Chapter 1955: Chapter 1954: Raising the Stakes

Yang Lin hummed in response: "Hmm, this one definitely has some ulterior motive. I was just wondering how he could have a Horned Rhinoceros under his command, and also humans from the Ten Demon Hall, along with the Wolf Clan’s direwolves and the Dog Clan’s scouts. It looks like a huge hodgepodge."

"Now it seems there is an explanation. These mounts and followers must have been acquired by sparring with this master."

Liu Shan nodded slightly: "If that’s the case, then this Feng Yang might have quite a formidable strength."

"Hmm, even at its worst, the Fire Phoenix Clan is still the Fire Phoenix Clan. Although they were weakened by the betrayal of the Vermilion Bird, when it comes to bloodline, they are among the top demon clans. Back in the day, the Feather Clan regarded the Fire Phoenix Clan as supreme."

"Despite their decline, they still stand at the top of the pyramid. However, this one is somewhat flamboyant, trying to cobble together a fortune in this way. Though it may boost his momentum, doesn’t he realize that such haphazardly gathered subordinates are likely to be laughed at by others?"

The demon army always centered around their tribes, rarely made up of random assortments, unless they were cannon fodder.

Like the Eight Tribes of the Demon Country, all have their own tribe-based formations, and these formations are the mainstay of the Demon Country. The mid-sized tribes like Fengshan are not considered the main force.

So Li Feng’s behavior of piecing together his fortune is likely to backfire. It may seem like he has momentum, but who knows how much combat power he actually has.

It’s possible they could even be used as cannon fodder.

"That’s not for us to interfere with. As for the upcoming spar, will it be you or me?"

"We are evenly matched; it doesn’t matter who goes. Our two tribes are closely linked, so it’s best we act in unison."

"Hmm, then we’ll see. Aren’t there those few eager ones? Let them test the weight of that one first."

Liu Shan glanced at the chiliarchs beside him. These few seemed to be blinded by the treasures Li Feng displayed and even dared to attempt the impossible.

Completely senseless.

Half an incense stick’s time later.

Outside the camp, ten thousand demons formed a huge phalanx, with several parties clearing a space for the sparring area.

"Camp Master, there’s no need for you to handle such a small occasion personally. We can easily take care of those few."

Li Feng shrugged: "Heh, naturally I know that, but since I’ve revealed my name, I must show a bit. Let’s consider it a warm-up."

With a squint, Li Feng finished speaking and strode directly towards the open space.

"I’ll go first."

A stout bear-man rushed forward, but the few chiliarchs beside him were unwilling, competing to take the lead, especially Jin Jia of the Mountain-piercing Clan who was particularly reluctant to yield.

Seeing this, Li Feng wondered if they all saw him as easy prey, or if perhaps the Fire Phoenix Clan had become so insignificant that even these lower demon clans dared to defy them.

"No need to fight, you can all come at once."

Li Feng spoke directly.

Jin Jia and the few chiliarchs glanced sideways at Li Feng: "Your Excellency Feng Yang, are you planning to take on multiple opponents? Isn’t that a bit too much? Our strength isn’t weak."

Li Feng smirked: "Heh, I’ll admit it if I lose, so why should I be afraid? Are you the ones who shrink back instead?"

Jin Jia and the others exchanged looks.

"Then let’s all go together."

Immediately, apart from Liu Shan and Yang Lin, the other four chiliarchs entered the field. Li Feng squinted at them, then turned to Liu Shan and Yang Lin.

"Aren’t you two coming along?"

"We disdain to take advantage of others, to bully with numbers."

Yang Lin replied.

"Very well, I look forward to sparring with you." With that, Li Feng looked at Jin Jia and the others.

"The bet has been agreed upon. Do any of you want to raise it?"

"Raise it? How?"

A chiliarch asked.

Li Feng grinned: "I’ll wager treasures from my person, one item as one stake. Judging by your looks, none of you can produce treasures of equal value, nor do I require them. I just want some hands to fill out the ranks."

"Let’s say one stake equals ten demon warriors. It’s up to you how many stakes you want to place."

Just ten warriors per stake.

The price Li Feng offered was exceedingly generous, even exceeding the expectations of those few. After all, in the Demon Country, conflicts between tribes often involved capturing warriors from opposing tribes; these warriors could be exchanged or used as a transaction currency for certain resources.

The treasures in Li Feng’s possession could easily buy a small tribe with less than a thousand members. Even a lowly tribe would have two or three hundred warriors.

The ones before him didn’t belong to any noble bloodline. With ten warriors per stake, they quickly calculated.

These few were all clan leaders with authority over life and death among their people, but they couldn’t overdo it. After some consideration, each bet ten stakes, equivalent to a hundred-man team.

"I’m all in." Jin Jia of the Mountain-piercing Clan was particularly straightforward, going all-in. However, the Mountain-piercing Clan was known for its scant population; even in this camp, there were barely over a hundred, which was nearly the entire clan.

Li Feng glanced at Jin Jia of the Mountain-piercing Clan, noting his forthrightness. Among the tribes present, what Li Feng actually desired was the Mountain-piercing Clan because although their combat ability was secondary, they were a unique talent, skilled in burrowing through mountains.

"Since you’ve all placed your bets, let me make one thing clear: if you lose, comply with your wager. If anyone goes back on their word, don’t blame me for getting angry."

"Hmmph, we will honor our bets, but we’re afraid your Excellency Feng Yang might lose too badly to produce enough treasures."

"Rest assured, you won’t have that chance."

Even before Li Feng finished speaking, flames enveloped him, and as his wings unfurled behind him, he pushed off with his toes, leaping into the air. Then Li Feng assumed a godlike posture, raising his arm high.

With a sweep of his arm, the flames, enveloped in a domineering aura, transformed into Sword Energy, sweeping directly towards the four chiliarchs of the demon clans before him.

"Hiss."

This demonic power.

Liu Shan and Yang Lin gasped, no weapon needed, to transform demonic power into Sword Intent, was strikingly similar to their swordsmanship.

One slash.

The chiliarchs who had dreamed of winning countless treasures from Li Feng instantly felt themselves locked on, a terrifying aura pressed down like Mount Tai.

Bloodline suppression.

They stared dumbfounded at the incoming Sword Energy. Even a phoenix fallen from grace is still a phoenix, not a chicken.

What’s more, the Vermilion Bird born to this clan was a being that had contended with the Candle Dragon Demon Emperor for a thousand years.

The next second.

They were hit by the exploding flames and Sword Energy. Two less robust demon chiliarchs were directly blown away, while a chiliarch from the Bear Clan, owing to his own bulk, wasn’t thrown but was overturned.

Only Jin Jia of the Mountain-piercing Clan fared the best, with his golden Scale Armor manifesting to block Li Feng’s strike.

"Oh."

Li Feng exclaimed, dispersing his wings to fall freely, then landed with a powerful punch to the ground.
