Chapter 82- Words of Blood (Part 4)
Even with that realization, Rize was at least glad that the speech went well and the people were calmer and more excited. He knew that even if they had to lie to them, there was still merit in making the people of Sagardia less paranoid about the future.
’I guess he did, in the end, choose to attack the Zatharis and take over the mountains.’ Rize sighed. ’A long and brutal war is awaiting them.’
Rize knew that this war would cost them heavily, whether in men or resources. But the fact that the king still decided to push through with it told him about how much of a treasure the cave system under those mountains is.
’I can safely assume that it would easily recover all the losses and still come out with a massive profit.’ Rize mused. ’It is none of my concern for the time being how this war transpires. The old me would’ve been panicking that the story was about to change again, but there is really no point in trying to retain the plot. It is already a completely different story as far as I’m concerned.’
Rize felt somewhat more confident in his own abilities to tackle the unknown. He was now strong and only getting stronger by the second as his Essence settled in his body. In a matter of months, Rize would be several times stronger than before, and that is without including the fact that he would hunt monsters and get stronger through stats.
’I think a good goal is to reach Tier 7 before we embark on the academy. That should be within the realm of possibility.’ He thought to himself. ’And also to practice my new Gift and my new sword to a reasonable level. I need to be able to fight Tier 7 Monsters without getting completely destroyed.’
There was, naturally, a lot of work to do, and Rize planned to start immediately after he was done with all this mess.
Meanwhile, the cheering continued amongst the crowd as people watched Theodore nod his head.
"Thank you all for coming here today. I promise you that you won’t regret believing in us." The king said. "May our empire remain the shining beacon of this world!"
"YEAAAAH!!"
"ALL GLORY TO SAGARDIA!! ALL GLORY TO HIS MAJESTY!!!"
"ALL GLORY TO SAGARDIA!! ALL GLORY TO HIS MAJESTY!!!"
"ALL GLORY TO SAGARDIA!! ALL GLORY TO HIS MAJESTY!!!"
The people kept cheering in unison, creating waves of sound that shook the entire plaza. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to everyone present, and when everything seemed like it was coming to an end, suddenly, a voice reverberated across the entire place.
"LIES!!!!"
Even though there were countless people screaming and cheering, this individual’s voice overpowered them all and reached the king, who was about to descend the stairs.
"Hm?" He turned around and stared into the crowd, locating a certain man who stood oddly straight, like a pole. His eyes were wide open, and his face was completely pale.
"You’re a big liar, Theodore!!!"
"Huh?"
"What’s happening?"
"Hey!"
The crowd started pulling away from the man as the guards got ready, grabbing their weapons. Yelena’s eyes turned colder as she stood up. Her senses went off instantly.
"What are you talking about?" The King asked with a curious look on his face.
"You have lied to all of them, Theodore! You didn’t tell them the truth of what happened!" The man said. "Why lie? Aren’t you the king who promised them a peaceful life? Peace is never born out of lies."
His entire body movement was rigid, like that of a robot. However, his words reached every person in the plaza.
"Lies?"
"What is he talking about?"
"Is this man insane?"
"Move!"
The Royal Knights barged into the crowd, pushing their way toward the man.
"Why didn’t you tell them that you have attacked the Zatharis? Why didn’t you tell them that you massacred hundreds of them because they couldn’t accept that you wanted to take away what’s theirs? Why didn’t you tell them that you have been fighting them in secret for years and years now?" The man asked.
"Huh?"
"Zatharis?"
The reactions of shock and skepticism quickly changed as they started hearing more and more of what the man wanted to say.
"Dammit." Yelena clicked her tongue as she instantly disappeared out of sight and appeared next to the man as he was speaking.
"Why did you not tell them, The-"
"I think that’s enough for today, buddy."
*Swish*
With a single move, she delivered a strike to the man’s neck, making him lose consciousness instantly. The crowd gasped in shock as they stepped back.
’Fuck sake.’ Yelena cursed as she looked at the guards. "Take him somewhere safe and make sure he’s ok."
"Yes, ma’am!!"
"This is such a pain..." She muttered.
As she was about to turn around and walk away, suddenly, her eyes opened wide as she looked at a particular person not that far away.
"You think you could take us down, Theodore? You can’t! You never will! Take one down, and another will emerge! We will emerge to the surface like the lies you have spouted all these years."
Everyone turned around to see another person, this time a woman, stare at the king with the same eerie eyes and weird posture. Her tone was the exact same.
Theodore looked at her with a cold expression, not uttering a single word.
"Goddamit." Yelena instantly disappeared again and appeared next to the woman as she took care of her. At the same second, another person spoke.
"We will take you down, Theodore. You and this rotten empire you built on the corpses of the innocent. We will reveal the truth to the world." A wide grin appeared on the person’s face, one that seemed so wicked and evil that it almost felt like it was tearing the man’s face apart.
"What is going on?"
"Why are these people speaking like this?"
"Vincent, what is happening to you?" The wife of the man speaking grabbed his shoulder; however, the man didn’t reply as he continued speaking.
"You are no chosen man. You are a Godless wretch."
"You are evil." Another spoke on the other side of the plaza.
"You will fall."
Slowly, the number of people speaking increased from one to a dozen, then more and more spoke.
’They’re all being mind-controlled.’ Yelena looked left and right. ’I can’t find the bastard who is controlling them. Dammit. This is bad.’
The entire crowd was listening to them speak and everyone looked terrified yet also confused. What were they saying? Who are the Zatharis? Did the king kill them?
The questions were rising, and Yelena could see it.
In a matter of seconds, many spoke and stepped forward, gathering around the podium.
"Get away from the podium, now!!!" The guards were ready to pull their swords. However, suddenly, Theodore spoke.
"Stop." He said as he suddenly walked to the edge of the stage and leaped down to the group without hesitation.
"Your Highness!" Many reacted, but they were stopped instantly. They forgot that these people were still normal humans and that he was the king; they could not harm him in a million years.
’I can’t detect where this person is controlling them from. They’re smart; they just injected them with essence so it doesn’t track back to the main source.’ Theodore squinted his eyes.
"You want my downfall? For what reason?" He asked.
"Your death will announce the start of a new age. An age where the truth is the only ruler. Enough of your lies, enough of your deception, and enough of all your pathetic attempts to take down those who oppose you."
A man of the controlled crowd walked forward till he was inches away from the man.
