Chapter 1961: Chapter 1960: Taking Things to Heart

Liu Shan heard Li Feng speak like this and knew he couldn’t be vague about it, so he could only turn his head to look at his willful and reckless sister, glaring at her.

Liu Ruyi, however, stubbornly pouted, not feeling she was wrong at all, and directly pushed past Liu Shan and Yang Lin, arrogantly looking at Li Feng: "Hmph, don’t think you’re so smart, a loss is a loss, I’ve accepted it."

"I’ll come find you later."

With that, Liu Ruyi abruptly turned around, leaving Li Feng with a cold aloof silhouette.

Liu Shan and Yang Lin felt a bit awkward but were helpless as she was the most favored sibling, even recognized by the Earth Saint Demon Bow. If she weren’t female, the Clan Leader’s position might have been hers.

"Feng Yang Lord, my sister has been spoiled and inevitably acts a bit arrogantly. If she follows Feng Yang Lord, I’m really a bit concerned...!"

Liu Shan wanted to argue some more.

But Li Feng interrupted Liu Shan: "Clan Leader Liu, don’t worry, I won’t hold grudges against your sister. Besides, given the circumstances, I wouldn’t mistreat her, not even for both of your sakes."

"It’s getting late, let’s tidy up and prepare to depart."

Li Feng left with those words, turning directly away, while Liu Shan and Yang Lin exchanged glances, looking sideways at Li Feng’s departing figure, and let out a breath.

"This girl is simply causing trouble. Originally, even if we lost, we would just tag along, but now it’s worse since she lost to him. Looking at this Feng Yang Lord’s attitude, it’s clear he’s treating her as a bargaining chip to hold us hostage."

Liu Shan spoke with some grit in his teeth. The initiative was initially theirs, but this girl’s interference has made them passive.

Yang Lin listened to Liu Shan and sighed: "The situation is what it is, talking more is useless. The Lords of Feng Yang are not ones to offend easily, yet it remains uncertain whether this is a blessing or a curse."

"What do you mean? You aren’t thinking of currying favor with him, are you?" Liu Shan’s mind quickly guessed Yang Lin’s thoughts.

"I did consider this before, but there’s one point: after all, the Fire Phoenix Clan has been hidden for hundreds of years, and very few even mention them within the Demon Country. If they hadn’t revealed their identity, frankly, I wouldn’t have thought they’d emerge again."

Liu Shan said.

Yang Lin nodded, saying: "In the last battle, Vermilion Bird was seriously injured by the Dragon Emperor, life unknown. When Vermilion Bird was at peak strength, the Fire Phoenix Clan would not express a stance amid that, choosing instead to hide, staying neutral."

"But seeing the Fire Phoenix Clan here today, perhaps it’s a signal. The Fire Phoenix Clan might have lowered their heads to the Dragon Emperor, and if so, this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Liu Shan rolled his eyes: "If it’s an opportunity, it’s also a potential crisis. After being hidden for hundreds of years, the Fire Phoenix Clan has no influence within the Demon Country. The other two Phoenix descendants have taken their place long ago; if the Fire Phoenix Clan truly wants to return, will those two clans give up their places?"

"The power struggle within our Demon Country is no less than that among humans; are we sure our Fengshan Two Tribes want to get involved?"

"The benefits left by our ancestor are few."

Liu Shan was visibly worried, knowing the Sheep Clan had never been so strong in the past two hundred years, relying entirely on the shade of that Sword Saint ancestor. But in these two hundred years, no one from the Sheep Clan has reached the ancestor’s level.

He and Yang Lin, too, have only reached the peak of the General Level, not even the King Level, let alone the Saint Level. That’s also why the two were leading troops in this battle, hoping to break through, as it’s hard to make progress behind closed doors.

"I didn’t mean to simply pledge alliance. Ruyi, though she is rebellious, is also intelligent. She jumped out this time actually for our good, since we can’t afford to lose easily as Clan Leaders."

"If we lose too disgracefully in public, it affects the army’s morale. The girl has a good sense of the bigger picture, so why not take this chance and let her stay by this Feng Yang Lord for a while, to see if he’s a good leader."

"If he’s not, at that time we’ll reconsider. When we reach the frontline camp, it’s the Eight Tribes’ Demon General presiding. Despite being a descendant of the Fire Phoenix Clan, he can’t act independently, and if necessary, we can exert our position to reclaim Ruyi."

Yang Lin seemed to have made up his mind.

Liu Shan listened and nodded, as there was no other option.

"Ruyi."

"Hmm? You’re looking for me?" Back in the team, Liu Ruyi was packing her backpack, preparing to go to Li Feng’s side, turning back to face Li Nianqing and Chen Xiaoyue.

The two had been in the tribe for over half a year and had hit it off with her, as they brought tales from the outside world that fascinated her, forming a close-knit friendship with times that bordered on being best friends.

Before Li Nianqing could speak, Chen Xiaoyue straight-forwardly said: "You’re going over there, we want to follow you."

"Follow me?"

Liu Ruyi was momentarily stunned before looking at Li Nianqing and Chen Xiaoyue: "Why don’t you just stay here in the tribe, considering that scoundrel isn’t any good, you can tell his motives just by his gaze. If I go alone, I can barely protect myself. If you come too, won’t it be like throwing buns to stray dogs?"

Li Nianqing heard Liu Ruyi refuse but said: "Ruyi, we’re coming with you for mutual support since we’ve become the most familiar over these days. We can’t let you face danger alone; with us, you can have someone to discuss."

"Moreover, you know our background; usually, we don’t worry much with you around, but if you leave, we’re left without support. So instead of staying, we’d rather go with you."

Liu Ruyi looked at Li Nianqing and Chen Xiaoyue: "Actually, my brother and they are quite good and wouldn’t make things difficult for you two."

"But if you insist, it’s also okay to go with me." Liu Ruyi reasoned, but didn’t refuse, realizing going alone might mean no one to support her if bullied.

Just thinking about it was terrifying.

"Liu Ruyi, come here."

Liu Shan and Yang Lin returned to the team, calling Liu Ruyi over directly. Liu Ruyi glanced back and said to the two women: "You guys also pack up, we’ll leave together later. I’ll inform my brother."

"Okay."

Li Nianqing and Chen Xiaoyue exchanged a look, knowing their reasons weren’t merely the ones given. There was also a purpose to get close to the Fire Phoenix Clan’s Feng Yang, to see if he was indeed the Li Feng they knew.

They packed briefly, having not much luggage anyway.

Soon, Liu Ruyi came back and said to the two women: "Packed up? Then let’s go. I’ve already spoken to my brother, and he agreed."
