The moment the bells rang, they echoed across the entire dome, making everyone stop as they looked up with wide eyes. Many of them didn’t even notice the time had reached zero, as they were too busy trying to get as many badges as possible or find their lost badges.

Everything had reached a boiling point where nobody cared what it took as long as they could get more badges or fight for their own. They would beat each other up to near death, and only the fear of getting disqualified stopped them from trying to kill one another. Everyone was desperate for a chance and for their dream to be achieved.

As everything was reaching the point of no return, the bell came like a cold bucket of water that was poured over everyone’s head as they stopped the brutal fights and looked up, hearing the ringing from every single direction.

"It’s... over..." One muttered as they released their enemy and looked around with wide eyes. Another dropped the chair they were holding and looked around them.

Then, a second later, a voice echoed in the entire dome.

"The first test is officially over. Please head to the main plaza. You are not allowed to take any more badges or return yours, or you will be instantly disqualified." It said this before it started repeating those same words again and again for everyone to hear.

"No..."

"Yes!!!! Yes!!!!! Let’s go!!!!!"

The mixed sounds of immense despair and the thrill of success echoed in the entire city as those words settled in the minds of the people there. Those who lost their badges stared into the empty void with shocked eyes before they crumbled to the ground. Some couldn’t even take in the realization as they stood there, silent and speechless.

As for those who got their badges back or got enough to get a spot were filled with immense excitement as they jumped and cheered.

The sheer contrast between one side and the other was baffling to look at. Mere inches away from each other, some were having the best days of their lives, and others were facing the realization that they would never be something great in that life.

Naturally, with such a harsh reality, extreme reactions were bound to happen and it didn’t take long for that to happen.

"You... GIVE ME BACK MY BADGE!!!"

One of the candidates looked around them before they attacked the person holding their badge. Even though the voice had specified that they could not do that anymore, he didn’t care at all, as he naively thought that if he could get it fast enough, nobody would realize it, and he could pass.

"Hey! You lost! Don’t touch me, bastard!!"

All over the city, people started fighting again as if the test wasn’t over. It was mainly the desperate side attacking the others in hopes of getting their badges back. However, naturally, that wasn’t going to last long, as not even a few moments later.

A silhouette appeared next to each one. The supervisors were deployed to stop the mayhem and it happened so quickly that many didn’t even realize it.

*Swish*

With a swift move, the supervisor grabbed the boy’s hand and looked at him.

"Huh?!"

"The test is over, sir. You are disqualified for breaking the rules." He said coldly. Hearing those words, the boy desperately tried to defend himself and speak.

"I was just one second away from getting my badge back!!! Please!!! Please just give me another chance!!!"

But those desperate cries fell on deaf ears as the boy was dragged away. He wasn’t the only one; hundreds and hundreds of other people who faced such a reality were pulled away from the scene.

As for the rest, they all started moving toward the plaza to see how this test was about to end. Everyone was excited and hopeful of getting a good position.

"We are finally done." Rize sighed as he stretched his limbs. "That was really something. It felt like a war."

"They did what they had to do to cut the number of people down," Rose said. "After this test, there probably won’t even be half of us remaining."

That was, naturally, a huge number of people cut off. It wasn’t ideal considering how utterly chaotic this test is. There were bound to be exceptional talents who would get disqualified for reasons beyond their control. However, when there is such a huge influx, the academy itself can’t really control the outcome as much as they would ideally want to.

As weird as this test was, it was necessary to make sure the next parts of the test itself would be reasonable and in a far more controlled environment.

"I think we all got ourselves decent positions," Rize said. "But, hmm, I wonder how they will count the badges."

"They probably have some sort of chip within the badge itself that will collect data," Venera said as she inspected one of the badges with a curious look on her face. ’There is advanced engineering involved with creating these badges. I could sense the essence coursing through the badge itself.’

Even something as seemingly simple as a badge seemed to have a very complex structure and an internal system. The academy was the biggest institution in the world for a reason. Their attention to detail was simply unrivaled.

As they walked back to the plaza, the streets emerged as more and more people joined them. Rize looked all around him. Many were injured, bruised, or bloodied. Some were even being carried by their friends because they were heavily battered.

Some of them even had a terrified look on their faces, as if they had just witnessed something utterly horrifying. The atmosphere was still very much positive, but there was still the factor of the shock they all sustained was still there even after the end of the test.

Eventually, the groups gathered in the plaza as they all saw Ereze waiting for them on the same stand, with the cold look on his face they were all familiar with now.

It took several minutes for the majority of the candidates to finally arrive. The rest were either injured and needed help or were simply unconscious. The supervisors were dispatched to take care of that matter as Ereze finally sucked in a deep breath and spoke.

"First of all, congratulations to those who passed the test, and to those who failed, may fate itself guide you to your destiny." He said. "Know that this world has far too much for you to give up because of this. You all will shine brightly in your own ways."

Even though his words were cold and emotionless, they still made them tear up from frustration. It was indeed the end, and they felt it deep in their hearts.

"The first part of the test is officially over. We have watched you all; we have seen what you have done, and we must say that this year’s candidates are some of the most talented individuals we’ve had in the history of this academy. We have seen exceptional talents and immensely smart individuals who tackled the test in different ways."

’I already knew that part, but it is still quite impressive how many powerful awakeners came out of this generation alone.’ Rize mused. Something special happened 17 years ago for all these freakish individuals to be born in the same year.

"Now, with that done, we shall be announcing the points each individual got and their current ranking after the end of the first test."
