627 Charm
Standing in the middle of the large emergency room within the palace of the flying island, Dilan couldn’t help but sigh deeply.
Rory was not injured anymore. Her wounds had healed shortly before they stepped through the Claimed Gate. Their group returned back to the flying island and everyone was quickly brought to the emergency room.
Rory was questioned a lot, while Dilan was mostly ignored.
Only the 10 Demi Gods and Siegfried knew that Dilan was actually the strongest and that he knew the most about what happened inside the Gate.
As for everyone else, only some members of the Undying Group, including Lara, Marie and Clark could roughly gauge how strong Dilan was.
The others could only see a young, 22-year-old, Ascender. He was at the fourth Tier, wore clean clothes that were torn in some areas, but that was not noteworthy. There was no injury on his body and he was pushed around by the medics, who were mostly Ascenders themselves.
They were cursing when looking at certain injuries, which caused Dilan to smile weirdly.
“Should I just leave and hunt a few monster hordes in the Gate? It would be better if I were to become stronger rather than staying around…, right?” Dilan thought out loud and it looked like he had convinced himself after a minute or two as he turned around to the door of the emergency room when he froze in his steps.
“Well, that’s unlucky now…”
Marie and Lara stepped through the door and they rushed toward him and Siegfried. Dilan stood only half a meter away from Siegfried’s bed, where his nephew was sleeping soundly.
Siegfried was not injured, it was just that he collapsed because of the overexertion of his mana, origin ability, and blessing, followed by the destruction of his attack that he had collapsed. The backlash had been too strong, depriving him of his consciousness. Now he was just sleeping soundly because he had been treated by Dilan’s mana and the medics not long after.
“Are you fine?” Lara asked the moment she saw Dilan and his ugly smile.
“Don’t worry, Siegfried is perfectly fine. He is just a little bit tired. I think he was just too excited to fight next to us that he thought he was strong enough to whoop the butt of a few Demi Gods, but I’m not too su—…” Dilan explained, trying to make everything seem less dangerous than it had actually been when Marie interrupted him.
“Lara asked about your well-being, not Siegfried’s! We know that he is perfectly fine!” Marie hissed loudly, nearly shouting at Dilan.
She stared fiercely at him and was just holding back because his clothes were not drenched in blood and because he looked fine overall as well.
In fact, he and Rory were the only Ascenders who were actually fine, though the reason for that was quite obvious.
“I am doing fine as you can see…but how do you know that Siegfried is fine? Did you mark him like a dog?” Dilan ended up asking, his eyes widened. He stepped back when he saw that his sister was about to punch him and he accidentally bumped into a medic.
“Sorry,” Dilan just said, moving aside while looking at the medic, who glared at him before he started cursing.
Dilan looked at Marie, whose eyes followed the medic as well before her attention moved back to Dilan.
“They’re just a little bit tensed up because the vast majority of Demi Gods have been injured at the same time…I think…” She said, but she didn’t sound convinced herself. The medic’s behavior was too weird after all.
“Most people don’t know you. For them, you’re just one of many Tier-4 Ascenders, and you are in the medic’s way to help the most important people of the flying island,” Lara just said, holding a small wet towel in her hand. She cleaned her son’s face and smiled proudly at him.
“Okay, let’s forget about that. I’m still more interested in the dog mark, or the chip you planted in Siegfried’s neck!” Dilan changed the topic with a joke, a pretty bad one.
Both Lara and Marie glared at their brother who smiled innocently back at them.
“There is nothing like a chip, or whatever you’re talking about. It’s not that complicated, to be honest!” Lara said while continuing to wipe her son.
Instead of continuing to explain why they knew about Siegfried’s well-being, Marie was the one who stepped forward.
“We gave him a Tier-6 Charm which we bought from the Dungeon Shop after grinding for Dungeon Points for three years with everyone’s help. The Charm was not broken, which means that Siegfried was not on the verge of dying!” She explained with an expression that told Dilan one thing clearly.
‘Do you think we would leave Siegfried with you alone…without any protection?? Are we insane?!’
Somehow that gaze hurt Dilan but he understood the sister’s attention. Leaving Siegfried alone, no matter where was quite dangerous.
Procuring him a protection charm was intelligent and something Dilan could have thought of as well. However, what he didn’t expect his sisters and the others to have done was to collect Dungeon Points for a few years when they had been fighting for their survival.
Dilan looked at his sisters in a new light and he was quite relieved as well. They didn’t seem angry with him, or anything like that.
In fact, nobody seemed to be trying to lecture the Demi Gods about their sudden hunt in the Gate.
It looked like everyone had expected them to sustain injuries and that they would finish conquering the Gate no matter what.
The Gate was actually not conquered yet because they had only destroyed one Blood Orc settlement in the vast expanse of the Gate’s region
Nonetheless, they claimed the Gate to the flying island, which was a great way for Dilan to start his return to Milarn.
