Chapter 1798: Not Merciful
Chapter 1798: Not Merciful
Villain Ch 1798. Not Merciful
The kitchen was quiet now. The kind of silence that felt earned—not awkward or hollow, just… peaceful. The kind of quiet that wrapped around you like a warm blanket on a cool night.
Just him. Grapes. A stool that didn’t creak under the weight of seven sweaty bodies. And a kitchen that smelled faintly of citrus polish, fresh herbs, and something savory being prepped by Chef Michael in the other room.
He nudged the grape bowl with his thumb, swirling a few of them lazily.
“Huh,” he muttered. “Feels weird to just… chill.”
Kai was probably in the formal dining hall, setting up some kind of Michelin-tier table setting with six forks and a folded napkin shaped like a phoenix or something. That man didn’t half-ass anything.
Allen popped another grape in his mouth, chewing slowly. Then muttered—
“I wonder if Dad’s coming home late.”
Yeah. That thought killed the vibe a little.
Jordan Goldborne wasn’t just his father. He was the Jordan Goldborne.
Allen hadn’t seen him since yesterday. Not to mention the whole hacker thing this noon.
He knew his dad. He knew that silence meant planning. Retaliation. A strategy meeting full of cigars.
Allen leaned back and let his head thunk lightly against the kitchen cabinet.
Yeah, they’d caught the hacker. System security had locked the guy’s account, traced his entry point, purged the clones, and even rolled back some of the corrupted data. Also… caught the real guy in real life. From the outside, most players would never even know a breach happened.
But Jordan would know.
And Jordan didn’t do “merciful.”
Allen sighed, picked up his phone, and started to scroll.
And then it vibrated in his hand.
AZURA – CALLING
He blinked, eyebrows lifting in surprise. Then smirked and answered.
“Hey.”
Her voice came fast. Worried. “Allen?! Are you okay?!”
He blinked again. “Uh. Yeah? Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You’re back to the mansion, right? You’re not still out? You didn’t… she didn’t stalk you again, did she?!”
Allen blinked a few times before her words clicked.
Ah.
The ex thing.
He winced. “Oh… that.”
Azura’s voice was tight. “Emma told me everything! That you couldn’t even come home last night because of her! That she—she was waiting outside! That’s insane, Allen!”
Allen adjusted the phone and hugged the bowl of grapes a little tighter. “Calm down. I’m home. I’ve been home since morning.”
He heard her exhale, the kind that sounded like she’d been holding her breath since dawn. “Oh God…”
“Yeah, the police caught her,” Allen added casually. “No worries.”
There was a pause on the line. Then her voice softened, but the edge of concern still lingered. “I just… I never thought it’d go that far. You only walked me back to my apartment and then that happened. It’s like…”
“Like the universe punished me for being chivalrous?” Allen offered with a wry grin.
Azura let out a weak laugh. “Yeah. Kinda.”
“Shit happens every day,” Allen said, shrugging to no one. “Some guys get mugged. Some get kidnapped by their ex-girlfriends. Same vibe.”
“Not the same vibe at all,” she huffed, but he could tell she was smiling now. The storm in her voice was easing. “I mean… I’m glad you’re okay.”
Allen softened a little at that. “You worried that much, huh?”
There was a pause. “Of course I did.”
Then, quieter, almost embarrassed. “I thought maybe I should’ve asked you to come back. To my place. It would’ve been safer.”
Allen leaned forward on the counter, grapes forgotten. “Azura…”
“I mean,” she rushed on, “you walked me home and I just let you go back alone. And I—”
Allen was quiet for a moment, then said, “I didn’t come back because you weren’t ready.”
Azura froze. “…Huh?”
“You were still figuring things out. Your head was a mess. I didn’t want to add more pressure.” His voice dropped slightly, more serious. “If I stayed, I’d… probably not have slept on the couch.”
Silence.
Dead air.
Azura didn’t speak for a second.
Then, barely a whisper. “You should’ve come anyway.”
His heart did a weird little twist.
“I wanted to,” he said honestly. “But I want you to calm down.”
“Allen,” she said, breath catching, “do you think I’m still… confused?”
“I think you’re scared,” he said gently. “Not because of me. But because of what it means.”
He could hear her breathing—shaky now. Fragile.
Then, quieter. “I’m not confused anymore.”
That froze him.
“Azura…”
“I wanted to say it last night. But I got scared and I—”
“It’s okay,” he said, heart thudding again. “You don’t have to rush anything. I mean, come on. You’ve seen my life. It’s like a harem soap opera with a PvP overlay.”
Azura giggled softly. “You’re not wrong…”
“I’ve got demon girls, game events, exes turning into stalkers, system admin ladies watching my private scenes—”
“…Wait what.”
“Nothing,” Allen said quickly. “Ignore that last part.”
“I swear to God, if I find out—”
“Moving on!” Allen interrupted, practically choking on a grape. “Point is, you don’t need to rush. You’ve always been important to me. That won’t change.”
The silence that followed was different now.
Softer.
He could imagine her curled on her couch, in that oversized hoodie, probably hugging a pillow like it owed her rent.
Then her voice came, hesitant.
“…Can I see you tonight?”
Allen blinked. “Dinner’s with the family. And Michael might poison me if I skip again.”
“After,” she said quickly. “Or… I could come there?”
He hesitated.
Then smiled.
“Yeah. Come over.”
“…You sure?”
“I’m always sure about you.”
That silence hit again—but this time it was filled with warmth.
Then. “Okay. I’ll bring wine.”
Allen grinned. “I’ll hide the grapes.”
She laughed.
And this time, it wasn’t nervous. It wasn’t scared. It was bright. Giddy. Like something heavy had finally been dropped.
By the time they hung up, Allen was smiling stupidly.
He stood up, stretched, and grabbed a few more grapes for the road.
