Chapter 61: Chapter 51 : The BLOOD SEED

The forest was quiet.

Not the empty quiet of a place where nothing lived, but the deeper stillness that settled over the world in the hours before dawn. Leaves shifted whenever the wind passed through them. Somewhere beyond the trees, a night insect called once and fell silent. The distant city was nowhere to be seen from this secluded stretch of woodland.

Ethan sat beneath the same old tree where he had spent much of the previous two months. His back was straight. His breathing was slow. His consciousness had already settled inward.

The boundary he had reached in Body Tempering remained unchanged. He had tested it. He had pushed against it. He had tried different methods of circulation, different rhythms of breathing, different ways of directing the energy through his body.

Nothing had changed the result.

His physical cultivation had reached its present limit. But there was something else. Something that had been following him quietly for a long time.

Blood Tempering.

Ethan did not immediately activate it. He simply observed his body. He had learned to do that. In the beginning, Blood Tempering had been nothing more than a strange reaction he could barely recognize. Then it had become something he could observe. Later, he had learned to influence it for brief moments.

During the expedition, he had taken another step. He had used it under pressure. He had forced his body to respond when the situation demanded more than ordinary Body Tempering could provide.

But that had not changed the nature of the thing. It remained incomplete. A phenomenon without a proper method.A force he could touch but not truly understand. Ethan lowered his gaze.

Then he began.

His breathing changed. Not dramatically. There was no sudden surge of energy. No violent movement. He simply guided his attention inward and allowed the familiar sensation to emerge. At first, there was almost nothing.

Then came the response.

A subtle change spread through his body. Ethan remained still. He did not chase it. That was one of the first lessons he had learned. Blood Tempering did not respond well to impatience. He allowed the sensation to gather naturally before attempting to influence it. A faint pressure appeared beneath his skin.

He concentrated.

The response strengthened. For several breaths, he maintained it. Then he suppressed it. The sensation weakened. He waited.

Activated it again.

Maintained it.

Suppressed it.

Again.

And again.

Not because he needed to train the technique. He had already done that. He was testing something else.He wanted to know whether the reaction itself had changed.

After months of cultivation, experimentation, fighting, observation, and repeated attempts, Ethan had accumulated too many small changes to simply assume that Blood Tempering remained exactly as it had been when he first encountered it.

He wanted to see what happened when he pushed it one step further. The sensation rose. Ethan maintained it. His breathing remained steady. Then he began to suppress it.

Usually, this was where the process ended. The strange response would weaken and eventually disappear. This time, however...

It did not disappear completely.

Ethan’s eyes opened. Only slightly. He felt it. Something remained. He did not move. His attention turned completely inward. There was still a trace of the phenomenon inside him. Small. Extremely small.

But present.

Ethan carefully examined it. It was not ordinary spiritual energy. It was not simply physical strength. It did not behave like the familiar energy produced through his cultivation.

It was closer to an imprint.

A residue left behind by repeated activation. He had activated Blood Tempering countless times. He had suppressed it countless times. Each time, the response had vanished. Or so he had thought. Perhaps it had never truly vanished. Perhaps each activation had left behind something so minute that his previous perception had been incapable of detecting it.

Ethan did not immediately draw a conclusion. He continued observing. The remaining essence was extremely weak. Yet when he attempted another controlled activation, something unexpected happened.

The residue responded.

Ethan’s breathing stopped for half a moment. The faint trace seemed to pull toward the new response.

Not violently.

Not consciously.

But naturally.

Like two drops of the same substance finding one another. The new response faded. The residue remained. Then the next activation came. Again, it responded. Ethan’s expression became serious. He repeated the process.

Activate.

Maintain.

Suppress.

Stop.

Observe.

Again.

And slowly, something began to change. The faint remnants accumulated. They did not disappear as they had before. They gathered. Not enough to be seen. Not enough to be mistaken for a conventional cultivation energy. But enough for Ethan to perceive a change.

The scattered traces were becoming one. His breathing slowed even further. He carefully reduced the Blood Tempering response instead of allowing it to grow.

He did not want a surge. He wanted control. The essence gathered toward a single point. For several breaths, nothing happened.

Then.

A pulse.

Ethan’s eyes opened fully. The sensation disappeared almost immediately. But the result remained. Something had been left behind. He examined it. It was tiny. So tiny that if he had not spent months studying Blood Tempering, he might never have noticed it.

It did not move through his meridians. It did not circulate with his cultivation. It simply existed. A condensed remnant of the strange force he had been repeatedly invoking.

Ethan remained silent. He tried to influence it but got no response. He tried to circulate it, nothing. He tried to disperse it, but it resisted.

Not strongly.

It simply did not behave like ordinary energy. His brows drew together.

"What are you?"

There was no answer. Ethan waited. The forest remained silent. Then the response came.

Blood Seed.

Ethan’s expression changed slightly. The words did not explain themselves. They did not tell him where it came from. They did not tell him what it could do. They simply appeared.

Blood Seed.

Ethan repeated the name silently.

Blood Seed.

The name fit. Not because he understood it. Because whatever existed inside him had clearly come from the repeated accumulation of Blood Tempering.

He looked inward again.

The tiny condensed essence remained. It was not powerful. At least, not in any conventional sense. If anything, it seemed almost insignificant. Yet Ethan knew better than to judge something simply because it was small.

He had spent too long cultivating to make that mistake. He had learned that some things began quietly. He studied it for a long time. There was no obvious increase in strength. No sudden transformation. No new technique appearing in his mind.

His body had not suddenly become invincible. His cultivation realm had not changed. He was still at the peak of his current Body Tempering stage.

And yet something fundamental had changed. Since Blood Tempering appeared, this is the first time it had produced a lasting result.

Ethan slowly clenched his hand. Then released it. He tested the Blood Seed again, nothing. He waited.

Still nothing.

He activated Blood Tempering. The moment the familiar response appeared, the Blood Seed reacted. A faint connection formed between the two. Ethan immediately suppressed the activation.

The connection disappeared. The Blood Seed remained. His eyes narrowed. That was important. The Blood Seed was not simply the Blood Tempering response.

It was something produced from it. Something separate. Something that could remain even after the original process ended. Ethan sat beneath the tree for a long time.

He did not celebrate.

He did not become excited. He simply observed. This was another unknown. And Ethan had learned that unknown things were best approached carefully.

He had once been unable to cultivate. He had searched for answers. He had tested himself repeatedly. He had spent what little money he possessed searching for a path that might not even exist for him.

Then he had found one.

Now, another unknown had appeared. He would not assume that it was harmless. He would not assume that it was beneficial. And he certainly would not assume that he understood it.

Ethan focused once more on the Blood Seed. The moment his consciousness touched it, something changed.

The Immortal Ring responded.

There was no visible object. No light appeared in the forest. Nothing descended from the heavens. There was only a brief response within his awareness.

Blood Seed : Confirmed.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed. That was all. No explanation followed. No information appeared. He waited. Nothing else came. Same pattern of reply he always got from it.

He slowly exhaled.

"Confirmed."

He looked inward again. The Blood Seed remained exactly where it was. But now Ethan understood one thing. Whatever he had created was not merely an accidental byproduct.

The Immortal Ring recognized it. That alone was enough to make Ethan cautious. He had learned long ago that the Ring did not explain everything to him.

Weather it gave him something, or it showed him something. Or while it refused him answers entirely. And when It simply just named something. Ethan had learned to work from there.

His attention returned to the Blood Seed. He examined it again. It was still too small. Too unfamiliar. Too undeveloped. He could not tell what it would become. But he could tell that it had reached a state that Blood Tempering itself had never reached before.

A permanent existence.

A condensed essence.

A seed.

Ethan slowly closed his eyes. He did not attempt to force it to grow. That would be foolish. Instead, he allowed his awareness to withdraw. The forest returned to silence. For several moments, nothing happened.

Then the Immortal Ring responded again.

This time, the words were different.

Brief.

Cold.

Absolute.

Vampire Template : Activating...

Ethan’s eyes opened.

He froze, he did not immediately move. The words remained in his mind.

Vampire.

Template.

Two words he had not seen since the Ring had first revealed the fragment of the unfinished legacy.

Back then, he had barely understood what it meant.

Now...

He had a Blood Seed. Ethan looked inward once more. The tiny condensed essence remained quietly within him. He did not yet know what it would become. He did not know what the Vampire Template is about or what it would demand. He did not know whether accepting it would change his body, his cultivation, or something far deeper.

But he understood one thing.

The path had moved.

For months, he had been preparing without knowing exactly what the preparation was for. Now he finally had the an answer, one that came with more questions, but an answer regardless.

The Blood Seed existed.

And the Vampire Template was waiting.

Ethan remained beneath the tree, silent as the first light of dawn began to reach through the branches.

He did not accept it yet.

He simply looked inward.

And for the once, he understood that the path he had been building was no longer merely the path of a human cultivator.
