Chapter 129: Wicked Mother-in-Law? Heh!
Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Wicked Mother-in-Law? Heh!
Early the next morning, Liu Qiang and three of his underlings drove his umpteenth-hand luxury car into the Yujing Bay District.
Last night, he had received a call that essentially offered him free money. Mr. Su had asked him for a favor and promised a highly lucrative service fee in return. Initially, Liu Qiang thought it would be a major undertaking, but to his surprise, it was remarkably simple. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
After listening to Mr. Su’s explanation, he had patted his chest and guaranteed, "Don’t worry, dealing with this kind of person is our specialty. I’ll bring my guys over tomorrow. You just need to tell her to play along with our act."
After ending that call, Su Yunzhou had phoned Liu Yiyi. Her voice had been laced with exhaustion. Upon hearing his voice, she had finally been unable to hold back her emotions and broke down. Su Yunzhou spent a long time softly comforting her until Yiyi calmed down. They discussed a few details before finally hanging up.
Now, having barely slept for several consecutive days, Liu Yiyi stared at the wall clock, her anxiety mounting by the minute. She was truly terrible at handling this kind of situation. To make matters worse, her mother had been so infuriated by the ordeal that she ended up hospitalized, leaving Yiyi completely overwhelmed.
She had already called the police. She had already argued until her throat was hoarse. But that damned old woman was as stubborn as a mule and completely impervious to reason. She was an absolute menace. The moment she opened her mouth, she demanded hundreds of thousands in compensation and insisted on having the bridal price and other past expenses refunded.
Every morning, she arrived right on time to block Yiyi’s door. The district’s security guards had tried to stop her a few times, but before they could even touch her, she would throw herself onto the ground, feigning injury. This left the property management completely helpless; they could only call Yiyi, pleading with her to resolve the issue so it wouldn’t disrupt the lives of the other residents.
Liu Yiyi was furious, but she was out of options. Her ex-mother-in-law’s entire strategy revolved around being utterly unreasonable and relentlessly vexatious. The old woman’s attitude was clear: if she didn’t get the money, she would make a scene until Yiyi couldn’t take it anymore. After all, she was just a jobless old woman who had all the time in the world to outlast her.
And sure enough, here she was again!
KNOCK KNOCK.
The sound of pounding on the door echoed through the apartment.
"Liu Yiyi! I know you’re in there, you little bitch! Don’t try to hide from me! You went behind my son’s back to fool around with wild men!
"The reason you can’t have kids is definitely because you ruined your body from sleeping around in the past..."
The insults hurled from the hallway were incredibly vile. Liu Yiyi’s face was deathly pale. She had gone out and argued with her yesterday, but it had been entirely useless. Now, all she could do was wait.
BEEP.
Right at that moment, the elevator doors slid open. A bald man with a face full of fierce, fleshy contours stepped out, flanked by three burly underlings. They immediately began checking the apartment numbers. One of them glared at the old woman, then turned and shouted over his shoulder, "Brother Qiang, found it! It’s right here!"
Liu Qiang swaggered over, putting on a show. Looking at the old woman blocking the door, he asked deliberately, "Do you know the owner of this apartment?"
The old woman didn’t answer, instead eyeing them warily.
Liu Qiang scoffed and continued, "If you don’t know them, then get the hell out of my way! Today, I absolutely have to collect a debt from the man of this house."
"Huh?!" The remark left the old woman slightly bewildered. However, she refrained from asking questions and merely stepped to the side.
A cold sneer spread across Liu Qiang’s face as he pounded heavily on the door. "Zhao Xiu, get the fuck out here!
"I told you I’d find you! No matter where the fuck you hide, I will always track you down!
"How dare you toy with my sister’s feelings and con her out of her money and body!"
BANG BANG BANG.
The security door rattled violently under his fists. Inside the apartment, Liu Yiyi actually let out a helpless smile. She thought to herself, "Yunzhou, I hope the people you found can really scare off that old woman."
She shouted toward the door, "You’ve got the wrong place! Zhao Xiu isn’t here!"
"Oh, really?" Liu Qiang roared. "That’s absolute fucking bullshit! My sources told me that idiot lives right here.
"Zhao Xiu, don’t think you can run! As long as you’re in Rongcheng, I have a hundred ways to end you!"
BANG BANG BANG.
"Open the door!" Liu Qiang bellowed.
Liu Yiyi continued to play along. "Stop knocking! I’m calling the police!"
"The police? Perfect!" Liu Qiang yelled furiously. "That bastard toyed with my sister’s feelings and scammed her out of her money! Even if the cops show up, he still has to fucking pay up..."
Hearing this, the old woman suddenly felt a wave of panic. She knew exactly what kind of person her son was, so she actually believed more than half of what the man was saying. Moreover, the timeline seemed to line up perfectly. A few days ago, her son had mentioned that he was dating a young woman. She urgently wanted to call him right now and find out what the hell was going on.
Just as she turned to leave, a voice drifted through the door.
"Zhao Xiu and I divorced a long time ago. Legally speaking, looking for me is completely pointless.
"Oh, right! That old woman standing by the door is Zhao Xiu’s mother. She should know where he is!"
"Hmm?"
Upon hearing this, Liu Qiang took two quick strides and blocked the old woman’s path of retreat. The group of men surrounded her menacingly. One of the younger thugs rolled up his sleeves, revealing a sleeve of dense tattoos.
"You damned old hag!" he spat. "Earlier, we asked if you knew them, and you stood there shaking your head, playing dumb! But it turns out you’re Zhao Xiu’s mother!
"Tell me, how should we settle this?"
The old woman felt a surge of fear, but she stubbornly maintained her unreasonable demeanor. "You people are just talking pure nonsense! I don’t know what you’re blabbering about! And I don’t know where Zhao Xiu is either!"
"Heh." Liu Qiang sneered. He first ordered the tattooed man to keep a close eye on the old woman, then pulled out his phone and started snapping photos of her.
"I’ve seen plenty of shameless hags like you. You want to play games with me, right?
"I’ll record a video of you and post a missing person notice online. Let’s see if your son’s bosses and coworkers can help me out. I refuse to believe I won’t be able to track him down."
Hearing this, the old woman visibly lost her nerve, though she continued to put up a brave front. "I’m just an old woman, but I’m not afraid of you! You better leave right now. If you don’t, I’m going to scream!"
"Hahaha!" Liu Qiang laughed ferociously. "Scream all you want! Sanpao, you stick to this old woman. Let’s see what kind of tricks she can pull."
Sanpao—the tattooed man from earlier—nodded. "Don’t worry, Brother Qiang. Dealing with this kind of wretched old woman is my specialty!"
Liu Qiang declared, "If we can’t find her son, we’ll just wait it out here today. Let’s see what this old hag can do about it."
Seeing that these local thugs were even more unreasonable and menacing than she was, Zhao Xiu’s mother was naturally frightened. However, the thought of her son made her realize she absolutely could not let them find him. Thus, the group of them fell into a tense stalemate in the hallway.
Less than two minutes later, the elevator doors opened again, and three security guards stepped out. Taking one look at the situation, the squad captain felt a massive headache coming on. Over the past two days, this old woman had already thoroughly exhausted his team. She was just too fucking unreasonable! And now, the newcomers were clearly underworld toughs.
Alas! Working this shift was turning out to be an absolute nightmare.
The squad captain stepped forward. "Hello. We’ve received complaints from the residents. Please resolve your personal issues elsewhere and do not disrupt the public order of the district."
Liu Qiang shrugged nonchalantly. "Did you hear that, boys? Someone complained!"
Sanpao wore a wicked grin. "Got it! We’ll keep our voices down!" At the same time, he lowered his voice and hissed, "You damned old hag, you better keep quiet too."
The moment he stepped closer, the old woman instantly deployed her tried-and-true ultimate move. Throwing herself onto the floor, she shrieked at the top of her lungs, "Oh my! He’s hitting me!
"This young man is beating up a poor old woman!
"So many people are watching! Is there no law anymore?! Is there no justice?!
"Ouch, ouch, it hurts so much..."
As she wailed, she kept a watchful eye on the men’s reactions. But seeing their thoroughly amused expressions, the old woman suddenly sensed that something was wrong.
Why were these people reacting so differently from the people she usually dealt with?
Very soon, she found out exactly where this feeling of wrongness came from!
