Chapter 387 A Signal in the Sky, A Retreat in Shame
Chapter 387 A Signal in the Sky, A Retreat in Shame
The arrival of reinforcements finally gave the battered forces of the Desolate Heaven Empire a chance to retaliate.
The Li Clan.
The Zhao Clan.
And the many sects and clans that had nearly been torn apart by the Demonic Cultivators’ sudden assault.
Fresh troops surged forward, full Qi and stamina intact. With their arrival, those already fighting could finally breathe.
Of course, this wasn’t a complete reversal, nor was it a counterattack.
The Desolate Heaven Empire still had to fight Demonic Beasts and Demonic Cultivators at the same time.
The reinforcements merely ensured that the Demonic Cultivators no longer held an overwhelming advantage.
This was nothing like the original plan.
The Reserve Units were meant to ambush the Demonic Cultivators when they revealed themselves.
That plan had already failed.
The Demonic Cultivators had slipped past detection.
They had infiltrated the army itself.
They had struck first.
It was now painfully clear-their plans had been leaked.
Still, with the Reserve Units entering the battlefield at full strength, the Empire managed to stabilize the situation.
Once again, the battlefield sank into a tense, grinding stalemate.
Except for one place.
On Bai Zihan’s side, the pressure shifted abruptly.
Five Void Refinement Realm Elders descended from the sky, landing beside him with heavy steps that cracked the earth beneath their feet.
Their auras surged outward-steady, immense.
“Young Master,” one of them asked, unable to hide the concern in his voice,
“Are you alright?”
Bai Zihan exhaled slowly and nodded.
“I’m fine!”
The Elders exchanged glances.
They knew.
Everyone on this flank knew.
The reason the Bai Clan had suffered so few casualties-despite being targeted by a larger concentration of Demonic Cultivators-was standing right in front of them.
Bai Zihan had single-handedly held back ten Void Refinement Realm Demonic Cultivators.
Ten.
If even half of them had slipped past him, the Bai Clan’s losses would have rivaled those of the Li and Zhao Clans.
Yet here they were.
Although Bai Zihan hadn’t killed any of them, neither had he been pushed into desperation.
In fact it was the Demonic Cultivators who bore deep wounds from his attacks.
Even without reinforcements, Bai Zihan likely wouldn’t have fallen.
And now-
With five Void Refinement Realm Elders backing him-
The Demonic Cultivators could only dream of killing him.
On the opposite side, the Demonic Cultivators cursed openly.
“Damn it…!”
“This wasn’t how it was supposed to go!”
Several Demonic Elders spat blood, their eyes burning with hatred as they
glanced toward the Bai Clan’s formation.
Not only had their infiltration plan failed-
The group sent specifically to crush the Bai Clan had failed as well.
That was the greatest failure.
Their formations were already destabilizing.
And now-the Bai Clan Elders stepped forward.
“Young Master,” one Elder said calmly, his gaze locked onto the Demonic
Cultivators,
“We will support you.”
“Alright!”
Bai Zihan agreed. He no longer wanted to waste time dealing with these Demonic Cultivators-he wanted to return to farming System Points.
The moment Bai Zihan agreed, the battlefield around him shifted.
Slash! Slash!
Bai Zihan moved first.
His figure blurred as his blade tore through demonic qi, each strike sharp,
precise, merciless.
The sword carved open space itself, forcing the Demonic Cultivators to retreat
step by step.
Behind him, the five Void Refinement Realm Elders advanced in perfect
coordination.
Boom!
An Elder’s palm strike crushed a Demonic Cultivator’s chest, shattering bones
and sending the body flying.
Another Elder’s sword pierced through layers of demonic qi, pinning a shrieking enemy to the ground before finishing him with a cold thrust. Despite still having the numerical advantage, the Demonic Cultivators were
being pushed back.
They could feel it.
The pressure.
The imbalance.
At the center of it all was Bai Zihan.
Every swing of his sword created openings-large, undeniable openings.
And the Bai Elders did not waste a single one.
Whenever Bai Zihan forced an enemy to stumble, stagger, or retreat-
An Elder struck.
Whenever Bai Zihan shattered their defense-
An Elder followed through.
Yet-they weren’t going to go down easily.
“Hold formation!”
“Defensive stance!”
They refused to be killed easily.
Layers of Demonic Qi overlapped, reinforcing one another.
They weren’t advancing anymore but they weren’t collapsing either.
For a moment-
The clash entered a brutal deadlock.
And then-
BOOOOM!!
The sky exploded with a thunderous detonation.
Dark light burst open above the battlefield, forming a massive demonic sigil
that blotted out the clouds for a heartbeat.
Demonic Cultivators pupils shrank.
“…The signal.”
“Retreat!”
No hesitation followed.
The formation shifted instantly-not toward attack, but withdrawal.
Even the ten Void Refinement Realm Demonic Elders fighting Bai Zihan turned
without a word, forcefully disengaging as they retreated toward the rear. Now that the signal to retreat has been given, they no longer what to stay with
this monster.
But Bai Zihan’s eyes flashed coldly.
“You think you can just leave?”
He moved.
Faster than before.
“Nine Shadows Flowing Light Sword!”
One Demonic Elder barely managed to turn-
SLASH!
His head flew into the air, Demonic Qi dispersing violently as his body
collapsed.
He wasn’t done, Bai Zihan appeared before another Elder in a blur.
The blade pierced straight through the Demonic Elder’s throat, annihilating his
core in an instant.
Two Void Refinement Realm Demonic Elders fell before they could retreat.
The remaining Demonic Cultivators didn’t stop.
It seemed they had decided to abandon those who couldn’t keep up.
They didn’t even bother to look back, and because of that, they were able to
withdraw safely while Bai Zihan was focused on killing those two Demonic
Elders. One might think the same would happen elsewhere-that the Demonic Cultivators would suffer heavy losses during their retreat. However, the truth couldn’t be further from that.
They were able to retreat relatively safely because the Desolate Heaven
Empire’s forces couldn’t move freely from their positions.
They still had to deal with the Demonic Beasts they were already fighting.
Because of this, the Demonic Cultivators managed to withdraw with minimal losses across most of the battlefield-
Except for the Bai Clan’s area.
There, the Demonic Beasts had almost been completely dealt with, and with
reinforcements present, the Bai Clan was able to inflict devastating casualties on the retreating Demonic Cultivators.
But the fight didn’t end just because the Demonic Cultivators retreated.
There were still Demonic Beasts to worry about.
However, now with the reinforcements, the number of human cultivators far exceeded that of the Demonic Beasts.
The Demonic Beasts began to suffer heavily.
Bai Zihan once again went berserk, charging forward as he began mowing down Grade-9 Demonic Beasts one after another.
Roars echoed across the battlefield as massive bodies collapsed.
In the end, even the Demonic Beasts chose to retreat after sustaining
unbearable losses.
Once again, it was a complete victory for the Desolate Heaven Empire.
