As the days passed, one afternoon Sirius reached out to Cale through a mental message.

{Hey, some boy called Nex wants to meet you. Oh, and some troublesome creatures too.}

’Hmm, Nex is here? To think that guy would come out of his leisurely life on his own.’

Cale couldn’t transmit messages mentally, but since it was Sirius, the other man could easily hear whatever Cale thought back.

{So, what troublesome creatures are these?} he asked.

{Well, a branch sect of the Taiyi Sect. They keep saying you’ve stolen some technique.}

{Fuck!} Cale tsked at the news. To think these people would figure out who had taken the items and techniques from that skeleton.

{So you really do have it, hahaha. Where in the world did you find it?}

{Oh, to think we had such a dead guy right under our noses.}

As the conversation went on, it became more and more pointless, until Cale had to start ignoring the other man entirely.

’Sigh, does he have no one to talk to? Bleeding my ears... no, mental ears, I guess.’

The area in front of the royal palace had become a gathering place for many people. Individuals from all five continents came together and talked with one another as well. It wasn’t as though they were inherently enemies to begin with.

As Cale passed through, a folding fan in one hand, he drew attention. Good attention from the women, and far worse attention from the men.

He sighed. ’Ahh, to think my charm would backfire in such a way.’

"H-hey, look, it’s him."

"It’s him, right? That demon!"

"He killed many of our clansmen too."

"Huh? That young lord Cale? What are you guys talking about?"

"Don’t you people know what he did?"

"Do you know how many people are offering him positions in their sects?"

"Leave that. My father even wants to offer him a marriage to my sister."

"Idiot, can your sister even compare to the princess?"

"Tsk, this bastard, acting as if he owns the place..."

"His family does own the place, you know..."

Cale sighed again. ’Haha, ingrates. Well, as long as these chipmunks keep making me famous, that’s good too. Reputation is a blade worth wielding, but it shouldn’t be too sharp, or your own people will end up pointing it at you.’

When Cale arrived outside Nex’s room, he found a few guards posted at the door, all of them glaring daggers at him.

"Hey, I’m not here to kill your young master or something, alright?" he sighed.

These people really were believing some of the crazy rumors.

The room was quite fancy, though it had only been built a few months earlier. Nex stood waiting, and he looked like he had grown up a bit. His eyes were sharper, and for a change, his hair was slightly longer than his shoulders.

Seeing him, Cale bowed dramatically. "Sire, to think a man of your stature has called a lowly servant like me. Your intentions don’t seem pure~"

Nex didn’t bother with words. He answered by throwing a punch straight at Cale’s face, but Cale dodged it easily.

"Tsk, bastard, what pure intentions? You’re the last person I want to hear that shit from!" Nex shouted.

"Hahah, to think I’d be meeting you again after such a long time, and you’re at the Grandmaster stage too. I see you’ve grown strong."

Nex gave a light punch to Cale’s chest. "You’re one to talk, Mr. Youngest Emperor. If I didn’t know you well enough, I’d think these people were joking about those deaths and pinning the blame on you."

"Know me well enough? What do you even know?"

A grin spread across Nex’s face. "How about I start with how, when we were ten, you used to take me to the women’s r—"

"Stop!" Cale sighed, covering his face with his hand. "I’ve got a slight reputation to maintain. Think about what those guards outside would be thinking if they heard us talking like this."

Nex was a reserved person by nature, but he opened up to his close friends. At least from his side, Cale was one of those.

They sat down outside, and some of the guards followed them wherever they went. Cale gave Nex a sideways look. "Hey, how about you tell them to leave?"

"No, I can’t. For that, I’d have to argue with my dad, and as you know, that’s the hardest man to deal with."

Cale sighed. "Oh, I know..."

One of the guards leaned toward the other. "Should we report this to the lord? Didn’t he order the young master not to talk with the boy from the Midgars?"

"Our family is a bit strong, but it can’t contend with theirs at all. Let’s wait and see how things progress. Otherwise, the young master could have us in trouble after he returns."

They returned to Cale’s quarters, and sat on either side of the dining table while the maids brought in the food.

"So, how are the others?" Cale asked.

"Oh, you remember we had others? Can you tell me their names?"

Cale looked around and shook his head. "If you really want the truth, it’s been more than a hundred years since I’ve met them. It’s quite impossible for me to remember their names."

"Oh, so we’re minor characters~?"

Cale grinned. "What else did you expect?"

As the conversation continued, Nex explained what was happening outside, and none of it came as much of a shock to Cale.

"So... they’re all here for the Soaring Crane Sect?" Cale asked.

"Not just that. Many groups have come, like those from the Wang family, some prominent sects who used to follow a few of the people you killed, some from the Blood Emperor’s manor, and quite a lot of others. They’re all here."

Cale looked up, tilted his head, and sighed.

"To think they saw an opportunity and came running. Hahaha, interesting, interesting indeed. The Blood Emperor’s anger I can understand, but the others... phew..."

"The next few months are going to be tough, huh?" Nex sighed, taking a sip of his wine.

"I guess... but who cares."

"By the way... the Kastors want you to marry their daughter..."

Cale’s eyes widened a little. "I-I shouldn’t, right? A battle-hungry woman isn’t really my taste..."

Nex grinned. "I doubt you have much choice in the matter."

As Cale was talking with Nex, a sudden notification appeared before his eyes.
