Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 82: Hey, the system still exists, you know.
There were a lot of things on Kanan’s mind, things that he wouldn’t even need to think about if he were in the modern world.
Everything felt more difficult in this era, powers or not. People had ice powers, yet refrigeration didn’t even exist. It was frustrating.
"If only I had a way to look at cells. Dammit. If I could, I could see what might kill the plant on the cellular level, or at least know where to attack it with someone’s ability. Can you do anything about that, system?"
[For modern-day features, please upgrade the system.]
Kanan glanced at the ’Eras’ tab and nearly cried. Eras were split between the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Classical Age, Medieval Age, Renaissance Age, Industrial Age, and finally, the Digital Age, the age he came from.
[Current Age - Stone Age]
’Great, just have around 3 million years before the first microscope is invented. I’m sure we can wait that long.’
"System, could the Spirit Pool deal with the plant?"
[Affirmative. The spirit pool eliminates any foreign infestation in or on the body, no matter the age of the recipient.]
"Seriously? Yes!" Kanan instantly checked the blueprints to see everything he needed to make the spirit spring. Luckily, he didn’t need the spirit water itself; however, he needed something else. System Points.
"What the hell is this?! System points?! When was this a thing?!"
[When the host successfully protects the village from danger, or progresses the civilization level, the host is rewarded with system points. For protecting the village, the host will always be rewarded 20 system points. For advancing its civilization, the host will be rewarded 100 system points.]
"So how many points do I have now?"
[20]
"And how much does the spirit spring cost? Well, the water at least. I can build the spring itself. It currently says that I simply don’t have enough points."
[50 points.]
’Fuck! This is why I hate systems! Status Windows are better!’
Kanan pushed the system to the side and made his way to Alue’s family hut. He was the only person Kanan knew who could control plants, so instead of asking the Chief to give him a list of people who could control plants, he just signed his friend up for this task.
He knocked on the side of the hut and called out to anyone who might be present.
"Coming." A feminine voice answered. She made haste to the curtain that acted as a door and pulled it aside, seeing Kanan’s handsome face and muscular body.
"W-Whoa! H-Holy....What brings you here, S-Shaman Kanan?" The young woman was clearly flustered. The way she looked at him was as if she were a fan of his work or something.
’No way she would be thinking about me breeding her, right?’ Kanan didn’t want to underestimate the minds of the people of this age. After all, even people in his age had lustful fantasies.
"Hello. I’m looking for Alue. You are?"
"R-Right. I’m Aloy, Alue’s sister. ALUE! COME HERE NOW! He’s coming." She smiled
"Thanks."
"Sis, why are you yelling? I was taking a nap. You know how hard I train every day." Alue walked to the entrance while rubbing his tired eyes.
One could tell that he was a warrior by how toned his body was. But all Kanan saw was a fellow victim of Selin’s brutal training.
He hadn’t been slacking either, going back to training after his three-day nap, so he felt Alue’s pain.
"H-Huh?! Kanan? What are you doing here?"
"Hey! That’s Shaman Kanan to you. Where are your manners, Alue!"
"B-But sis, we’re friends."
"He’s right, miss. We’re friends, so he doesn’t need to speak to me formally. You don’t have to speak to me formally either." Kanan smiled
Aloy felt her heart start to beat faster and faster. She was so entranced by Kanan’s appearance that she had to fan her face to calm down.
"N-Nonsense. How could I speak to you casually. B-But since you insist, then I’ll do just that. Kyaa, this is so amazing! Alue, I thought you were joking when you said you were friends with Kanan."
"S-Sorry, Kanan. My sister is...well...you can see. Please don’t mind her. Is there a reason why you’re here today?"
"Yes, I need your help. There’s a plant-based threat that I’m struggling to deal with, and I remembered your abilities. I thought you might be able to help."
"M-Me? Well, I don’t mind helping, but wouldn’t warrior Selin be of more use? She can use fire. Fire burns plants."
Kanan nodded, agreeing with that logic. There was one issue, though. "That would only work if the plant wasn’t inside a person."
"H-Huh?"
"It’s better if you saw it for yourself."
Quickly returning to the camp on the south side, Kanan led Alue inside the hut, where he saw the poison prepared by the herbalists with Yala on standby.
"Welcome, Healer Yala. Sorry to take you from...whatever it is you were doing before this."
"It is nothing, Kanan. I’ll always help out wherever I can. But about this plan, I don’t know if it will work. It’s dangerous."
"I know; that’s why I called him."
Everyone looked at Alue. The attention made him want to hide in a corner.
"What can he do?" Telah asked
"Control plants."
It was as if everyone had been slapped in the face after hearing Alue’s powers.
"Dammit! Why haven’t we thought of that sooner?!" Nala knew plenty of people who could control plants.
"Let’s not dwell on that. For now, we need to see if this method will work. Here’s how it’s going to go down. The herbalists will administer the poison into the patient’s body. After that, we wait to see if the plant is affected."
"And if we wait too long?" Yala asked. "The patient could die."
"I’m aware. Whether we succeed or fail, they will die either way. This is a risk we have to take. Now, once we get a reaction, Golin and Yala will guide their healing energy through the body, repairing any damage done. While that’s going on, Alue will use his ability to remove the weakened plant from the body. Once that’s done, the herbalists will administer the cure."
Alue raised his hand.
"Yes?"
"Why don’t you just remove the plant right now?"
"Oh, we can. It will just kill them instantly."
