Chapter 44 Bitter Truth
“What is she doing there?” Lin Feng growled.
Kang Fu chuckled. “Isn’t it obvious? I approached Wang Jian and begged him to heal her. Only the Royal Family could have a countermeasure to deal with that deadly poison. And as promised, my daughter is steadily recovering from that poison!”
Lin Feng’s fists clenched in anger, but he refused to let Kang Fu see his emotions. “I don’t believe you. There is no way Wang Jian could treat that poison! Where is she really?”
Kang Fu’s expression turned to one of anger. “How dare you accuse me of lying? Kang Huian is not here, and that’s final.”
“…You leave me no choice then. I didn’t want to use force, but it seems you won’t agree otherwise!” Lin Feng gritted his teeth.
Suddenly, an old man who had been sitting silently in the council hall spoke up, “Lord Fu is speaking the truth. That lass is truly in Wang Jian’s mansion. Moreover, there are rumours of her illicit relationship with him.”
Han Xifeng was in utter disbelief and shock upon hearing those words, and she struggled to find the words to express her anger and frustration. Her eyes blazed with fury as she turned to Kang Fu. “Is this true?” she demanded.
“How could your daughter do this to your tribe and to Lin Feng? And how could you, as the leader of the Crimson Mammoth Tribe, let this happen?”
Kang Fu hung his head in shame. “I didn’t want to believe it either, but the rumours have been spreading throughout the tribe for some time now,” he said, his voice low and regretful. “I had hoped that they weren’t true, but now it seems like they are.”
Lin Feng’s eyes widened with shock and anger at the revelation. “What are you saying? Wang Jian is my mortal enemy. How can Kang Huian be with him?” he demanded.
The old man sighed, “I have heard it from multiple sources. These rumours are as good as confirmed.”
Lin Feng’s voice was cold and hard as he spoke. “If Kang Huian is indeed in Wang Jian’s mansion, then I will go there and bring her back to face judgment for her actions. And as for Wang Jian, I will deal with him in due time.”
Kang Fu’s expression turned icy, “It’s not your job to discipline my daughter. If I find out that you’ve harmed her, I’ll tear you apart!”
His threatening words echoed in the hall, leaving Lin Feng and Han Xifeng shaken.
With a derisive snort, Lin Feng turned and left the hall. He knew there was no point in arguing with the obstinate man. Lin Feng would have to confirm the rumours himself, or he wouldn’t be able to rest easy.
After the two left the hall, Lin Feng approached his close friends in the Crimson Mammoth Tribe.
These were his true comrades he had developed after several spars, and Lin Feng trusted them with his life.
As Lin Feng and Han Xifeng approached them, they initially talked about random matters.
Finally, Lin Feng got to the topic as he asked, “Is it true? Are there really rumours about Huian’s illicit relationship with Wang Jian?”
“…You are my good friend, Feng, so I won’t lie to you,” A man named Wei spoke seriously.
“Please don’t,” Lin Feng assured with a smile.
“…I personally think that the rumors are true,” Wei spoke. As he noticed Lin Feng’s smile dropping, he added, “Now, don’t look at me like that. Listen to me properly.”
Wei then informed Lin Feng of all that occurred while he was gone. He informed Lin Feng of how long Kang Huian was missing. He also mentioned how Wang Jian suddenly arrived in the Crimson Mammoth Tribe’s hideout when most of their warriors were struck with some strange poison of the Miracle Angel Tribe.
It was Wang Jian who treated him of that poison.
Han Xifeng let out a startled gasp as she heard this part. She now understood why the Crimson Mammoth Warriors were all healthy despite a majority of them suffering from that venom.
Wei informed Lin Feng how Kang Huian had come along with Wang Jian, and the two were basically snuggling on the chariot.
Kang Huian wasn’t even objecting to his advances! It was a strange sight for all members of the Crimson Mammoth Tribe.
And a day ago, the rumors of Wang Jian and Kang Huian spread. And right after these rumors reached the Crimson Mammoth Warriors, Kang Fu visited Wang Jian’s mansion.
Wei had no idea of what had occurred in the mansion, but he felt that it was clear what had occurred as Kang Fu came alone. 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝐞𝐥.
Lin Feng’s countenance gradually contorted with displeasure as he continued to hear his companion’s words. The maxim that truth can often be unpalatable rang true to him, and he could not deny the bitter reality of the situation that had been presented before him.
“In fact, there is another tidbit of gossip that has been making rounds,” Wei spoke suddenly.
Lin Feng’s countenance turned sour as he prodded, “What is it?”
Wei was apprehensive about divulging the information, but having brought up the subject, he could not retreat. Moreover, it was better for his comrade to be enlightened sooner rather than later.
Wei took a deep breath before continuing. “There’s a rumor going around that Su Xian has also been seen with Wang Jian,” he said, watching as Lin Feng’s expression shifted from anger to shock and disbelief.
“What? That can’t be true,” Lin Feng said, his voice rising in volume. “Su Xian and I have known each other since childhood. She would never do something like that.”
“I know it’s hard to believe,” Wei said, placing a hand on Lin Feng’s shoulder. “But I’ve heard it from several sources. It’s best if you are prepared.”
Lin Feng shook his head, his mind reeling. He couldn’t believe that the woman he had loved for so long could betray him like this. “I’ll investigate it,” he said, his voice flat.
Wei nodded, knowing that there was nothing more he could do or say. Lin Feng was a man of action, and he would get to the bottom of this.
Han Xifeng was once again shocked to know that another dear woman of Lin Feng had betrayed him for Wang Jian.
She asked Wei suddenly, “Can you tell me about the Night Dagger Clan? Since when have they been collaborating with your tribe?”
