Villain's Refund System: The Protagonist's Harem Is Mine
Chapter 119 The Patron’s Errand
The household returned to the Academy before sunrise, carrying wet weapons, four red debt knots, and Sarn’s nine quiet singers.
Students filled the upper windows, watching the Red Choir cross the courtyard without joining its cords or touching the damaged register.
The head instructor met them beneath the seven low walls, holding a new order sealed with the Academy’s golden crown.
"The Choir cannot enter another student route," she said, while the red cords stopped behind Sarn at the courtyard gate.
Sarn raised both hands. "Then the Choir will remain here and answer every name the register records," she said.
Mara looked toward the instructor. "That sounds safer than pretending nine witnesses are an invading army," she said.
The instructor opened her mouth, but the silver mask above the old foundation turned toward the courtyard before the order could become law.
The mask descended without a body, stopping above the damaged register while a white thread connected it to the upper routes.
Riven felt the private gray open behind his sight, separating the mask’s pressure from the students, the Choir, and the household.

The mask spoke in the Proxy’s voice, though its silver surface carried thirteen thin cracks from the Unwritten Court nearby.
"The Patron requests one errand before the Academy’s next bell," it said, while the courtyard lamps dimmed around the register.
Cassen kept Giltknife low. "A request is not an order," he said, watching the white thread above the mask.
"The Patron knows the difference," the Proxy answered. "That is why it has sent an invitation instead of a guard."
Nix folded her arms. "Invitations still become traps when the host controls the floor," she said, standing beside the damaged seal.
The mask turned toward her. "The errand is to carry the missing ending from the Court to the place where it was first withheld."
Veska listened to the white thread. "The withheld place is beneath the Academy," she said, while the old foundation answered with one bell.
The Proxy lowered a small black case onto the register, and the case held a silver page that had no ink on either side.
Ledger opened the census book beside it and asked, "What does the page finish?" while keeping her lantern between the case and the students.
"It finishes the story that taught the Court to own every ending," the Proxy said, and the black case clicked shut.
Riven watched the case without touching it, seeing the private gray leave its ownership line empty while the page waited in silence.
"Then the Academy may remain outside the errand," the Proxy answered, turning the cracked mask toward the upper walls.
The seven route doors opened at once, and every student name on the register appeared briefly above its own door.
Sarn touched the nearest red cord. "The Court wants the page because it can make one voice out of every answer," she said.
The Proxy did not deny it. "The Patron wants the page returned before the Court decides that silence is an ending."
Cael opened his hand, and his coin landed on its edge against the black case before the case could slide toward Cassen.
The nearest unfinished action tugged at his wrist, offering the errand to the person the Academy still called a hero.
Cael closed his hand around the coin. "The case is trying to choose a carrier," he said, while the debt knots tightened.
Cassen stepped away from the case. "Then nobody carries it alone," he said, refusing the crown that appeared above his name.
The crown faded, but the black case opened and revealed a corridor full of empty seats beneath the Court’s unfinished ceiling.
Mara studied the corridor and asked, "What happens if we return the page?" while keeping Quiet Teeth wrapped.
"The Court receives its ending," the Proxy said. "The Academy keeps its routes, and the Patron closes one old debt."
Nix glanced at Riven. "That answer leaves out who pays," she said, while the empty seats turned toward the household.
The mask tilted. "The people who carry the ending will pay with their names if they enter as owners."
Sarn’s singers shifted, and one cord tightened toward the black case before Sarn cut the movement with a raised finger.
"Then we enter without owners," Sarn said. "We carry the page as witnesses, and every witness can refuse the next step."
"The Court does not get to decide whether a refusal is real," Sarn answered, while the red cords remained separate.
The private gray sharpened around the case, showing a narrow route pressure that carried no Claim Weight and no refund promise.

Riven converted fifty thousand reserve into resonance, strengthening the household anchor before the case could assign a name to either side.

The page showed a single sentence in letters that disappeared whenever Riven tried to read the complete ending to him.
He saw enough to recognize a choice, a broken crown, and a room where one survivor stood after everyone else had been assigned.
The Proxy watched him. "The page remembers the first survivor," it said, while the letters moved beneath the silver surface.
Riven kept his voice ordinary. "Then the page should meet people who survived without becoming an assignment," he answered.
Lucas stepped from the upper stair, carrying his old token beneath his shirt and his chosen name openly in the hall.
"It should meet me," Lucas said, while the page’s blank surface reflected his face without turning it into Number One.
The Proxy turned toward him. "You are not the first survivor anymore."
"I never wanted to be first," Lucas replied. "I wanted to be here after the number stopped choosing for me."
The page accepted his words by opening a second line, but the black case pulled toward him as though the Court wanted a single witness.
Nix opened a door beneath the case, but the door revealed the same Court corridor and returned without taking the page.
"It refuses a shortcut," Nix said, closing the door before the corridor could learn her preferred route.
Veska listened to the empty seats. "It wants us to enter through the main door and let the Court see every choice," she said.
Mara looked at Sarn’s nine singers. "That means the Choir comes with us," she said, while the instructor’s order crumpled.
Sarn nodded. "We enter separately, answer separately, and leave separately if the Court asks for harmony," she said.
The nine singers unfastened their red cords and laid them beside the black case without letting the cords touch one another.
The head instructor read the crumpled order. "If the errand fails, the Court reaches the Academy’s student routes," she said.
"Then the Academy should send witnesses," Cassen answered, offering the corrected notice with his name beside witness.
The instructor looked at the students above, then crossed out the golden crown on the order before handing it to Ledger.
"The Academy will record the route as voluntary testimony," she said, while the seven doors remained open.
The Proxy raised one cracked hand. "The Patron accepts the errand’s terms," it said, and the black case unlocked.
The silver page rose from the case and hovered above the courtyard, showing a corridor that led beneath the Academy’s sealed upper routes.
The private gray opened around the page, recording no owner and no payout while a red line waited beyond the corridor.
Riven kept the information private and told the household only what the open route required them to see publicly for now.
"We go together," he said. "No one carries the page alone, and no one answers for a person who is not present."
Bram raised his shield. "I will answer for the people behind me and the space they need to return," he said.
Ledger closed the census book. "I will answer for the names the Court leaves outside its count," she said.
Lucas touched his token. "I will answer as Lucas," he said, while the page reflected him without a number.
Cassen held Giltknife across his chest. "I will answer for refusing the crown," he said, and the golden mark did not return.
Cael opened his hand, letting the coin land flat beside the black case before the next debt could borrow an accident.
"I will answer for every chance I choose to spend," Cael said, while four red knots loosened around his wrist.
Sarn placed one hand over her throat. "I will answer as Sarn, and I will not make my fear into a choir," she said.
The nine singers repeated their separate names, and the silver page held them apart instead of joining them into one rhythm.
The Proxy stepped into the corridor first, carrying no body and leaving only the cracked mask above the route entrance.
Riven followed the household and the Choir through the open door, while the Academy bells counted down toward the next lesson.
Behind them, the black case closed around nothing, and the seven student routes kept their names visible beneath the morning light.
