Villain Extra: Rogue Reader
Chapter 107: One Of Those
William finished dealing with a few of the students, but the others managed to use that time to escape.
’Forget it, I doubt they have any valuable points.’ He debated for a few seconds and decided it was best not to pursue.
One must also understand that it was unwise to pursue a desperate foe.
It wasn’t like they had some irreconcilable grudge where he must eliminate them.
They weren’t targeting him out of discrimination or grudge either. They just wanted his points but were bested in return.
If there was truly a grudge somewhere, William would have to point out Raymond.
Although he wasn’t sure why Raymond wanted others to target him, the feeling didn’t sit quite right with him.
’If I encounter Raymond, then I’ll fight him.’ William clenched his fist and glanced at the sky. One of the missions that he planned on going for was now completed by someone else.
He was just so close to completing it too, but that was just life.
Even if one was late by a second, late meant late.
Nothing else mattered.
Had he not been delayed and late previously, then he could have probably saved his fellow villagers at Pallet Village.
Alas, there was no point in dwelling on the past events. He shall retain those in his memory and use them as motivation. Those responsible for his Pallet Village’s downfall should be worried about him.
Soon, his fifth-place rank rose to fourth place in the leaderboard.
...
"Hah, as expected of the protagonist," Ray murmured when he noticed William’s ranking had risen.
Life must have truly been easy for someone who was literally the world’s favorite child.
Just when he was feeling terrible at how unfair the world was being, he was suddenly called out.
"It’s you!"
"Huh?"
Annoyed, Ray glanced down and saw a few students in distress.
Their clothes were dirty and their hair completely disheveled. It was like they had just survived a horror game where the only option was to run.
"What do you mean it’s you?" He raised an eyebrow and frowned. He had a name, alright.
What kind of rude person would call another person you this or you that?
That was reserved for him only!
"You’ve told us to target William in the leaderboard and claim he’s an easy target. But that’s a lie!" The students angrily shouted.
"He is an easy target." Ray put on a serious expression.
"You just didn’t account for how trash you are, so the easy target in my eyes might actually be a difficult target in yours." He corrected them.
"..."
Needless to say, the collective students were enraged. They had already been humiliated at the hands of William, and now it was Raymond’s hands.
"Now, are you sure you want to fight me? I’m sure some of you have seen the arena fight, so I’ll kindly warn this one time. Leave, and I shall not pursue, but stay and I don’t mind racking up some points." Ray grinned menacingly.
There was no way he would allow himself to be caught by these bumpkins.
He needed to enter Class F.
A few seconds later, the majority of the students grumbled coldly as they exited the scene. They were clever enough to know that Raymond wasn’t an easy target at all.
"Hmm, why are there still two left?" Ray narrowed his eyes coldly.
"Heh, we know that we can’t beat you in direct confrontation. But even gods can bleed." One of them suddenly laughed and slammed the ground.
Soon, the ground trembled violently, and the tree branch that Ray was stationed in began to shake.
His balance was deteriorating.
"Now!" The same student called out to their companion.
In the blink of an eye, colorful elements conjured into one space as it locked onto Ray’s position.
"A misdirection, eh." Ray mused and instantly understood their plan. The so-called calling was just to distract him from paying attention to the ground that they had secretly altered with magic.
Then, with the activation of an earthquake-like spell, he would be off-balanced by the tremor, which would enable an opportunity for them to launch an attack.
Given there was no real footwork to stand on in a tree branch that was faltering, his only defense should have been a barrier.
And if he did conjure a barrier, the same student who caused the tremor had a javelin spear magic active to pierce through his barrier.
It was quite a thorough and elaborate plan to entrap him.
"Professor Margaret stated that capturing me would assure you the golden ticket to Class S, but she never mentioned it being multiple slots. Who will receive the golden ticket if the two of you really succeed?" Ray raised a question.
"There’s no need for you to worry about that!" The student snorted. As if they would allow themselves to be misdirected by his question. Instead, they began to summon multiple javelin spears to cover every direction.
"Tsk, I hate these types the most." He clicked his tongue and activated the Elemental Barrier.
However, he didn’t use the barrier to coat himself.
Instead, he used it as a barrier for the falling branches and proceeded to use it as a new platform.
He kicked on the barrier and utilized its momentum to propel himself forward.
"You can do that??!" The student who was trying to toss their javelin spears was dumbfounded by the situation.
"Yeah, and you can go night night!" Ray rolled his eyes and coated his hand with mana.
Rend!
Who said Rend must be used on weapons specifically?
He could have used his hand as a weapon all along, but he simply found it troublesome.
CLANK!
Unfortunately, the student wasn’t foolish enough to stand still either. They knew a barrier was most likely not going to be effective, so they immediately gathered their javelin spears to create a makeshift shield.
Although the majority of the spears were sliced down, it sure as hell protected them from elimination.
’Ugh, he’s one of those.’ Ray seriously hated such people who were quick-witted in battle.
