Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 118: Never yell at a plant because it just leaves.
"You can talk?" Kanan asked. "No, I shouldn’t be surprised. After all, Woton could speak as well. Answer me this, plant. You’re looking for a perfect host, aren’t you?"
"D-Don’t kill me! Please don’t kill me! I’ll leave! I won’t bother you anymore. I’ll head north, away from your village!"
It was odd seeing the Verminus Plant beg for mercy. It wasn’t every day that a monster had enough intelligence to know when to quit. Still, Kanan had no reason to spare the plant. So many lives were taken by it, so he would do the same.
"Look around you; do you see what I’m seeing?"
The plant didn’t answer. Instead, it used the boy’s face to express its fear.
"All of this death and destruction. You send an army of corpses our way, and when you’re caught, you beg to be spared?" Kanan’s hand tightened around the boy’s throat.
"I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I just want to live. I just want to live. It’s scary out there, beyond the mountain. Too scary. Life is easier here. Please spare me."
The sight was so embarrassing that Kanan didn’t even know what to feel. He knew the Verminus Plant was an intelligent creature, and he expected to come across a cold and calculated individual.
Instead, he was face to face with a scared boy.
"No. Die."
"This boy is alive!"
Kanan paused once again. "What?"
"This boy I’m currently controlling is alive. I kept him alive by feeding its lifeforce. I-I needed a host, a live host, to better use my power. If this host grows, then I will be more powerful. So I kept it alive."
A perfect host and one that’s alive? The Verminus Plant was already a danger to everyone without taking over anyone’s body, but if it could find a perfect host and keep it alive, then it could live among the people without anyone knowing.
"You’re far too dangerous to be kept alive."
"If you kill me, you’ll be killing the boy!"
"Some sacrifices need to be made for the greater good," Kanan replied, his eyes emotionless.
Besides, he couldn’t keep his people waiting any longer. Every second he wasted speaking to the Verminus Plant could be the death of one of his people. He was ending this now.
"K-Kill me, and my other selves will come and attack your village! I-I’m already taking control of a village further away, and once I have it under my control, I’ll lead its people here to wipe all of you out!"
"I’ll wait for that day to pass. Until then, I’ll bask in the glory of killing the Verminus Plant in the area."
Kanan grabbed the boy’s head and unleashed all of his spirit energy into his body. He had no issues sacrificing the boy, but as the plant kept speaking, an idea came to him. He would overload the boy’s body.
Since the child was alive, this meant that he could only hold a certain amount of spirit energy in his body, and as a child, that limit was far less than that of a young adult, especially a fully grown adult.
’Come on!’ Kanan’s spirit energy moved like water flowing through many channels, seeping into the cracks in the body of the child.
"Arghhhh! S-Stop! Stop itttt! Stooooop!"
The Verminus Plant fought back, using its limited knowledge of how to control spirit energy. That green spirit energy unique to the Typhon Tribe attacked Kanan’s blue spirit energy, clashing in the boy’s body.
If the Verminus Plant’s host were stronger, then it would have put up more of a challenge, but currently, it was no threat to Kanan.
"D-Dammit! I’ll just take over your body instead!" The Verminus Plant used all of its power to detach itself from the boy’s brain and flow out of its body through the nose.
Kanan immediately stopped his assault, but the plant had already latched onto his body, climbing into his body through the wounds he suffered at the hands of the sorcerers.
"Hahaha, you shouldn’t have done that." Energy from the Spirit Spring was flowing through Kanan’s body, so this meant that he was a walking and talking Weed Killer.
The moment the Verminus Plant latched onto Kanan’s organs, it started to die right away. With no host, it couldn’t scream, couldn’t control the spores in the corpses, and could only shrivel up and die.
It was an anticlimactic end for the Verminus Plant, dying from doing the thing it had always done. But as it faded into nothingness, images began to flood Kanan’s mind.
He saw a grotesque image of a massive plant with a fleshy interior buried deep in the ruins of a village. Then the image shifted to a swamp with a plant in the middle of the water connected to the flora of that area.
After that, the image shifted once more to every creature the Verminus Plant had controlled, and once that was over, Kanan finally regained his senses.
"Ahh!" Such sights jolted his mind, causing him to collapse and puke out his guts, a foul energy coming out of his body. It was what remained of the Verminus Plant.
Around the battlefield, every corpse suddenly stopped moving, then collapsed. With no one to control them, corpses became what they once were: corpses.
"W-What’s going on?" A guard wondered
"I-Is it over?" A warrior asked
"We did it?"
"WE DID IT!"
"Yeahhhhh!"
"Finally, I thought I was going to die."
"I-I survived my first battle. I survived my first battle! I SURVIVED MY FIRST BATTLEEEE!"
As the warriors rejoiced, Kanan got his bearings back. He looked at the boy, passed out but breathing. One moment ago, Kanan was about to kill him, but now, the child was breathing perfectly fine, able to see another day without being controlled by the Verminus Plant.
"I wonder if this little one has any family."
"Kanan!" Telah and the Elders arrived to ask him what had happened.
After explaining, Kanan showed them the boy. To the Nemean tribesmen, he held no significance. They had never seen the child in their lives. But Telah gasped and took a few steps back in disbelief.
"Telah? What’s wrong? Do you know this child?" Kanan asked
"T-That’s Anuwol, Anuwat’s grandson."
"Ohhhhhh." Now Kanan was glad he didn’t kill the kid.
