630 Because we want
“….Huh?”
Dilan was not sure what was going on but several minutes had passed since Nicolas had requested to join the Undying Group and things had gone south much more than expected.
Ben and Katja voiced out their wish to join the Undying Group as well, which was the final spark required for chaos to descend inside the emergency room.
Dilan was just standing there, his expression blank, while the Demi Gods of the two other factions were trying to figure out what was going on. They asked Ben, Katja, and Nicolas if they had gotten sick all of a sudden, or if Dilan had brainwashed them, but they didn’t say anything.
What the hell happened in the Gate, for the three Demi Gods, who were known as lone wolves to feel like joining the Undying Group? It was most astonishing that Nicolas was the first to voice out his opinion, without consulting Katja, or Ben, at that!
Nicolas was known for his few words, and he only spoke to Ben and Katja if he had to speak…or so everyone thought…
Nobody could really understand what was going on, but Wilhelm Star was overflowing with fury, while the members of the Undying Group had to give their best by putting on a poker face. Siegfried had the hardest time suppressing laughing out loud. He enjoyed the current situation, especially since a few members of the independent faction chose to join the Undying Group.
Siegfried knew that Dilan was the best and it looked like Ben, Katja and Nicolas had realized the same. With Dilan as their leader they could achieve great things!
As for Wilhelm and his poop-faction, Siegfried couldn’t care less. He just enjoyed the Demi God’s furious expression.
Wilhelm Star was trying to suppress his emotions but he pushed other Demi Gods of the independent faction aside and emerged in front of Ben’s bed.
“Didn’t you guys reject my invitation saying that you preferred freedom? Why…”
Ben looked at the disheveled Wilhelm Star, who was trying way too hard to put on a farce. It was obvious that he was in a fury, that his ill temper was showing, and that he was certainly not the right person to lead people into war. Wilhelm Star’s personality and goals were simply not aligned with the traits of a proper leader.
As for Dilan, it was different. The young man didn’t look like he desired to be the leader of the Undying Group, neither in the past nor right now. However, everyone trusted him, he was the strongest, and most importantly, his personality was good.
One didn’t have to be around Dilan for a long time to understand that his heart was at the right spot. He was a good man and someone, who was willing to go through the worst as long as that meant he could give them more time to grow.
That was exactly what Ben witnessed when he nearly killed Katja. Dilan would have died if not for his weird ability, but even with it, Dilan had gone through lots of pain for their sake.
That was remarkable, and more than enough reason for Ben and the others to join the Undying Group. It was a place where one wasn’t forced to do anything, a group where they could stay themselves without getting judged.
It was just comfortable and…nice.
“We just wanted to,” Ben thus answered the question Wilhelm Star couldn’t even finish asking in his fury.
There wasn’t a hidden agenda in Ben’s answer and neither in his desire to join the Undying Group. They just wanted to do it, so they asked if they could join. That was it.
The Demi Gods of the independent faction looked at Ben for a while before they turned to Dilan once again. It looked like their eyes were filled with question marks, but there was one thing they could tell.
Dilan was different from Wilhelm Star, in a pleasant way!
Dilan was probably even more astonished that Ben’s group of three wanted to join the Undying Group. He didn’t seem to have anticipated what they would do. Meanwhile, the other members of the Undying Group looked like they had expected their request.
It almost looked like it was the only logical thing one could do.
But what was the reason for their confidence? Why did they want Dilan to stay their Leader even though he was only a newly advanced Tier-4 Ascender? And…what happened in the Gate that Ben, Katja, and Nicolas decided to join the Undying Group, not even hours after their return at that!
Too many questions squirmed through the minds of most unaffiliated Demi Gods, and they were unwilling to leave the topic like this. However, instead of bluntly asking the others, they choose a different approach to the given situation!
They would observe Dilan, and find out what made him so special!
Dilan’s mind was still blank in the meantime. He only regained his senses when he saw that Wilhelm Star stormed out of the emergency room.
He saw that the Queen’s Image had patiently waited outside.
‘Finally some distraction!’
Dilan took a few strides toward the door which he opened with a faint and grateful smile on his lips.
She was still in her ethereal white form and attracted some attention.
“What is the Divinity doing here? She wouldn’t even come close to us when we approached her…” One of the independent Demi Gods asked out loud, his confusion clearly visible.
He noticed that no one was paying attention to him but that was not something the Demi God realized because his focus was also drawn away from the question he just asked.
“Why did you ask me to come here?” The Image asked, turning around to Dilan before she bowed lightly.
“How can I help you?”
