Chapter 145: Chapter 101: Beating Up the Green Tea on the Street

It was the same place where Jiang Mu had slain the fish demon last time.

As they neared Yanchun Tower, Zhang Daxie suddenly stopped in his tracks. His gaze was fixed on a lavish carriage not far away.

Jiang Mu followed his line of sight.

Beside the opulent carriage, a man and a woman were helping each other aboard.

The woman was slender with delicate features, dressed in an aquamarine gown.

The man was a dapper young master in fine silks, holding a fan with jade ribs. His every move carried the refined air of a noble scion.

As they boarded, the young master very naturally placed a hand on the woman’s slender waist, holding her small hand with his other. Their posture was intimate.

Seeing the dark, complicated expression on Zhang Daxie’s face, Jiang Mu was speechless.

’How could I run into such a cliché soap opera plot right on the street?’

But considering all the things Zhang Xiaokui had complained about before, a scene like this was bound to happen sooner or later.

"Forget it. No need to wait for tomorrow."

Jiang Mu patted Zhang Daxie’s stiff shoulder and said flatly,

"See clearly now? This woman is just stringing you along, using you as a backup plan—no, you probably don’t even count as that.

The moment she meets someone with better prospects, like this young master here, she latches right on. If she can’t find anyone better, maybe then she’ll reluctantly consider you as a last resort."

Zhang Daxie stared fixedly at them, his lips trembling, but he didn’t say a word.

The others had also realized what was happening by now. After all, Zhang Xiaokui had complained about it plenty at the tavern.

For a moment, everyone looked at Zhang Daxie with pity.

It was just too tragic.

A dignified Demon Slayer Envoy, being played for a fool by a manipulative girl.

"Fuck! You still want a promiscuous bitch like that?"

Reeking of alcohol, Xu Fu blurted out thoughtlessly, slinging an arm around Zhang Daxie’s shoulders.

"Daxie, listen to your big bro. I’ve seen plenty of women, and this kind really isn’t worthy of you. Stop being so obsessed! I’ll find you a good one later. With what you have to offer, you can have your pick."

His younger brother, Zhang Xiaokui, had a fiery temper. Seeing the young master touching his brother’s beloved’s hand and wrapping an arm around her waist, his anger flared.

Without a second thought, he lunged forward.

He grabbed the collar of the finely dressed young master, who had one foot on the carriage step but hadn’t fully entered, and yanked him down with tremendous force!

The man let out a yelp and tumbled to the ground.

"Ah!"

The woman in the carriage shrieked, her face paling in terror.

When she saw clearly that it was Zhang Xiaokui, her face went deathly white. "Xiao... Xiao Kui? What are you doing here?" she stammered.

Then she instinctively looked up.

She immediately spotted Zhang Daxie in the distance, and her face flushed red then turned pale, a canvas of embarrassment and guilt.

"Get down here!"

Zhang Xiaokui pointed at her and roared, reaching out to drag her down.

But halfway there, he remembered this was the woman his brother cherished, and he held back from using force.

The disoriented young master struggled to his feet, furious. "Who are you? How dare you be so rude to me!"

Zhang Xiaokui ignored him completely, glaring viciously at the woman in the carriage.

"I told you to get down! Do you hear me?!"

Terrified by his ferocious expression, the woman grew even more afraid to get down. She shrank into a corner of the carriage and stammered,

"Xiao Kui, you... you’ve misunderstood. Let me explain. Young Master Zhao was just giving me a ride..."

"Get down!"

Zhang Xiaokui’s roar was like a clap of thunder.

The woman’s face was chalk-white. She looked pleadingly toward Zhang Daxie, her eyes welling with tears.

Zhang Daxie turned his head away.

Completely ignored, Young Master Zhao’s anger flared, and he pointed at Zhang Xiaokui’s nose, cursing,

"You bastard! Do you have any idea who I am!?"

Zhang Xiaokui sneered and flashed his Demon-slaying Bureau Token. "The Demon-slaying Bureau is on official business! Uninvolved parties, get lost!"

Young Master Zhao stared at the Token, stunned.

’The Demon-slaying Bureau?’

His gaze swept over the group of burly men in plain clothes behind Zhang Xiaokui, each one radiating a potent Evil Qi. Only then did he realize he had picked a fight with the wrong people.

However, he couldn’t bear to lose face here in front of Yanchun Tower, with so many people watching.

So, he stuck his neck out and sneered,

"So what if you’re from the Demon-slaying Bureau? Does that mean you can just hit people whenever you want? Let me tell you, my uncle is the new Lord Prefect. Do you really think I’m afraid of you?"

"The Lord Prefect?"

Jiang Mu walked over and glanced at him.

He recalled how the previous Prefect had been dismissed and taken in for investigation a few days ago because of the incident with Madam Han, and a new one had been appointed.

’Looks like they’re cut from the same cloth.’

He paid no more attention to the spoiled brat who was all bark and no bite. He walked straight to the carriage and looked at the woman cowering inside, saying calmly,

"Tomorrow, return every gift Zhang Daxie gave you, untouched.

From now on, you go your way, and he’ll go his. You’ll owe each other nothing. Don’t bother him again.

Understand?"

The woman looked at Jiang Mu, then at the silent Zhang Daxie in the distance.

Perhaps Jiang Mu’s calm tone gave her the false impression that he was easy to reason with. Or perhaps she felt that with Young Master Zhao present, these people wouldn’t dare do anything to her.

A mix of shame and anger suddenly gave her a surge of confidence. She jutted out her chin and said,

"On what grounds? I didn’t lie to him! He gave me those things willingly; I never forced him! Why should I have to give them back?"

Jiang Mu was so angry he laughed.

He looked up and studied the woman intently.

"You didn’t lie to him? So, you’re willing to be his wife, then?"

The woman’s eyes darted around.

"I... I haven’t decided yet. Marriage is a serious matter. How can I just decide so casually? I have to evaluate my options, don’t I?"

"Then why did you accept all those expensive gifts?"
