Chapter 61 61. EXPLOSION
Snapping his eyes open, Noah sat up, his body going into combat mode. Though when he saw the face of Augustus and a woman, he relaxed.
“It’s good to see that you are okay,” Augustus voice rang out, as Noah inspected the insides of where he was. Finding that they were currently inside the carriage, he relaxed even more.
“I’m sorry for troubling you,” Noah said as he inspected his body, to his surprise he was completely healed.
“You’ve been out for a day now,” Augustus voice rang out with a short laugh.
Noah eyes expanded in surprise, “A whole day!,” he blurted out.
“Yes, and surprisingly your body heals incredibly fast. Who exactly are you,” Augustus said with an eyebrow arced.
Noah could only smile in helplessness, which meant he wasn’t going to say anything.
Shaking his head, Augustus reassured, “I am not going to pressure you for answers, after all you have the ability to end us all,” he said.
Noah widened his eye again. “We saw and heard the explosion, what the heck was that, it was incredible,” Augustus remarked fascinated. π»πΌπ―πΉοΌπ¨πΏπ΄
Noah felt awkward, he couldn’t help but sigh when he thought of the multiple questions he would be asked by the others.
With that thought he recalled that James was the last person he saw before passing out.
Though before he could poke his head outside the window to check up on him, Noah felt an Intense gaze on his body, as he remembered that there was a lady in the carriage.
Focusing on her bandaged figure, he inspected her facial features.
The woman looked young, like Augustus, though he expected as much, she had long yellow hair, which complimented her oval face, which had delicate features, such as her thin eyebrow, which boosted her orange coloured eyes, and sumctsious pink lips.
She currently wore a purple robe, but Noah could see what resembled bandages around her arms and neck, but those bandages had a green glow which left him curious.
He couldn’t really see her full figure, because she sat very close to Augustus. Over all she looked stunning.
[Lisa]
[Tier: 2]
[Level: 47]
[Chances of death: 36%]
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” the delicate voice of Lily rang out, after Noah had spent a while staring at her.
Noah snapped out of momentary daze, “You too,” he replied as his gaze met hers, a slight smile appearing on his face.
The sound of someone clearing their throats rang out, as Noah’s gaze met Augustus, who narrowed his eyes at him.
Immediately standing up, Noah found that he was currently In a black robe, recalling that his previous attire had been badly damaged, Noah sighed from sadness, he had only worn it for a month or so.
Thinking about clothes, brought up a problem, ‘Who changed my clothes,’ Noah shouted inside his mind, as a bit of embarrassment tried to show on his face.
He thought of asking Augustus, but he quickly dismissed the thought, that would make the already awkward environment, even more awkward.
Bringing his hand forward, Noah opened the curtain. Shielding his eyes from the sunlight that ravaged his eyes, it took him a few seconds to get used to it, before he could comfortably look outside.
He saw the running figures, of James, Mona, Jessica, Jonas and Bern.
Searching for the figures of Heath and Henry, Noah realized that they weren’t present.
Shaking his head, while his gaze met, James was at the far end of the road due to his slow speed, but had a bright smile on his face, he seemed to understand what Noah was looking for, since he shook his head.
Heaving a deep sigh at the reality, Noah felt weird, for a second he had actually expected every one of them to return alive, or even unscathed, but that wasn’t the reality, they weren’t him, even he had returned badly Injured, and he could see some injures on the others too.
Smiling at James, while exchanging gaze’s with the rest, Noah returned into the carriage, then his eyes fell on Augustus.
Understanding what Noah meant with that gesture, his voice rang out, “I know, I know, their deaths were tragic, I myself aren’t really happy about that, but that doesn’t change the fact that most of us returned, which is very good , since this mission is far from over,” Augustus sighed while glancing at Lisa.
Pretending not to know, Noah faked a curious expression, while his voice rang out, “Uh…..Why is that?,”
Heaving a sigh once again he replied, “That would be, because I got to know that a tier 3 was present in the mansion. Honestly I thought you would have found out since you spent the longest in there.” He remarked.
Noah frowned, while he recalled the issue, he for one didn’t want to get caught again, because the expert might not let him live if they met again.
“Have you told the others,” Noah asked while rasing an eyebrow.
Watching Augustus nod his head slowly, Noah heaved a light sigh.
“Do you have a plan, or know the reason he had let us escape,” Noah’s voice rang out.
A moment of silence passed then Augustus voice rang out, “I never told you the experts gender,” Augustus said with a frown, as a dangerous glint lit up in his eyes.
Realizing his blunder too late, Noah’s brain came up with an excuse, but he decided to tell the truth, but stretch it a little bit, “He spoke to me with his mental waves. He had tried to offer me a position, in your family, but I refused,” Noah said.
Augustus’s eyes didn’t lose the dangerous glint, as his voice rang out, “I’m sure the offers were good, so why did you refuse it?,”
Noticing that this could turn into mistrust, Noah decided to reveal a bit of himself. “Why?, because I didn’t want to. And I’ve received better offers from other guilds,” Noah explained, while he brought out the box Melissa gave to him a month earlier.
“Don’t flatter yourself Augustus. Noble families are nice and all, but I doubt one of the three great guilds isn’t better,” Noah remarked with a snort, immediately returning the box to the inventory.
Augustus calmed down at that point, he had to be honest the box had actually surprised him, but eventually it didn’t, after all the incredible individual In front of him was definitely worth it.
The air turned weird, as Lisa was forced to speak. She had kept quiet all along due to the fact that Augustus hired Noah, but the turn of events changed that.
“What are we to do about the expert, I am sure he could catch up to us before we get to Crilion.” She said in a calm tone.
“Definitely. Did he mention anything about their plans during your time with him?,” Augustus said holding her hands.
“No he didn’t, all I heard was that he couldn’t hurt you due to the oath, but there was definitely another plan,” Lisa replied with a sigh.
Noah’s curiosity got piqued when he heard about the oath, “What oath?,” He eventually said.
“Everyone above the realm of tier 2, is required to take an oath if they wanted to get more resources or be trusted. The oath was created by the head of the house, my father whose tier even I don’t know. The oath bounds them to never hurt anyone who has the Holon blood, and to never release any information considered confidential.” Augustus explained while stroking his chin with his fingers.
“Can this oath be broken?,” Noah asked after a moment of thought.
“According to what I read. The oath can only be broken if my father releases the individual of the oath, or if someone stronger than my father removes it,” Augustus explained.
“What exactly do they lose, if they break the oath?,” Noah asked.
“Tier 3’s lose their core, I don’t know the rest,” Augustus stated.
Noah couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows, he had never heard anything about a core.
“What….-”
“Do you think there are any loopholes to the oath?,” Lisa said before Noah could complete his sentence.
“I don’t know,” Augustus said shaking his head.
The carriage remained silent for a few seconds. The requirements to get the oath broken seemed impossible from the tone which Augustus used to explain it.
“What if assassin’s were sent?,” Noah eventually asked.
“That what I expected at first, but it’s been a whole day, and we haven’t encountered any trouble yet,” Augustus sighed.
Another loud sigh resounded, then the entire carriage exploded.
