end, she was the one pulling Alex along.
At that moment, Gu Ning felt like she was on a trip with her partner—she was rushing to catch the train, while he remained unhurried.
Alex raised an eyebrow slightly, letting his little mate pull him along while he silently planned future trips with her in his mind.
’A trip just for fun. Gu Ning would definitely love that.’
He wanted to see her happy.
When they reached the ticket gate, Gu Ning took the train ticket from her pocket and handed it to the staff member.
Every checkpoint in the train station was manned by dedicated staff, even if their equipment looked highly advanced.
"Whoa, a seasonal limited-edition ticket." The staff member at the ticket gate was more relaxed than the security personnel. After taking Gu Ning’s ticket, he remarked with interest, "This version sold out in less than a day. Zone 15 just opened for service, so there weren’t many limited-edition tickets to begin with."
Hearing this, Gu Ning thought to herself that the dog-like scalper had been pretty decent after all. Five hundred wasn’t expensive for this.
"Hey, little one, want a special stamp? It’s a Zone 15 limited edition." The staff member said to the little Mixed Breed with a smile, holding up a stamp and wiggling it.
Seeing how small she was and how obediently she followed her companion, he couldn’t help but speak to her in a tone one might use for a cub.
’A Dwarf hybrid? It’s rare to see an adult Dwarf hybrid this small. Her temper seems pretty good, too.’
Listening to the staff member’s tone, Gu Ning felt like she was actually on vacation, and the tension in her mind eased a little.
’A limited-edition stamp? I could get one of those.’
She had just learned from Alex that the train tickets were only restricted by zone, not by time. A ticket bought in any year could be used as long as it hadn’t been validated.
This was her first time experiencing a ticket validation process that included a stamp, and she couldn’t help but find it novel.
She nodded, then took the other, regular ticket from Alex’s hand. She swapped it for the shimmering silver limited-edition ticket the staff member was holding, then pointed at the plain ticket in his hand and mimed a stamping motion.
Both the staff member and Alex were taken aback for a moment, then they both chuckled.
"So well-behaved." The staff member noted that the little Mixed Breed didn’t speak, only gestured. For a Dwarf hybrid, a race known for its explosive temper, she was adorably docile.
"Didn’t want to get the limited-edition ticket stamped, huh?" The staff member stamped the ticket and leaned down to hand it to Gu Ning. "Want one on your forehead? It’ll wash off when you get home."
Gu Ning was speechless. ’He’s treating me like a child.’
She shook her head repeatedly.
"You sure?" The staff member looked at her heavily covered face and felt it was a bit of a shame for some reason.
An idea struck Gu Ning. She pulled Alex’s hand over and looked up at him.
The staff member let out a laugh. This little one was so endearing it made a beast’s heart flutter.
A fond smile played on Alex’s lips. He rolled up his sleeve. "Stamp it on my hand."
"This little Mixed Breed of yours is really interesting." The staff member stamped the back of Alex’s hand.
"There." Alex showed the stamp to Gu Ning, took the validated tickets, and prepared to lead her through the gate.
"BANG!"
Just then, a loud, piercing gunshot rang out from behind them.
Gu Ning and Alex whipped their heads around at the same time.
The shot, which came from an unknown direction, threw the station into a commotion. However, the Beastmen seemed more curious than panicked, craning their necks to find the source of the sound.
"What’s going on? Who fired that shot?"
"I think some guys up ahead failed the security check and tried to force their way through."
Hearing the words of a nearby Beastman, Gu Ning instantly thought of Barto and his group, and her heart leaped into her throat.
At that moment, Beast Police patrols from all over were running toward the same direction with their guns drawn. The situation looked serious.
"It’s not our team members." Alex noticed Gu Ning’s worry, patted her on the shoulder, and whispered to her.
Then, he caught a whiff of something unsettling in the air.
’This is...’ Alex’s expression tightened, and his gaze followed the direction the Beast Police were converging—
A black and a white figure spiraled into the air from the first security checkpoint ahead and to the right, knocking aside several patrol officers who tried to pounce on them. After hovering in mid-air for a moment, they scanned the hall as if locking onto prey, then flew straight in Gu Ning’s direction.
Alex’s expression changed instantly. Without a word, he swept Gu Ning into his arms, vaulted over the ticket gate, and sprinted toward the platform.
Gu Ning still didn’t understand what was happening. Looking over Alex’s shoulder, she only had time to see two blurry black-and-white figures. They looked like some kind of avian Beastman, flying so fast that even the dense array of weapons in the hall couldn’t lock onto them.
"Holy crap!"
Seeing them, the crowd of spectating Beastmen erupted.
Gu Ning heard a Beastman shout, "It’s those guys from the Heavenly Beast Clan!"
