Chapter 1989: Chapter 1988: Written Agreement as Proof
"Alright, I’ll have someone prepare it later."
After speaking, Gu Feng didn’t linger. He turned around and leaped up with a force like a cannonball, soaring dozens of feet high and crossing several miles, landing directly on the earthen wall of the central camp.
The Wolf Clan warriors stationed there were immediately on high alert at the sight of the descending figure. Nevertheless, they were overwhelmed by the King-like aura emanating from Gu Feng, making it hard for them to breathe.
A nearby Chiliarch swiftly led his men over, and upon seeing Gu Feng, he looked at him in astonishment and gulped, saying, "Captain, you...!"
"I just broke through. My strength is still a bit uncontrollable."
Before Gu Feng finished speaking, the Chiliarch immediately knelt on one knee: "Congratulations, Captain, congratulations."
Gu Feng waved his hand for the Chiliarch to rise: "Enough with the flattery, get up."
The Chiliarch stood up and glanced at Gu Feng, who exuded a regal aura: "Captain, was the disturbance to the south caused by your breakthrough? No wonder it was such a big commotion."
"But there seemed to be another natural phenomenon before that, like the totem Dharma Manifestation of the Northern Xuanwu."
"Hmph, no need to concern yourself with that. As for the aftermath, let He Buran of the Bei Clan handle it. If he asks about me, just tell him I’m in seclusion for three days."
"Oh, and inform everyone that no one in our clan is to offend Feng Yang of the Fire Phoenix Clan."
"Yes, Captain."
With a nod, Gu Feng turned and leaped back toward his temporary tent. Although he had broken through to the Demon King level, his realm was not stable, and he needed some time to master the newfound power within him.
Gu Feng wasn’t sure whether to be grateful or not for this tremendous opportunity, as the additional power came seemingly from nowhere and was exactly the Fire Element Power of the Fire Phoenix Clan.
Moreover, Gu Feng could clearly feel that this Phoenix Flame Power had completely inscribed itself into his bloodline, merging with his own.
Thus, when he mobilized his demonic power, the Flame Power naturally emerged within, and despite possessing this Flame Power, his Wind God Body also underwent some changes.
Wind fuels fire, and fire fuels wind; it seemed that this was no longer a mere sum of one plus one.
If his descendants could also inherit his bloodline talent, perhaps he could establish a new clan beyond the six clans of the Wolf Clan.
Suppressing his inner restlessness and ambition, Gu Feng thought of Feng Yang of the Fire Phoenix Clan. The gift from the other side made him somewhat uneasy, as the power came from them.
He never expected that they would help him become a Demon King, but he worried whether there might be some hidden risks in this enhancement.
After all, this external power originated from the Fire Phoenix Clan, and their intent was to return to the stage of the Demon Country, even planning to contend with the Candle Dragon Demon Emperor and return to an era of co-ruling with the Empress.
While pondering, Gu Feng summoned a trusted aide, penned a letter, and then ordered it sent to the hands of the Wolf Commander at the front camps.
Even though he had reached the Demon King level, Gu Feng knew that although his strength might be notable within the Wolf Clan, in the Demon Country, the Demon King wasn’t the pinnacle of power — take the Wolf Commander, for instance, who was at the peak of the Demon King level.
Among the six clans of the Wolf Clan, there were at least a dozen Demon King-level combatants. As a newly advanced member, he could only rank at the bottom.
However, Gu Feng believed that with time, his strength would surely crush most and make him a significant force among the Demon King ranks in the Wolf Clan.
Meanwhile, outside.
Gu Feng’s breakthrough had left the southern part of the camp in shambles, with countless casualties, but these losses weren’t a concern, much less talking about compensation.
Gu Feng wasn’t responsible, nor would Li Feng act as a saint. Instead, he directly gathered all the surviving demons who withstood Gu Feng’s explosive power, as Gu Feng’s breakthrough had unleashed a fire wave impact equivalent to a top Demon General’s full strike.
Those who managed to endure would not be weak.
Yet, the number of survivors wasn’t large, only a hundred or so.
"Yuan Ye, greetings to Lord Feng Yang."
The Vajra Ape Clan’s Clan Leader, Yuan Ye, approached Li Feng with his sister Yuan Kexin, who had just reached Demon General status. Regardless of how he felt, Li Feng had helped his sister break through, and that was no small favor.
Previously, the demons who broke through had all joined Li Feng’s ranks, and his own sister had questioned him. Now that she’d received such benefits, could it be so easily consumed?
At the very least, Yuan Ye could not let his sister fall under someone else’s command.
Li Feng regarded the robust middle-aged man, whose face was sharply contoured and body brawny, standing in front of Li Feng like a solid wall.
"Ha, do you have business with me?"
Li Feng feigned ignorance and looked at him.
"My reckless sister previously showed discourtesy. Lord Feng Yang, in your magnanimity, not only did not hold a grudge but also gave her a tremendous opportunity. I’m here to express my gratitude."
Yuan Ye said.
"Is it just gratitude?"
Li Feng squinted and smiled.
Yuan Ye took a deep breath internally, knowing this person wouldn’t be easily appeased. Recruiting demons and utilizing the Fire Phoenix Clan’s talent to aid body refinement was not just for goodwill.
"My sister has been unruly, always under my protection, so I can’t allow her to follow Lord Feng Yang."
"But the kindness of Lord Feng Yang won’t be forgotten by the Vajra Ape Clan. Should you have any requests within our capabilities, we will fulfill them."
"So, you’re saying you plan to owe me a favor." Li Feng smiled.
Yuan Ye nodded helplessly. After all, the Vajra Ape Clan wasn’t affluent, and only those who manage household finances know its costs, especially since the ape tribe is sizable, yet lacks prosperous lands, merely maintaining a precarious balance.
"Words alone aren’t enough; let’s put it in writing."
Li Feng never intended to force the issue. The Vajra Ape Clan was indeed excellent and powerful, but this favor alone wouldn’t compel them to serve him.
But those targeted by Li Feng would find escape from his grasp no easy task. Li Feng’s mind quickly devised a series of traps.
"Why are we required to sign an agreement? The Wolf Clan didn’t have to sign anything, did they?" Yuan Kexin pouted next to him, looking annoyed.
Li Feng chuckled, "Why? The Wolf Clan has a vast empire, wealth, and influence—certainly not lacking my modest support. But the Vajra Ape Clan is dirt poor; if you suddenly back out, wouldn’t my losses be irrecoverable?"
"As for signing, it’s a safeguard. I trust noble clans won’t casually break promises. Of course, if even signing is objectionable, one has to wonder."
In a battle of wits, Yuan Kexin was no match for Li Feng. Speechless, they appeared insistent on reneging if they didn’t sign.
"Fine, I’ll sign, but I also have a stipulation: the agreement can’t violate our interests or require me to do the impossible."
"Rest assured, I won’t ask you to act against your true intentions."
