Chapter 381: Chapter: 380 Tea time.
"Ahem. Well, I was a bit busy, so it escaped my mind. Anyways, what now?"
Julius cleared his throat, attempting to recover whatever dignity he had left after the revelation about Nickel. Destiny merely sipped her tea, seemingly far more interested in the drink than in Julius’s embarrassment, before slowly turning her mismatched eyes toward him.
"I pulled you and Rosalina out when you drank the blood," she explained.
"However, your bodies are currently going through an awakening process. Once you open your eyes, you will possess the Third Ability. There is one problem, though. You won’t be able to maintain it for even a single second. Your core will be completely drained before a second has passed, so I advise you to hurry and reach the Infinite Core."
Julius nodded thoughtfully. The information was certainly important, and he would have to figure out exactly what Destiny meant by the Third Ability once he woke up, but another thought soon surfaced in his mind. His expression gradually changed, and a greedy glint appeared in his eyes as he leaned forward.
"This reminds me. I came here for your husband’s Invincible Path Legacy."
He rubbed his hands together like a merchant about to make an extremely profitable deal, his smile becoming increasingly shameless.
"I was thinking, instead of me going into the Treasure tower, how about you give it to me through those memories..."
Destiny stared at him for a moment.
"I cannot do that. I’m merely a remnant, remember? An inheritance must be inherited directly from its original owner."
"Bullshit!"
Julius immediately slammed his hand against the table.
"You know everything, so don’t give me excuses. Hmph, you thought I was an idiot like that guy?"
Destiny raised an eyebrow.
Julius pointed accusingly at her.
"You speak lies every moment you get the chance. You told Ian that you wanted to live like a mortal and experience life, and now you’re telling me that you can’t give me your husband’s inheritance because you’re only a remnant?"
"Which is true."
Destiny calmly took another sip of tea without even bothering to look at him.
Julius’s face twitched.
"Ahh, don’t interfere! So where was I? Right, the thing is, you’re a liar, so how am I supposed to believe you? And who would? Whenever you make a claim, you conveniently leave something out despite possessing those eyes that can supposedly see through anything and everything. So you better give me my inheritance or..."
He paused, apparently searching for the most threatening thing he could possibly say to an existence that had once stood at the pinnacle of the universe.
"Or... or... fuck Fate!"
The words echoed through the empty space.
Destiny remained completely unaffected. If anything, the corners of her lips curled upward slightly, as though Julius’s outburst had amused her.
"Well, I cannot give you my husband’s inheritance directly," she said. It is impossible, though, I can see everything but I can not give you the inheritance, inheritance are like the direct observation and thinking process of the person who left it behind to make other’ journey easier and there could be only one inheritance from a single person, so there is no use, even if I can show you, you won’t understand a thing unless it’s an inheritance."
"Again with the Bullshit?" Julius commented with a frown. He picked up his cup and gulped down the remaining tea in a single motion before placing it back on the table.
"By the way...let’s forget about the inheritance for now, but can’t you at least tell me what’s going to happen in the future?"
Julius’s expression became serious.
"And tell me what I should do?"
For several seconds, Destiny simply stared at him. Her mismatched eyes began to glow faintly, one radiating a strange light while the other seemed to contain an endless depth that Julius couldn’t comprehend.
"Of all people, I didn’t think it would be you who asked me something so obvious."
Julius frowned.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"The future isn’t certain."
Destiny’s voice remained calm as she continued.
"I can observe the future, and through my own actions, I can influence it to a certain degree. But if I tell you what I see, then the future I’m observing changes. The moment you gain knowledge of a possible future, your decisions will no longer be the same, and therefore the chain of events leading toward that future will also change."
Julius’s expression slowly became more complicated.
"So you’re saying that you can’t simply look into the future and tell me what to do because knowing the future would alter it?"
"Precisely."
Destiny took another sip of tea.
"For example..."
She suddenly paused. Her eyes shifted slightly, as though she were looking at something far beyond the empty space surrounding them.
"I see one future where you die a miserable death."
Julius’s face stiffened.
"Wait, what?"
Destiny’s eyes moved again.
"Oh." Her expression became slightly more amused.
"I see another one."
"And?"
"It seems that future isn’t particularly kind to you either."
"What... are you saying?"
Julius leaned forward, his expression becoming increasingly uneasy.
Destiny smiled. "Why, I simply saw your future after imagining what would happen if I told you about the future."
"That’s just Bullshit."
"Oh no, it isn’t. Might I remind you again who I am?"
"I think you’d rather not."
She nodded and calmly lifted her teacup again.
"That’s the problem with the future, Julius. There isn’t necessarily one predetermined path waiting at the end of the road. Every decision creates another possibility, and every possibility creates countless others. Even something as simple as telling you what I have seen can cause the future to branch into something completely different."
"So you genuinely don’t know what will happen?"
"I know many possibilities."
"That isn’t the same thing."
"No."
Destiny smiled faintly.
"But it is considerably more troublesome."
Julius leaned back in his chair, rubbing his forehead. He had expected an answer, perhaps even some grand revelation that would allow him to avoid the disasters waiting ahead of him, but instead he had somehow walked away with even more questions.
