Triple X System
Chapter 484: Celestial Canyon
The morning sun had barely crested the jagged eastern peaks of the Lumia Kingdom when Kyle, Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua stood once more in the subterranean archives deep beneath the keep.
The air in the stone vault was cold, damp, and quiet, broken only by the rhythmic hum of the blue ley-line conduits running along the walls. King Troy and Princess Lumia stood near the entrance archway, flanked by four elite royal guards dressed in heavy, pristine iron armor. No grand send-off had been announced to the public; the transition was kept strictly confidential to ensure the security of the kingdom’s newly established portal network.
"The guards at the lower vault will remain on twenty-four-hour watch," King Troy said, his deep voice echoing off the ancient stone. He stepped forward, offering Kyle a firm, iron-clad nod. "Only Lumia and myself hold the physical tokens required to open the outer archive doors from this side. No one enters or leaves this chamber without our direct authority."
"Keep the ley-line draw steady," Kyle advised, adjusting his dark coat as his slitted eyes fixed on the empty air in the center of the room. "The portal doesn’t siphon power from your city’s grid—it anchors to the Spire Key in my core—but if your subterranean lines fluctuate too wildly, it could cause minor spatial noise on this end."
"I’ve personally taken over the monitoring arrays at the Iron Works," Princess Lumia assured him, stepping up beside her father, her pale blue eyes bright with quiet resolve. "The corruption is purged, and the new commanders are already in position. We will hold your anchor, Kyle. May the light of the higher realms guide your path."
Kyle didn’t offer a lengthy speech. He simply raised his right gauntlet.
A sharp, brilliant pulse of violet and pale-blue spatial light erupted from his palm. The air in the center of the vault folded inward like liquid glass, expanding into a stable, ten-foot-tall archway of swirling golden and violet energy.
"Let’s move," Kyle commanded softly.
Yua was the first to leap through, her red eyes gleaming with manic anticipation as her figure blurred into the swirling light. Falcon followed with a light, confident stride, her four dark brown tails giving a relaxed swish as she crossed the threshold. Seraphina offered a polite, royal bow to King Troy and Princess Lumia before turning her back on the lower realm, stepping through with her ocean trident gripped firmly in her right hand.
Kyle paused at the edge of the swirling gateway, looking back over his shoulder one last time. "Keep the kingdom safe, Troy."
"Until you return, Demon Knight," King Troy answered, saluting with his gauntleted fist against his chest.
Kyle turned and stepped into the portal.
The transition through the master gateway was instantaneous.
In a fraction of a heartbeat, the damp, claustrophobic stone walls of the Lumia Keep archives vanished, replaced by the grand, marble-paved plaza of the Spire’s First Tier. The spherical Astral Warden construct still floated above the central compass star, its silver rings spinning silently, casting a soft blue glow across the pristine floor.
Without pausing, Kyle led the team straight toward the elevated crystal platform in the center of the plaza.
As his boots stepped onto the glowing blue tiles, the central eye of the Warden construct flared with a brilliant, welcoming beam of pale-blue light. A resonant voice—sounding like polished crystal grinding against glass—echoed directly in their minds, welcoming Kyle back and confirming the destination.
"Ascend to Tier 2," Kyle commanded, his voice flat and unyielding.
The translucent crystal platform beneath their boots flared with an intense, blinding flash of white and turquoise light. The space around them didn’t tear—it accelerated upward at a speed that blurred the surrounding marble pillars into long, glowing streaks of pure light.
For three seconds, gravity vanished entirely, leaving them suspended in mid-air inside a capsule of compressed spatial energy. Then, with a soft, heavy thud, weight restored itself to their limbs, and the blinding white light dissolved.
The air that hit their lungs was entirely different from anything they had experienced in the lower realms or the first tier.
It was crisp, thin, and biting cold, saturated with a razor-sharp wind that smelled of wild thunder, ozone, and wet copper. The ambient mana here wasn’t merely dense—it was active, crackling through the air in faint, visible wisps of turquoise electricity that hissed as they brushed against their clothes.
When the blinding transition light fully dispersed, Kyle and his team found themselves standing on a narrow, two-hundred-foot-wide stone bridge carved from dark, iridescent slate.
The bridge stretched endlessly forward, spanning a gargantuan, bottomless chasm that carved through a vast desert of floating, crimson-tinted mesa mountains. Below the bridge lay a sea of churning, violet clouds laced with constant, silent flashes of turquoise lightning. Above them, instead of a ceiling or a starry night sky, hung a massive, shattered ring of pale-gold celestial stone, slowly rotating against a backdrop of deep indigo twilight.
"Whoa..." Falcon breathed, her golden eyes widening as she stepped toward the edge of the dark slate bridge.
The howling wind caught her dark brown hair, whipping it wildly across her face. Her four dark brown tails flared instantly, their tips igniting with small, protective sparks of endothermic green poison fire to ward off the biting cold. "The gravity in this place... it feels like walking through deep mud."
"It’s not just gravity," Seraphina said, her voice strained as she planted the butt of her ocean trident against the slate floor.
Her royal blue hair whipped around her face as a thin veil of blue mist automatically flared around her boots to stabilize her stance. "The elemental purity in Tier Two is volatile. Look at the wind—it’s saturated with raw, unrefined lightning mana. If you don’t coat your meridians with your own aura, the air itself will continuously shock your skin."
Yua walked right to the edge of the stone precipice, looking down into the sea of violet clouds with a feral, wicked grin. "Falling down there looks like a one-way ticket to getting turned into ash. I love it." She flexed her pale hands, razor-thin ribbons of blood-mana wrapping around her fingers to ground her stance. "So where’s the welcome party, Kyle?"
Kyle stood at the front of the formation, his dark coat sweeping behind his boots like a raven’s wing.
His slitted dark eyes tracked the straight, narrow path of the slate bridge as it stretched forward toward a massive, distant mesa mountain carved into the shape of a sleeping titan’s skull. He could feel the new, deep resonance of his Demon Knight core humming effortlessly inside his chest, easily absorbing the atmospheric pressure and converting the ambient lightning noise into pure, stabilized dark mana.
He closed his eyes for a brief beat, letting his senses expand across the expanse. The air was thick with static pressure, and the slate beneath their feet vibrated with hidden weight.
’Three hundred yards out,’ Kyle evaluated internally, tracking the shifts in the mountain walls ahead. ’A high-density pressure zone. The rock faces aren’t empty.’
Kyle raised his right gauntlet slightly, signaling for the team to halt. "We have company ahead. They’re embedded in the mesa walls."
"What kind of creatures?" Falcon asked, her eyes narrowing as she peered into the howling turquoise mist.
"Gargoyles," Kyle replied, his voice calm, flat, and absolute. "Forged from celestial slate and infused with the tier’s raw lightning mana. They don’t have blood, Yua, so don’t expect your blood-mana to drain them from the inside."
Yua cracked her knuckles, her ivory fangs bared in a sinister smirk. "They don’t need blood for me to smash ’em into powder, boss."
"Seraphina," Kyle turned his head toward the water wielder. "Your ocean domain will conduct the ambient lightning if you expand it too far. Keep your water condensed into high-pressure blades instead of wide shields."
"Understood," Seraphina nodded sharply, her blue eyes sharpening as she adjusted her grip on her trident, condensing her mist into three concentrated, liquid ribbons orbiting her shoulders.
"Falcon, use your green fire to frost-crack their slate armor," Kyle continued, stepping forward. "Extreme temperature drops will render their lightning-forged stone brittle. When their armor cracks, Yua shatters their core."
"Got it," Falcon smirked, her four tails whipping behind her, the endothermic green flames expanding until they sucked the ambient heat out of a ten-foot radius around her.
"And you?" Yua asked, eyeing Kyle’s dark, calm posture.
"I’m opening the path," Kyle said simply.
He didn’t draw his dark shadow blade yet. Instead, he took a single step forward, executing an instantaneous spatial shift.
His figure vanished into a trail of dark, silent smoke, reappearing two hundred yards down the slate bridge, right in the center of the high-pressure zone.
The moment Kyle’s boots touched the slate floor, the surrounding atmosphere reacted.
The sleeping mesa mountain carved like a titan’s skull let out a deep, stony rumble that shook the entire bridge. High above on the vertical cliff faces, dozens of massive, dark slate gargoyles—each fifteen feet tall, with razor-sharp stone wings and glowing turquoise crystal eyes—unclasped their claws from the rock.
Thick arcs of turquoise lightning erupted from their stone chests, illuminating the howling abyss as a horde of forty celestial gargoyles dropped from the cliffs, diving straight toward Kyle like a swarm of thunderous meteors!
"Intruders on the slate!" a roaring, grinding sound echoed from the lead gargoyle, its stone mouth opening to unleash a concentrated beam of pressurized lightning.
Kyle stood motionless in the center of the narrow bridge, his dark coat whipping in the storm, his slitted dark eyes reflecting the brilliant turquoise flash of the incoming beam.
He didn’t flinch. He didn’t duck.
His pitch-black demon gauntlet flared with a deep, midnight-black light as he raised his left hand, opening his iron palm directly toward the descending storm of stone and thunder.
"Tier Two," Kyle whispered coldly, his voice easily cutting through the howling gale. "Show me what you’ve got."
With a single, effortless flex of his Demon Knight core, a massive, thirty-foot wall of pure, anti-elemental void energy erupted from his gauntlet, setting the stage for their first brutal battle inside the True Spire.
