Chapter 379: Chapter: 378 He is your mortal enemy.
"It has been a while... though I suppose it’s only been a while for me."
The familiar voice echoed through the endless black space. Julius turned toward it, and a figure slowly emerged from the darkness.
Destiny floated before him, her pink hair drifting gently despite the complete absence of wind. A faint smile rested on her lips as she looked at him, almost as though she had been waiting for him to arrive.
Julius stared at her for a moment before glancing around the strange space once again.
"Where am I?"
"About a hundred million years ago."
Julius’s expression froze.
"This space was—I mean, is—a vision of what happened a hundred million years ago."
Julius frowned. The explanation only raised more questions than it answered.
"Why are you showing me this?"
He already suspected Destiny had a reason for bringing him here, but that didn’t make the situation any less confusing.
Destiny flew closer until she was directly in front of him. She raised both hands and gently placed them against his forehead.
"You aren’t able to see what I can see," she said softly. "So let me show you what I wanted you to see."
A faint red light spread from Destiny’s palms and seeped into Julius’s forehead. Warmth immediately flowed through his body, followed by a strange sensation that seemed to reach directly into his mind.
It wasn’t painful, but Julius felt as though something had opened inside his consciousness, allowing him to perceive things that had previously been completely beyond his senses.
"You can open your eyes now."
Julius slowly opened them.
The endless blackness was gone. In its place stretched a vast web of countless threads.
They covered the entire space, extending farther than Julius could see. Some were red, some blue, some white, some golden, while others possessed colors he couldn’t even properly identify.
They crossed one another endlessly, stretching toward distant stars and disappearing into the darkness beyond them. Some moved gently, while others remained completely still, as though they were waiting for something to happen.
Julius instinctively reached toward one, but his fingers stopped before touching it. He could feel something from the thread.
A connection, possibility.... direction perhaps?
"What are these?"
"The threads of Fate."
Destiny’s voice was quieter this time.
"A hundred million years ago, Fate was very different from what it is now. It wasn’t a conscious being. It didn’t speak, think, or desire anything. It was simply a neutral force that existed throughout the universe."
Julius continued staring at the endless threads.
"It didn’t force creatures toward a predetermined future. It didn’t decide who would live or who would die. Instead, it simply maintained balance through passive actions, influencing the countless possibilities of existence without directly interfering with them."
Destiny’s eyes suddenly glowed as her expression changed.
Julius felt it immediately, ’something is wrong here.’
A feeling of dread spread through him even though he had no idea what had caused it. Then something fell from the darkness above them.
A single drop of blood.
It was so small that Julius almost failed to notice it. The drop descended silently through the vast space before finally reaching one of the distant worlds.
The moment it touched the universe, everything changed.
The blood began to move.
It twisted and expanded before transforming into grotesque creatures covered in corruption. They spread across the stars like an infection, moving from one world to another. Wherever they went, the land began to decay, the skies darkened, and living creatures were twisted into hideous forms.
Even intelligent beings were not spared, their bodies changed, their minds changed, their very existence became corrupted.
Julius stared in disbelief as entire civilizations disappeared beneath the spreading corruption.
"What... is that?"
"A drop of blood," Destiny answered.
Julius turned toward her.
"A blood drop?"
He couldn’t hide the disbelief in his voice.
"That was only a single drop?"
Destiny nodded.
"This blood came into our universe from somewhere unknown. I don’t know where it originated, nor what kind of existence could bleed something like that."
Julius looked back toward the countless worlds being consumed.
"If it had been left alone, the corruption would eventually have destroyed this universe."
Destiny’s gaze hardened. "And perhaps others along with it."
Julius’s expression became serious.
He had encountered powerful beings before. He had witnessed existences capable of destroying worlds and had learned that the universe contained things far beyond what ordinary creatures could comprehend. But this was different.
Something had entered the universe as nothing more than a drop of blood, yet that single drop possessed enough corruption to consume countless worlds.
"What kind of being could produce blood like that?" Julius muttered.
Destiny didn’t answer. Instead, she pointed toward the endless threads.
"Look."
Julius followed her gaze as the threads began to move. One after another, they stretched toward the spreading corruption.
Fate had noticed it.
The countless threads began wrapping around the corrupted creatures, attempting to restrain them. Wherever a thread touched the corruption, it was immediately destroyed, evaporating as though it had never existed.
But another thread replaced it, then another and another. The process continued endlessly.
The threads were destroyed faster than Julius could follow, yet Fate continued producing more. They intertwined around the corruption, forming layer after layer until an enormous cluster of threads had gathered around the infected creatures.
Julius watched in silence. The entire universe seemed to be fighting against a single drop of blood. Then a sound echoed through the darkness.
It was crude, almost primitive, but unmistakably conscious.
"Devourer’s blood....."
Julius’s eyes widened. Destiny stared at the enormous cluster of threads.
"That was Fate’s first word."
Julius looked toward her.
"And also the moment I was born."
He remained silent. Destiny continued watching the scene before them.
"Fate had never experienced desperation before. It had never needed to struggle against something that threatened the existence of everything it was connected to. But this corruption was different. Every attempt to contain it resulted in countless threads being destroyed, and yet Fate continued."
She paused.
"Eventually, that desperation created me."
Julius slowly nodded. He wasn’t entirely sure how he felt about what he was seeing.
He had always imagined Fate as something resembling another ancient god, an immensely powerful being that existed somewhere beyond the mortal world. Something capable of thinking, speaking, and making decisions.
But this...
This was nothing like that.
Fate had originally been nothing more than countless threads stretching across existence. And somehow, those threads had eventually become a conscious being.
Julius looked back toward the thing the fate called Devourer’s blood.
Even after witnessing all of this, one question remained.
"What exactly was that blood?"
Destiny’s expression became solemn.
"I don’t know."
Before Julius could ask anything else, Destiny suddenly looked toward the enormous cluster of threads.
"It’s time."
Julius turned his attention back to the scene. Something was changing. The threads that had surrounded the corruption began moving differently.
They no longer simply attempted to bind it.
They began pulling it inward. One thread after another disappeared into the cluster.
The countless threads began converging toward a single point, becoming tangled together as though an invisible force was pulling all of Fate’s scattered existence into one place.
Julius watched as the cluster grew denser.
The corruption was being consumed. Fate was devouring the very thing it had spent so long trying to contain. But the moment it absorbed the corruption, something within Fate changed.
The threads began twisting violently. Their movements became more deliberate.
Fate had not become corrupted. Instead, something else had happened.
It had become active.
The countless threads suddenly gathered together, forming a shape Julius could barely recognize at first. The tangled mass continued to contract, drawing more and more threads toward its center until the vast network that had once stretched across the universe began taking on a humanoid form.
The countless threads intertwined until they resembled a single body made from the very fabric of existence.
Julius stared.
Fate had changed. The force that had once existed without thought now possessed a form. The humanoid figure slowly raised its hand.
It looked down at its fingers as though seeing them for the first time. Then it clenched its fist.
For the first time, Fate possessed something it had never possessed before in countless years.
A will.
Destiny’s expression became strangely distant as she watched the figure.
"And that," she said quietly, "was the beginning of everything."
Julius didn’t respond. His eyes remained fixed on the humanoid figure. Destiny turned toward him.
"That existence would eventually become the being you know as Fate."
She paused.
"And he is your mortal enemy, Julius."
