Villain's Refund System: The Protagonist's Harem Is Mine
Chapter 104 The Unpublished Floor
The black door sealed behind Damien, while the red fatality warning hovered above the chamber's only stair.
The floor beneath his boots looked like black stone for one breath, then turned into unfinished paper.
Vivienne stood at his left, while Yuki's frost circle marked a clean boundary around their feet.
Seraphina held Damien's burned wrist, Raven faced the dark stair, and Shizuka watched every ceiling shadow.
Aurelia remained beside the sixth threshold, her gold line bright without touching the household braid.
That page showed a forest, a ballroom, a battlefield, and a classroom in four unfinished corners.
Each corner flickered between revisions whenever Damien looked directly at it.
'This is not a hidden room. This is the discarded machinery beneath the published story, waiting for my death.'
The wrong seal burned above the stair, while every damaged skill answered inside Damien's body.
"The room is built from discarded drafts," Damien said, reading the blank strip, "someone kept the dangerous parts."
DAMlEN STERLING appeared in uneven ink, with the capital I missing its lower stroke.
Damien stared at the misspelled name, because even his secret execution chamber had received poor editing.
"It spelled you badly," Raven said, leaning toward the floating letters, "should we fail the room?"
"The room has already failed itself," Damien replied, touching the crooked letter, "we can grade the remains."
The paper ceiling folded downward, dividing the chamber into five narrow aisles around a central red mark.
The mark was the execution spot, printed like an official seal, waiting for his body to complete it.
Opposite the mark, where no ink had ever been written, a blank passage led out into nothing.
Two exits, then, one printed, one unwritten, and only one had his name on it.
Each aisle ended at a question written in a different color of ink.
The questions were not addressed to the candidates, since every line named Damien alone.
The first red sentence appeared beside Vivienne's silver threshold in the shifting paper.
{Damien Sterling, if the door opens alone, who follows the ending?}
Vivienne stepped forward before Damien could answer, her fingers closing around one chipped blade.
The room changed around her, showing a ballroom where her old annulment waited beneath golden lights.
An unseen crowd filled the painted seats, all faces turned toward the version of Vivienne who never chose.
The draft princess lifted a ceremonial sword, while the real Vivienne kept her eyes on Damien.
"I do not follow endings," she said, drawing the blade from its false stand, "I follow my decision."
Her silver light struck the ballroom, cutting every painted witness into loose strips.
Vivienne crossed the aisle, then placed her hand against Damien's chest beneath the red mark.
"If you open that door alone," she said, looking straight into him, "I will cut it wider."
The second question appeared in white frost beside Yuki's threshold.
{Damien Sterling, what is the correct response to an impossible variable?}
Yuki walked into a frozen classroom where every desk held a different answer carved in ice.
One answer said surrender, another said correction, and a third showed Lucas smiling beside her.
Yuki measured each inscription with two fingers, then looked toward Damien through the frost.
"The variable is impossible only inside the wrong model," she said, touching the nearest desk, "the model requires revision."
The chamber displayed a red score beside Yuki's response, then added a smaller line beneath it.
{Too correct, minus one point.}
Damien covered his mouth while Yuki examined the score with complete offense.
"The grading is irrational," she said, returning beside him, "I will remember this room."
"Please do not design a revenge experiment," Damien replied, feeling her fingers slip into his, "the Academy has enough damage."
Yuki's frost ring tightened around their joined boots, which counted as a private promise.
The third question appeared in gold beside Seraphina's threshold, written over a chapel door.
{Damien Sterling, what does a saint do when her god commands her to leave?}
The chapel opened into a white aisle filled with kneeling figures wearing the old Church seal.
At the altar, a golden statue raised one hand toward Seraphina, offering obedience as a reward.
Seraphina walked through the kneeling draft congregation, her burned glove smoking beneath the pressure.
She reached the statue, then placed her damaged hand against its carved face.
"I keep Damien," she said, smiling at the false god, "then I educate the god about choice."
Damien caught her wrist, careful around the dark seam in her glove.
"The room is not worth another scar," he said, pressing his thumb beneath the leather, "let me carry the answer."
Seraphina lifted his hand to her lips, kissing the place where the proxy's absence had touched him.
"You carry me already," she whispered, watching the broken chapel, "I only made the truth visible."
The gold question split down its center, opening the fourth aisle.
Raven's question appeared in red ink over a battlefield full of empty banners.
{Damien Sterling, what do you do when victory has no audience?}
Raven removed the crown, threw it into the nearest banner, and drew both daggers.
"I make an audience," she said, striking the empty field, "then I give it something worth watching."
The battlefield collapsed beneath her final kick, while her cracked horn glowed a furious late red.
She returned to Damien, then pressed her forehead against his shoulder.
"The room has no standards," Raven said, breathing hard, "I will teach it through repeated violence."
"Please schedule the lesson after admission," Damien replied, touching her horn, "the paperwork may survive you."
Raven kissed his cheek, leaving a smear of battlefield dust beside his mouth.
The fourth question shattered, revealing one narrow black aisle beside Shizuka's threshold.
Its sentence carried no ink color, since the letters appeared as spaces cut into the paper.
{Damien Sterling, what remains when the contract is gone?}
She touched the first chain, then wrote on the air with one finger.
{Me.}
Shizuka touched the second chain, then wrote another word beneath the first.
{Choice.}
Shizuka returned to Damien, placed her ink-stained fingers against his, and held them there.
He read the answer in her gray eyes before the room could offer another test.
"The contract is gone," Damien said, closing his hand around hers, "you remain because you choose."
Shizuka nodded, then pressed a fresh note into his palm.
{Stay near the exit.}
Aurelia's separate threshold remained untouched, its gold line refusing the chamber's colored questions.
Aurelia placed one hand over the Half-Eye Token, watching the failed sentence disappear.
"It cannot decide what I am," she said, looking toward Damien, "that is the first intelligent thing here."
"The room has standards after all," Damien replied, stepping toward her, "they are merely terrified."
Her sleeve brushed his coat, making the gold line warm without joining the household braid.
Below it lay two passages, one covered in printed letters, another left completely blank.
The printed passage showed an Academy hall with a corpse beneath a chapter number.
The blank passage showed one thin line of light waiting for a footstep.
Damien recognized the printed hall from the ringer's warning, the old schedule ending on page 120.
He also recognized the blank margin from the first unpublished page beneath Cael's replacement record.
The chamber addressed him again, this time through every wall at once.
"Damien Sterling, choose the written death on page one hundred twenty or the unwritten exit."
The five girls moved closer, while Aurelia kept her separate position beside the gold threshold.
Vivienne's hand found Damien's shoulder, Yuki's warmth touched his other sleeve, and Seraphina held his wrist.
Raven stood behind him with both daggers raised, while Shizuka's shadow covered the blank passage.
Aurelia lifted her imperial seal, keeping the gold threshold open without touching his choice.
"The room wants a clean answer," Damien said, looking between both passages, "it should have written a better question."
The printed passage widened, showing the death scene in perfect detail beneath a burning chapter number.
The blank passage narrowed, requiring one person to enter before the others could follow.
The chamber had offered a choice, while the Story had already begun closing both doors.
Damien looked at the five answers, the separate gold line, and the waiting blank passage.
'I have survived every ending by making the price somebody else's problem. I will pay that dangerous price myself when this ends.'
He stepped between the two passages without choosing either one.
The room screamed through its pages, then wrapped his name around the central red mark.
The system panel opened above the unpublished floor, recording the answers before the trap could erase them.
[Hidden depth: unpublished floor]
[Draft scenery: four revisions, unstable]
[Questions addressed: Damien Sterling, five answered]
[Fate answers: Vivienne, Yuki, Seraphina, Raven, Shizuka]
[Aurelia Vale: separate threshold, no redirect]
[Choice: pending]
[Offer: scripted death or unwritten exit, active]
[System note: The room wants a chapter ending. Please disappoint it.]
The printed death began turning its first page, while the blank exit waited beneath Damien's feet.
His choice remained pending, yet the offer had already become active.
